MLB 10: The Show - March 2, 2010 - Full Online Season Leagues and Online Priority!
Right. I didnt notice that this wildcpac was the same clown that bashes everything related to Boston sports. I've never seen a kid with such a massive hard-on for us.

I've lived in Mass my whole life and while I dont like New York sports teams, I do enjoy the rivalry and the interest it creates in the games played between us.

The name calling and insults are just childish though.
Haha, seriously. Ah, man, my last post wore me out. I feel like I typed a fucking thesis on MLB 09, lol. Hopefully nobody sees it as trolling. I just want this year's game to be better...and I can't turn a blind eye to things that shouldn't be acceptable. Just wish they'd hurry up and release the damn demo.
*sigh* I was hoping this wouldn't be necessary, but since only one person can be right, here we go.

I'm putting this in spoilers because I know a lot of people are tired of this discussion. I'm just surprised some people are still unaware of the issues. Although, it's not surprising it's the same person who thinks the "Roid Sox" were the only team to use steroids (can't believe I'm defending Boston to put down a fellow Yankee fan...a cold day in hell, indeed).

MLB 09's Shortcomings
When the game shipped, it featured numerous bugs both online and offline.
1. Lag was horrible in online games, making many of them near unplayable
2. There was a massive glitch when playing RTTS games that caused the game to crash and sent you back to the XMB. It would also corrupt save files, forcing many to have to redo their RTTS careers.
3. The Cubs were scheduled as having all night games.
4. CPU lineups were drastically screwed up. The game did things like have David Ortiz and Todd Helton leading off. And even when you set CPU roster control to ON (meaning you control their rosters), the lineups only stuck until the game started...at which point they would revert to whatever the CPU wanted.
5. When loading saved roster files, there was some kind of glitch that swapped player's career stats. A-Rod would have Mark Teixeira's career stats, Tex would have Damon's. It was just a mess.
6. When doing an online league, any player who was listed on the "free agents" list in the default roster could not be used. He could be drafted, but the game would put him on your AAA squad, which you did not have access to. This caused some people to have less than 25 players.
7. When doing an online fantasy draft, the game would crash during the last 5 rounds of the draft and autocomplete the draft for you. This happened every single time. For our particular draft, the game decided to get stuck in round 23, and it took us 3-4 days for the draft to complete. Basically, it didn't finish until the person whose turn it was signed in and checked their draft board. But the player could also not make the choice himself because the game thought the draft was over and showed that you had -124:34 to make your selection. You just had to sign in to let the game autodraft for you. We had to do this for every person for 2 full rounds.

On 4/9/09, Sony announced a patch to fix these issues. This is from their official statement:
This patch fixed SOME of the problems, but created new ones. Online play was still laggy, career stats were still screwed up beyond belief, RTTS was still being worked on (but they did give that "great" workaround!) and the patch now created a problem for Franchise seasons that had already been started.

This happened because when they were fixing the Cubs "all night games" problem, they somehow added an extra game, and it crashed the system. So, every time people would reach that point in the schedule (playing as one of the two teams involved), their franchise would crash. Their only fix was to start over.

A second patch was released on 4/27/09. They were finally able to fix the RTTS crashing problem (or were they? see link:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?message.uid=42140179), but not much else. Most of the things they claimed to have fixed still didn't work right, and in fact, they ONCE AGAIN created a new problem.

In "fixing" Franchise mode and trying to prevent people's systems from crashing, they had now somehow lost the in-game replay cutscenes (including game highlights) and the ability to record videos was no longer functional. As a result, a third patch was released on 5/19/09. This patch was accompanied with a tiny note from Sony stating "Description: Replay/Highlight issue addressed."

The rest of the bugs that were never conquered were left in the game. CPU lineups never stuck properly, online lag was never corrected, and career stats from saved roster files were still screwed up.

