Military screws over one of my classmates
I get your point Camoor, but I don't see what the Romans have to do with it, especially when it's a common thing for alot of people in government jobs to do the same thing. For example my mom's a teacher and she almost always votes democrats, at least at the local levels, because they typically offer more support and money for her profession. When people step in that booth they don't think "Hey if I vote for the Republicans because they give me a big paycheck then we'll be just like the Romans."

Believe it or not I don't usually sisagree with what you say, but you always frame things in the context of anceint history. Lots of us know history, but most of us don't try and place the context of our arguments from examples that occured thousands of years ago. In short, my point is that just because there are vague similarites doesn't mean we are becoming a "militaristic empire" as you pointed out.
Well, I live near DC so maybe all those Greco-Roman temples and Egyptian Needles are clouding my judgement

Seriously though, when I really think about it, the similarities between the United States and the Roman Empire are just mind-blowingly amazing considering the different technologies available to both civilizations. I do admit I probably over-play it.

The Roman Empire started out as a Republic with a Senate and their own form of "Manifest Destiny". They had problems with Egypt and food, we have problems with the Mid East and Oil. They liked Gladiators and Chariot Races, we like Football and Nascar (OK that last point stretches it  )

I just think we can learn so much by not making the same mistakes that the Romans did, IMO we should continually strive to make government a tool of the people, not the other way around.

hey while I have a history buff here. I remember this from school but can't remember the name. What was the longest lasting nation? if memory serves me right it got to be 5000 years old and I believe was located near Japan.

97% of CTL's posts boil down to:

"I'm in the military. I'm a troop, therefore if you don't agree with me, you don't support the troops! Oh, and I am really smart too. I'm smarter then everyone on this board!"
1. I note you didn't have a responce to my comment.

2. 97% of my posts don't boil down to that. That you feel uncomforable having to respond to my superior points and arguments....well thats not my problem.

3. There have been a number over very intelligent and humerous posts which oppose my position. That you have not made such a post is not my problem.

4. That I have a personal experience which is something other that "I am 18 and worried about the draft and the war in Iraq" does not discredit my opinion.

5. That all you have left is to attack me personally based on my credentials is a true testament to your ability to continue to be able to respond to me.

6. I am sure that I am not smarter than everyone here. But I am sure unlike most people on this forum I am capable of looking at the big picture and not stick my head in the sand and only worry about myself, which based on many people's posting in this forum is all they care about.

What is your point? China is the oldest nation in existence, but the totalitarian regime brutally murders anyone who expresses free speech or free will in any form.

Do you want the US to be more like China?

No I don't want the US to be like China who would? I was just curious as to which nation this was and by the way it is not China. It was in the area of Japan and began with a J. I was just curious because it was an interesting culture and I wanted to read more about it. I think the nation fell apart around 1500 AD
I swear this is the only place a simple question could turn into me wanting us to be more like China
You could always leave, no one is making you come here.

But Quack did... ](*,) a few too many times.

Well, maybe we could be a little more like China, maybe in the food department.

There is a reason a high percentage of military people are Republican. We usually get bigger pay raises with a Rep. Reagan had some outrageously high raises during his tenure. I was a Democrat before I came in but I transferred over as well
God forbid you should think about social issues like Gay marriage, abortion and censorship for a few examples. I guess only your wage matters right?
I personally know of someone in the Military who is a Democrat and keeps their principles.
Madcow Syndrome strikes again right?
Actually I believe Bush's stance on gay marriage is overly heavy handed. I'm all for people living their own lives. But I hate how democrats fund the military and I'm not just talking wages i mean equipment as well. I would be dumb not to vote the way that makes my life the easiest
I wouldnt be on hating democratic funding of the military. It was Clinton's army that went into Afghanistan. Bush's budget had not effected the military by the time we went to war. So all that tech that allowed us to "win" so easily was all because of a democrat's decisions.

We did it in spite of the budget Clinton gave us not because. An area that got badly underfunded was buildings. The security force headquarters here looks like a crack house it is one of the worst buildings I have ever seen and like 300 people work there. And even though the Tech helps us it is still up to the people to execute properly.
