MLB 2K6 thread
WHAT A CROCK! I just deleted all the rosters I downloaded and all the vip profiles on my HD and tried again. 5th inning it froze up between top and bottom of the inning. I started it again and the damn thing frozen in the top of the 1st when the cpu got a ground rule double.

I paid $64 for this game and i've played only 2 games! How I managed to play those 2 full games is beyond me........ I even managed to unlock the homerun achievement in one of those games this afternoon.
I can't believe this shit. There are tons of people on both boards saying that they are freezing, however it seems like some people have games that don't freeze. One guy even claimed that his Eb stopped selling the game because they got ALL of their copies back(2ksports board) Definitely not picking this up now, it just sucks that this is the only MLB game we get! I bet 2k sports's email box is getting killed right now, can't wait to see what they say about the issue.
Where are all the EA bashers now?

EA FOREVER!
2K Sports NEVER!!!!!
LOL:D ....I think this is just another example though how gamers get screwed by these exclusivity deals. I think Madden was sub-par for the 360, and it's obvious MLB 2k6 is a mess. I loved MVP baseball and loved 2k football, and both the deals meant I was stuck with the franchise I didn't prefer. This just sucks!

I always thought Madden and 2k Football were pretty even, but I prefer MVP Baseball to 2k Baseball by leaps and bounds (hell, I even prefer the All-Star Baseball series over 2k Baseball).

The state of sports games on the 360 isn't too hot right now (with Fight Night Round 3 and perhaps Amped 3 being the only notable exceptions). I hope both EA and 2k Sports get their shit straight.

Funny how Top Spin 2 and Amped were pretty polished when it came to bugs and what not, yet the higher priced version of MLB2k6 has bugs galore, as did College Hoops. Hopefully they do a recall or patch this shit up because I was possibly going to get it after E3.

Gamers definitely are losing in this whole exclusive rights battle! I prefer EA for ALL my sports games but I am all about having a choice.

Wrestlemania 21 PART TWO on HGH and Viagra and even worse!

I'll have to agree there for the major sports, with the exception of Hockey EA has had the upper hand on (well now since 2k Football isn't there anymore.) and they have the rights to Rallisport Challenge 3 now (since they bought out dice) and Burnout, which is enough for me.

But in the other unknown sports /less popular sports in the US, 2k will exceed with Top Spin (It's better then Virtua Tennis to boot) , Amped (I actually like it more then SSX, but thats merely preference) and Links (when It's released) 2k will get my cash. It's too bad EA didn't do College Baseball for the 360, they would have had my money on that.
How do they miss something like this in beta testing?
How do any people who are actually working on the game miss this? It's part of the damn job that you play the game you're working on to see if it fucking works.

I've heard nothing but bad stuff about the XBox version one, haven't heard much about the 360 one. Someone said that they were playing and they caught a fly ball and it still counted the guy as safe.. then a guy hit a ball to center field, the guy ran to get the ball, then just stood there.. couldn't move the guy to get the ball at all!

They fucked up big time with this one.

grrrrrrrrrrr this is so frustrating...i actually like the gameplay but the crashes are killing me -_-

can't even get past 2nd inning -_-

ventured to gamefaqs to see what they were having, I finally managed a complete game by taking off my hard drive and just using the memory card. Very weird.

me too, i took my HD off and used memory card only and finally finished a Japan vs. USA game

the rosters on WBC are sooo outdated -_-

wow, didn't know this game had so many problems. glad I didn't pick it up today.

I work retail and have a question. Since this game has all these problems if someone comes back for an exchange (I sold a couple today), should I just refer them to the manufacturer? Since exchanging the game would do little good, just the same problems?

this game sucks really bad online. Tons of exploits, the base running glitching is a joke (since the fielders turn around and throw so slow) the bunting is nuts since theres so much lag in fielding, and when the games are really laggy moving your fielder can be really awful.

Plus i cant count the number of times ive fielded the ball in the outfield and the the guy wouldnt throw it no matter how many times or how hard i held a base button.