There were other smaller bugs as well, but these were the ones that affected me and made me take notice. I'm sorry, but if you don't think that list of issues and the fact that three patches were needed is enough to lose A LITTLE faith in this series, then I don't know what to tell you. I don't like it when games use patches as a crutch for sloppy programming, and then even when they do address an issue, it creates other problems.

And this doesn't even begin to address any actual gameplay preferences which can be a matter of opinion. This is just sloppy programming. All you have to do is Google "MLB 09 patch" to see all the upset customers. But yeah, you won't see that in a game review. This is why I said "Unless the game proves to have corrected last year's shortcomings, it won't be worth more than $40." This is exactly what I meant.

1. I use the term Roid Sox in sarcasm and in jest. Anybody who takes it serious should get off the net.

2. I can see where you are coming from in terms of the glitches. I noticed that some players had their stats flip flopped. It wasn't that big of a deal to me. I did a season mode of the Dodgers and RTTS for about 7 seasons. I guess I was lucky because I never dealt with anything "game breaking" and super glitchy.

3. I like to think that the previous years glitches have been fixed for this season since 10 is just an updated port with enhancements of 09.

Understandable. But I don't think "some people can play the game fine" is the marketing angle Sony should be going for, haha.

You know what happens with assumptions, lol. Really though, the fact that 09 had SO MANY problems makes me worry that SCEA is growing complacent. It's happened with other companies before. I'm not sentencing to death or anything, haha. This year, I'm just making them earn my trust. :)

They're complacent with the pitching animations. They haven't improved them at all since the first game in 2006.

Well, right now, seams that it is 50/50 based on the responses for whether the league should be original teams or fantasy picks. I'm good for either one. I thought about making two leagues, one for each system, but someone else would definately have to step up and run one of them because I don't think that I'll be able to run two leagues. Any thoughts or should we make an official vote and run one CAG league only?

One league is tough enough, I say we vote and take the majority. I vote for fantasy team, but set the league so that injuries are off, or that rosters don't update with injuries in real life. We had a problem with that last year.

I don't really have much interest in joining a league, but I would want a fantasy draft. That way people can play as their favorite teams without being at a disadvantage.

Would it work doing a fantasy draft but set the CPU to autodraft for the teams? That way the stats 'should' be well rounded and no one would be screwed if someone purposely picks bad players so the next in line gets studs, or simply people drop mid draft?

There's no way I would want to let the CPU draft for every team. That kinda defeats the purpose of creating your own team (and I'm sorry..it caters to people who know nothing about baseball). But who the hell would PURPOSELY pick bad players? lol. That's just dumb. Your second point was a good one though, but I can tell you, if you drop mid-draft (or simply choose not to show up

Not to mention that I wouldn't trust the CPU to actually make good picks. Last year, after our draft crashed, some teams got autodrafted players they couldn't use (ie. the free agents), or their roster wasn't balanced (ie. 3 catchers and no 2nd baseman). I'd feel much more comfortable shaping my team myself, and I think Wpark hit the nail on the head. Fantasy draft with no injuries is the most fair to all.

Ok, how would it work tho? Im assuming 12+ player league? What were you thinking of trying to have?

Also is there some agreeable time when a draft could take place, or are you able to order your picks and have the cpu do it for you if unable to attend?

Who was the one putting this together/are we able to sign up anytime soon?

I think Josh is the one putting it together this year. I have no idea when I'm getting the game, so I'm just tentatively penciling myself in as "participating", haha. If it works like it did last year, you can set a queue for your picks. The only problem with that is, you can't tell the game "If you're able to get me a top 3rd baseman, don't draft another one".

So, if you put A-Rod and Evan Longoria as your #1 and #2, hoping to get one of the two, if nobody picks them (not likely...but this is just an example), the game would pick both of them for you. BUT if you space them out...like #1 and #6, you could get neither of them. Autodraft is just a quirky thing as there's not really a perfect science to it. The best thing they could implement is to allow you to draft from your PC (ala Madden), to maybe make it a little more convenient for people.

