I had a about $302 in the savings account last month and withdrew $60 within the couple of weeks and BOA charged me $3. Anyone know how much is usually required for savings usually?

Ok, then what the OP should do is open an ING(or some other online place) bank account.
Get a $25 signup bonus, no minimums, no fees. And then about 3.5%ish interest.

ING only has ATM access with Electric Orange account which requires $50k to get 3%-ish apy.

I'd go for HSBC direct instead. ATM card and no min balance to hit 3.5% apy.

I guess it depends on how much access you need to your savings.
I don't use my savings account like a checking, so ING works for me.

I have electric orange as well - so if i really wanted I can go online and throw money from savings to checking with no hassle then go to an ATM if i was strapped for whatever reason.

I guess if the OP wants to keep a low balance the interest rate probably wouldn't matter at all.

It sounds like the OP doesn't have a checking account and only has a savings linked to an ATM card. Many banks offer no min checking accounts so that might be a route to take to avoid fees.

Thats true. The $6 fee is 4 times what he would've made in interest leaving 300$ in there for a year, after all :)

For $3, I would (and have) call in to complain. I would keep the conversation civil and polite, but mention that you would like to keep your account with the bank if they could help you out with the fee charged last month (plead ignorance, you weren't sure if the $300 balance applied to the daily minimum or month-end....). Generally speaking, first-line call reps are authorized to credit back a small fees charged to a customer's account.

I would then begin taking steps to switch banks. I personally prefer ING, but banks mentioned by the other posts would also work.

One last thing, if you don't want to use an online bank, I would then recommend a local credit union.

Credit unions can be good, i have both my checking and savings with a local one here. I even get my dental insurance for practically nothing through them.