As for setting a time, I think we're still just taking votes on if people even want to do a fantasy draft, as opposed to just using real rosters. I'm sure all the details will come once things get hammered out.

If I'm gonna run the league, I will want to get everything decided (fantasy/set teams) before an official sign up probably, unless there are those who will play in it no matter what. Personally, I would like to have all 30 teams represented but that is probably unlikely considering there would be several people droping out. I'm thinking that 16-20 would be ideal. Any thoughts?
My only thing against fantasy draft is that it is probably just about inpossible for everyone to get together at one time to pick. So that would put some at a disadvantage since they are leaving it up to the CPU. If we could agree to a set time, I'm all for that though.
Also, to the guy who said that we should have real player injuries off, I'm all for that but injuries in the video game, I can go either way but would listen to the crowd.

Haha, you've got that youthful ambition. I don't think a full team league has ever succeeded in the history of life, lol. The biggest thing to consider is how many games you're going to be asking people to play...and how long you expect the season to last (which leads to "how many games per week?")

You can set the league up for each team to play each other once, but generally, people like to play people in their division a couple times (although in year's past you could only have 2 divisions...so we did AL and NL. This year, you might be able to actually have normal divisions).

So, even if you had 12 teams, that's 6 per division. And if you played everyone in your division twice, that would be 10 games....plus everyone in the other division once, that's 6 games...so you'd have a 16 game season. I think last year we aimed for a 27 game season, but failed miserably. There's just a lot of things to consider, and you may need to see how things are actually set up in the game before making any concrete decisions. But it's always good to brainstorm and get opinions.
n8, didn't you say you were able to get this for like $40? do tell...
I was able to get it for that after the thall shall not be named on CAG triple deal. I think N8 was hoping to get it for 40 after the gamestop dead deal of pre order 1 game, get the second for 20 percent off, the third for 33 percent off. Gamestop killed the deal.
n8, didn't you say you were able to get this for like $40? do tell...
Yeah, I had it pre-ordered for $38 using a coupon that Gamestop had posted several days ago. It was supposed to be 20% off, but the coupon double stacked. Gamestop sorted the mess out by canceling all the orders. At the least, I've been trying to get this to show up in my Amazon goldbox (I pre-ordered 6 related games), but it hasn't popped up yet. There's no way I'll consider paying $60 for this without at least playing the demo. Sony seems a little full of themselves to not even have a demo up one week before launch.

I agree i dont feel like spending 60 on a sports game 40 maybe even 50 ok...anyone know any deals PM me i really wanna get this game but dont think i can justifiy 60 for it...when in like a month it will probably drop in price

5-10 bucks if you are lucky. It's a first party Sony game and people do not trade great baseball games in that quickly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6EZsmRt-jDw

Real-Time Players in The Dugout and Bullpen
New to this year’s version of The Show is having the dugouts and bullpens full to capacity in real time. What this means is that players will be seen in actual game time sitting on the bench, standing, leaning on the railings and moving around. The players will even react to the action on the field, so if a foul ball comes in the dugout, they will quickly move out of the way. You’ll also see bullpen activity – with pitchers getting up, stretching and starting to loosen up. Managers will be seen giving instruction to the bench players and calling out to the fielders in play. This realism gives you, the user, the element that you are involved in a real-life baseball game.
Stadiums Experiences (Fireworks/HR/splash counters/clocks)
Last year we added quite a bit to the stadium experience, but this year we wanted to make MLB 10 stand out even more. We set out researching how the stadiums looked, finding the little nuances of each stadium. If you’re going to include fireworks, they have to look and sound real. Each fireworks explosion is designed to recreate the actual fireworks display that is seen when the home team hits a homerun or wins the game.
Another area of detail with the stadiums was adding in the famous Home Run Splash Counter in San Francisco. This also includes a special Splash Camera which follows the ball as it splashes into McCovey Cove. Also added to our stadiums are working clocks which show the actual time from game start until finish. There are digital and analog clocks throughout the stadiums, so check out the time as you play the game.
Crowd Detail (Reaching over the rails, thundersticks, rally towels, detail)
This year we added so much more to our crowds and their animations. The crowd in MLB 10 will now react to a ball hit into the stands either on foul balls or home runs. They will also reach over the railings to try and grab a ground ball that is hit into foul territory. Play The Show and you may actually see a fan take a tumble over the wall. Another thing we wanted to spruce up is crowd accessories. We decided to add in thundersticks, rally towels and the ever-present “cowbell” in Tampa. These little touches of realism add up to make MLB 10: The Show a home run!

Demo has been dated for this Thursday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please don't agree with me and then say dumb shit like this. Even I know that's not happening. The only way you'll be getting a deal on it is if you're ok with buying it used (which I am). Retail prices on Sony games NEVER drop. The first retailer to drop the price on this game will probably be Target...and if it's like the last couple years, that will proably be in July-August.

Aside from the Gamestop screw up (which would have just been sheer luck), the only "deal" I'm trying to get is Amazon's already discounted price + plus maybe $2 off if I can get it in my goldbox + no tax and free shipping. That would probably put the price at $52, which is probably the best you'll find on a new copy of the game for at least 4 months. If you want to pay less buy used with a coupon, or wait.

MLB The Show 10 is 56.99 with no tax and free shipping new on Amazon. That includes the pre order bonus of the 6 parks.

Having to go to one gamestop after another, wasting gas, not getting a pre order bonus, dealing with gamestop idiots to find a used copy for $53 after Edge card/tax is not worth "saving" 4 bucks. Plus I rather give Amazon and San Diego Studio/SCEA my money over Gamestop.

That's not how I buy used games. If I were to buy it used from Gamestop (Where did I specify that anyway? I buy more used games from GoHastings, FamilyVideo, and eBay than I do from Gamestop), I wouldn't do it unless there was a 25% off coupon (like the one that's been available this past week for pre-ordering Heavy Rain). So yeah, it would start at $54.99 - 25% coupon ($13.75) - 10% Edge ($5.50) = $35.74 + tax.

As for "having to go to one Gamestop after another", I guess you don't know how to use the in store locator or a telephone huh? I agree without question that Amazon is THE deal if you want the game brand new and right now. Hell, I'm a paying Amazon Prime member. They get more of my money than any business should, haha.

I wouldn't even consider going after it used if I couldn't save a minimum of $15. I've already told you why I'm not interested in paying $60 this year. Why is it such a big deal to you if I buy it used? I gave SCEA my blind faith and my money the past two years. This year they don't deserve it.
if I preorder from Amazon and find out the online sucks before opening, can i send it back?
Yeah. They've got a 30 day return policy. Whether or not they pay the return shipping can be tricky though. You have to pick a reason for your return, and if you pick one that is technically "your fault" they'll deduct the return shipping cost from your refund.

1. That is if they have a 25 percent off coupon. You mention the Heavy Rain pre order which ended today/yesterday?

2. I have used their in store locator and called. Never 100 percent reliable.

3. You aren't the only one who is going to to try to find it used. 99 percent most likely the used prices is going to be 50 before tax, shipping whatever. Seems like a long wait and alot of trouble to save 5 bucks.

Dude, you're just fucking argumentative. You don't even have a god damned point, but you keep responding.

1. They've been doing those pre-order coupons routinely since before Madden 10 was coming out. This was when they stopped just having coupons without having to buy/pre-order anything else.

2. That's why I more than likely won't get it from Gamestop. You act like nobody else sells used games.

3. Way to fail at reading comprehension. I thought I highlighted how it would only be worth it if I could save at least $15, but maybe I was just imagining things.

Needless to say, I'll be sure to let you know when I get the game and exactly how much I paid. Now stop being a dick.

Are you serious? They didn't release a demo today? Man, fuck SCEA. That's arrogant as hell. They can cry me a fucking river for waiting to buy the game used now. I guess we're just "supposed" to buy it since it's The Show. Nevermind whether it actually plays well or anything. It's pathetic that they're making 2K look good at this point. You're forcing me to go check out the 2K10 demo now, Sony. Is that what you want?

Ninja Edit - Did some quick research and saw both Pastapadre and Operation Sports confirm that the demo won't be released until a week or two AFTER the game is out. fucking dumb. I'll most DEFINITELY be able to find the game used by that time. Way to dog it to 1st, Sony. I feel like we should refer to this as just "Sony being Sony", lol. Not impressed.

I dont know why you are so pissed N8. You wanted to wait to hear about the online play and that wasn't going to be included in a demo. You will find out on Tuesday from reading everybody online if the online was improved or not.

http://kotaku.com/5480579/mlb-10-devs-on-demo-delay-dont-blame-us

With fewer than five days until release, the absence of a demo for MLB 10 The Show raises uncomfortable speculation. An Sony San Diego Studio representative says that the demo is complete, but Sony hasn't approved it.

In an Operation Sports forum thread asking where a demo was, "Chris," identified as a lead animator for MLB 10 The Show, said more or less to ask Sony.

"We said there will be a demo....and there will be a demo. The simple fact is....The demo HAS been completed....the demo HAS been submitted for approval and posting. We, as devs of the game, have absolutely ZERO control as to when it gets approved or posted."
Pasta Padre, citing unidentified sources, says there will be no pre-release demo of The Show and speculates that an in-store demo program with Best Buy might have something to do with it.

But by now, this is kind of a moot point. First, MLB 2K10 is not releasing its demo on the PS3 until March 4, two days after both games release. So there is no competitive disadvantage on that console. And the MLB The Show franchise has been such a strong performer that PS3 owners with any interest in baseball are likely to buy it.

A demo's purpose would be to convince last year's players, especially Road to the Show simmers, that this year's version has more features. Or it would be meant to convince fence sitters to make the buy. Either are likely a minority of the game's installation base.

Still, for those of us who enjoy the game, it'd be nice to get a free sample ahead of time, like you get at the ice cream store. We're probably going to buy it, but it's a nice freebie.

Best Buy from what I have read has the full game available to play in store. Unlike others, I am not going to get upset over a 3 inning demo not being available. We will all know the truth about everything in 4 days which is something a demo cannot provide.
I dont know why you are so pissed N8. You wanted to wait to hear about the online play and that wasn't going to be included in a demo. You will find out on Tuesday from reading everybody online if the online was improved or not.
Yeah, I know. But at least being able to try the game out would have been a nice start. I just think it's extremely poor form for Sony to not have a demo out before release (not to mention the first time they've done it in 4 years). It makes me raise serious questions if the game is any good. The fact that there have also been no media reviews is traditionally another bad sign for a game.

And based on what Frisky posted from Kotaku, I'm not the only one to think this way. Don't get me wrong, I'll still be trying the game out in some form whenever the option is available to me, and if I'm completely wrong, I'll admit it and will apologize profusely for shaming the great name of The Show. But personally, I feel Sony's "reasons" for not releasing a demo are a huge copout.

We're supposed to believe that the approval for their own game on their own system couldn't be hammered out in time for a release before launch? Puh-lease! And the idea of "anybody with an interest in baseball is just going to buy the game anyway" is disrespectful to your loyal customers and shows the arrogance I alluded to earlier. I'm just really uncomfortable with SCEA's business model for this game at this point. It's my opinion. Toss it out if it doesn't apply to you.

As for playing the game in Best Buy, my nearest store is an hour away. If that agreement had anything to do with their reasons for not releasing an online demo, I question their motives even more. And just out of curiosity, other than your love of arguing, wildcpac, what good is there to be found from not releasing a demo before the game launches? If you're just going to be a homer and suck SCEA's teet, Operations Sports is a much better place to do it.
The fact that there have also been no media reviews is traditionally another bad sign for a game.
Not really. Lots of games have review embargoes that bar reviews from being published until release day. This is common of both big and small titles and rarely says anything about quality. This is more of an issue in the film industry.

I'm just really uncomfortable with SCEA's business model for this game at this point. It's my opinion. Toss it out if it doesn't apply to you.
I think you're overreacting here. Lots of games get released without any demo, and sometimes the demo never comes. And not just bad games, but AAA titles like Gears of War and Uncharted 2 (at least a single player demo). This is nothing new. Annoying? Perhaps, but not new or shady.

N8,

From what I have read the demo was completed and submitted to Sony on the 19th. One of the developers on operation sports stated that the team took longer doing testing/working on bugs and that the demo was done later than in years past. What can you do? The demo will be out next Thursday or the following.

I hate to tell anyone to get in their car and go drive to play a demo but it is still an option. Best Buy has the full game available to play in a kiosk. I am sorry for your case that it's an hour away. Every reader review I have read of the Kiosk has stated that the in game is better than last year. A couple of people have the game early on operationsports and have stated that the game is better than last year.

How bad can the game be? The Show has the best base for a baseball game and sports game out on the market. It's not like the developers have to rebuild the game each year. It's a double edge sword though. San Diego Studios would be stupid to rebuild the game each year and if it's not broken do not fix it. The only people who really get their mind blown are the people who play the game for the first time.

As far as demos and reviews. Uncharted 1 didn't get a demo, Uncharted 2 had a limited mp demo for those who bought Infamous. The Uncharted 2 single player demo wasn't out until 3? months after release date. Dragon Age, Borderlands, Ratchet and Clank ACIT, Smackdown 2010, Bioschock 2, Mass Effect 2 and countless other triple A titles did not have demos.

As far as Reviews. 99 percent of games aren't reviewed until the night before or the day of their release date. Gamespot is notorious for doing reviews later than the release date and IGN is usually the day before. Usually it's only the best of the best Triple A titles get reviewed a week or two before release. Mass Effect 2 and Heavy Rain are the more recent titles to be reviewed well in advance. It also has alot to do with the fact that neither game have online. It would be stupid of a reviewer to review The Show before being able to play several games online.

You have stated time and time again that you want to wait til you find about the online aspect. I can respect that and that is your choice as well as others. That is impossible to find out before the release date. What sports game has ever put out an online demo? We are 4 days away from the release date, reviews and consumer reviews. Calm down!

I don't understand the hate towards Sony for this demo situation. Would it be good of them to get the demo out before the game launches... sure it would. Would it make business sense to do it that way....yes it would. But it's not like this is the only game to not have a demo before launch. Plus it sounds like it was out of the developers hands anyways so what were they to do really? The demo will be out in a week or two so everyone (Nate) just calm down.
The fact that there have also been no media reviews is traditionally another bad sign for a game.
This is where your bitching is just making up stuff now. Having reviewed the past few games before they came out, the embargoes have always been for the day of release, so it's not like the last few games have had reviews weeks in advance of the launch. All you're doing is making a ton of assumptions about why the demo isn't here and how MLB 10 is secretly an awful game that Sony is trying to release before anyone can get word of it out.

n8 is just a whiner...He whines and whines because 09 The Show was not tailored to his exact specifications, and now he whines about 10 thats not even out yet.

I can understand complaining about the online. But complaining about the whole game and having entitlement issues over a demo, wow!

Facts

This game is going to over at the very minimum 200 hours of offline fun. That comes out to spending 40 hours with RTTS and playing a full 162 game season at 1 hour per game. Add in franchise, Home Run Derby, exhibition and another RTTS campaign. That is going to be pushing 300 hours minimum of FUN all offline for $55 off of amazon.

It's also funny that people (N8) point out at how bad Sony customer relations are. Last time I checked San Diego Studios and Sony invited die hard fans to the Studio to help work on the game by offering ideas and suggestions. Last time I checked the very same people post online and answer fan questions.

The game has about 90 percent of all the little things you will find/see at a live baseball game. All they have to do is continue to fine tune/tweak minor improvement and add the other little things. The game is already crazy right now and it's going to be sick when they add batboys, weather, team and player specific celebrations, a deeper real time presentation and more stances/delivery.

All right. I'll drop it until the game is out. But I don't think I'm in the wrong for thinking this is a shitty way to market your product. The fact is, anybody who believes the game is going to be good has nothing to go on but assumptions either. We're all rooted in our biases right now. I admit that. I never said it was "secretly an awful game", but it could indicate that it has flaws and/or things from last year remain unfixed.

I'm not saying if it does or it doesn't. But you don't know anymore than I do. We're just assuming different things. I'm not a hater of this game. As I've said for over a year, The Show is my favorite gaming series. To me last year was a step backward. I just wish they'd show us that this year isn't another one. But again, to appease the masses, I won't say anything else until we see the final product.

It's okay to be concerned, but you've been slowly escalating it into something of a conspiracy theory since you first made everyone aware of your concern a few weeks ago.

The demo situation is all up to when they start working on it and it seems like the team decided to finish the game first before working on the demo. To get your early demo, they'd have to pull guys from the team to just work on the demo while everyone else is finishing it up, which leaves them with less people to finish the game. That leads to more bugs and issues not being fixed for the retail build just so people can have a demo before launch. Developers talk about how much making a demo for E3 or other press events takes away from important development time, so imagine doing that in the last month or two of development before launch.

As for reviews, since the online has been such an issue, launch day reviews haven't been all that common for this series in the past two years. As far as when this year's game will be getting reviews, unless they're reviewing debug builds, don't expect launch day reviews that will be able to have much to say about online. It doesn't look like review copies will be going out until Monday, so don't expect any meaningful reviews until later that week when you can probably get as much feedback about how the game has turned out from the community. You'll be better served by watching out for word from the community on what's better or worse from everything I've read since I doubt many reviews will get that specific about the issues you had with 09.

I've been playing the 2k10 review on the 360 and I really like the pitching and batting controls it has now. The pitching seams a lot easier as the timing for it seems much slower.

Road to the Show enhancements:
Aaron Luke here to bring you the next chapter in our series of MLB 10: The Show posts. This installment will focus on the enhancements we’ve made to “Road To The Show” (RTTS). We’ve targeted several aspects of the mode for improvements, and think you’ll like what you find in this year’s edition of RTTS.

We’ll begin by discussing player creation. This year’s PS3 Create Player system has received some new accessory additions, giving you even more options to customize. You can now select a variety of color settings to nearly every part of your player’s gear. Among many other options, you can customize three areas of your glove with different colors, set both the barrel and handle colors of your bat, and customize your shoe colors. We’ve also added a field to the General tab that will allow you to determine whether or not your player was born in the U.S. This will determine which roster you would appear on if your player were to be selected for the All-Star Futures Game.

After finishing up your player’s look and deciding whether to enter the draft or select your team, you’ll notice on entry of the mode that your season begins right at the start of the Double-A season. You will no longer start out in Spring Training and have to square off against MLB-caliber players. We’ve changed this flow to better mimic the real world, and to make an invite to Spring Training something that’s earned. Plus, to give you a good head start right out of the gate, we’re giving you some training points to help you get through your initial advancement goal set.

Now that you’re in the mode, you should take note of some new options this year that will certainly change how you experience games. The new Game Watch and Game Completion options will certainly change how you play RTTS games, as they’ll now give you the ability to determine how much of the game you want to view. Set your Game Watch option to All Pitches if you want to see every pitch of the entire game; All Fielding if you only want to see your at-bats and be a part of every fielding play; Result Play if you want to expedite your games to see only the final pitch of an at-bat while on either offense or defense; or Classic if you prefer the old style and only want to see plays involving your player.

Game Completion is similar to Game Watch, however it only takes affect after you’ve been removed from a game. So if you’re a starting pitcher, this option will let you see what your bullpen does with the runners they inherited from you. This option has similar settings as Game Watch, so you can set it to All Pitches, Result Play, or Off. When any of these options are set, and you’re on the bench waiting for your next opportunity, you’ll also notice a new custom view from the dugout.

We’re very excited about these new options as they really add to that feeling of suspense as to whether the ball will be hit your way or not. Now, more than before, you’ll need to be on your toes in the field.

Among other options to note, we brought back the classic L1/R1 baserunning controls for you old-schoolers. The RTTS Baserunning option will default to New, but if you prefer the single button press style controls, be sure to change it to Classic. We’ve also added in the ability to take pregame batting practice when you’re in the starting lineup for that game. You can step into the cage and take ten swings to help get your timing down before game-time. You won’t receive any training points or attribute improvements, but this will definitely help get you into a nice rhythm. To ensure you participate in batting practice, set the Pre-Game Batting Practice option to On. Lastly, we’ve added a new Mound Warm-Up feature that will give relievers a chance to throw eight warm-up pitches on the mound, after coming out of the bullpen. Just like pregame batting practice, you won’t receive any training points for this, but it does give you the chance to get a good rhythm before facing live hitters.

Moving on to other new game features, one area of focus for us this year was to emphasize fundamental baseball. As a result, we came up with two new systems that are sure to reinforce the notion of “team first.” First we created a new mistake-tracking system that keeps tabs on what you do during a game, and will penalize you for not playing smart baseball. If you do things like throw to the wrong base, forget to cover your base on a force out, or get caught stealing with the pitcher batting to end of the inning, you will receive training point penalties. To combat the “me first” motto a lot of RTTS players have taken when on the basepaths, we’ve created a new Green Light system. When you first start out with a club, you’ll have the Green Light. From there, it’s up to you how you handle it. If you’re a slow runner, and you take the risk of stealing and get caught, there’s a good chance your manager will take away your green light. Continue to steal without it and you risk getting benched for a game or even losing your spot in the lineup. Once the green light is removed, you’ll have to improve your speed and baserunning ability to a level that satisfies your manager in order to regain it.

For you stat-heads, we’ve created a new career stat-tracking system that keeps tabs on your stats versus every team. We aren’t tracking every stat, only the top-level stats. For position players, we track total games played, average, at-bats, hits, home runs, runs batted in, walks, and strikeouts. For pitchers, we track your games played, won-loss record, ERA, innings pitched, hits allowed, home runs allowed, walks allowed, and strikeouts. You can view these stats at any time during the game, or in the front end. When in a game, access your career stats by pressing the select button. The in-game display has even more detailed stats than the front end, as you’ll get a breakdown of your stats versus every pitcher or batter on the opponent’s roster. The front end will display only your total stats versus each team in your current league.

We’ve also done some polish on the overall game flow and information presented when in a game. This year, you can now access your stat-based advancement goals at any point during a game. To do so, press up on the D-Pad and you’ll see both your stat-based advancement goals as well as your current dynamic goal. We’ve also altered the flow for presenting dynamic goals when pitching. You’ll no longer be taken to the “presentation land” to get your goal screen. Now your goal will appear out of the score bar, and the game flow won’t be interrupted. If you missed the goal display, you can press up on the D-Pad at any point to check if you have a dynamic goal.

Not only have we included the new Catcher Calling the Game mode to RTTS, or the new Pitching/Fielding trainings (post coming soon), but also we’ve put a big emphasis on a lot of little things that have a big impact on the mode. As stated in a previous post, the All-Star Futures Game and Home Run Derby also find their way into RTTS. We’re very excited about this year’s offering, and hope you are as well. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I wish you all the best of luck on your Road To The Show.