I think the worse thing online about the game online has to be that everyone plays as the mets or the cubs. Mark prior and Pedro's windups lag really bad and throw the timing off. it sucks.

posted this on another forum and here is my take on it....

graphics: dont believe the screens that you have seen so far for the 360 version, it looks nothing like it. im baffled by the way they even advertised it on its own box. no way do the pictures in the box look anything remotely close to how gameplay footage is. everything is a choppy and u will really notice it as you play in high def. baseball players also do not look anything in their video game counterparts, with the exception of a few people.
one thing that really annoyed me is that they used randow @ss pictures for not very well known players. i picked the giants and they didnt even have the right pictures for half of the bullpen. instead of putting a "no picture available" they just go ahead and decided to put random pictures of people we have never seen before in our lives. so warning your favorite player in your hometown team might be some random bum 2k sports paid off the streets
gameplay: horrible unrealistic physics and gameplay. why do they lob the ball when they are throwing out people from the infield? its ridiculous. also i was tagged into a double play when my players were clearly standing and not even moving, meaning that there are glitches everywhere. it happened more than once.
some of u might have heard that the game is full of bugs. it is true. here are just some of the bugs:
game stops in the middle of gameplay, screen blanks out, weird calls that are obviously wrong, random music playing during gameplay that almost muffles the commentary...etc..
so please take this into consideration before buying this game. this is the first 360 game that i did not like at all.

having said that you can buy the game from me if you want..check it out on craigs list for the san francisco area

I hate all these negative reviews. I still will pick it up today to see if I have the problems. Hopefully they release a patch. NHL used to freeze on me, but now it works great.

I played for about three hours yesterday and was lucky I didn't have any freezes at all. I really like the game and think it is very good. The graphics aren't mind blowing but imo are pretty dam good as displayed on my set using vga cables. If they can correct the freezing issues some are having I would definately recommend this game. I think it plays a very good, fun and entertaining game of baseball. I was screwing around in an exhibition game and robbed a homrun at the wall to unlock one of the achievements. I never thought I would get that one and I got it first.

I can't speak for playing online as I only downloaded their roster update and didn't play any games online. All of my gaming yesterday was in exhibition and the GM Career Mode.

Downloaded the roster update? Theres no roster update available that i saw on the xbox version today.
Downloaded the roster update? Theres no roster update available that i saw on the xbox version today.
There is a download available for offline play only that can be downloaded from xbl that is dated 3/22/06. This is for the 360.

Weird online works just fine, I played 4 games last night with no problems at all. Logged off and tried a quick game and it froze right away so I reset and tried a franchise game and it froze as well. This sucks because baseball is the one sports game that I don't really enjoy online in. Way to many idiots refuse to pitch near the strike zone and it's boring to just draw walks and force them to pitch decent. Also if you are playing offline you can actually play games that do not involve the Yankees! lol

I must say that after actually getting to play the game more that the baserunning controls are a fucking joke! I lost count of how many times I wanted my runner to try for 2nd but he stops around first even though i'm making him advance. He stops then starts up and bam your out. Also if he does manage to advance without holding up half the time he chugs right around 2nd and goes for 3rd without being told to...... EVEN worse that I thought I had the shit under control when I just started going to 2nd or 3rd and sliding in but the stupid fucker will slide in and then sometimes just starts running again.

Like someone already said your catcher is terrible at throwing out runners. I would know the guy was gonna run do a pitch out to gun down the runner and the stupid catcher usually still throws a bad ball that draws the fielder off the bag......

Defense? WE NO NEED NO STINKIN DEFENSE! LOL It's a joke I was so happy to see every game I played online that my opponents sucks as bad as I did. Fielding is pure joy if your at the bat and anger if your playing the field. It was like lil kids playing baseball, I was cracking up last night watching guys run into each other and the best all time is when the fielder is gonna try to throw home but the button is tapped a second earlier or the ball wasn't fielded cleanly yet your guy will dive and the ball is still layin there.

BTW I like the IGN comment "This is not what MLB 2K6 looks like." WTF are those pics on the box from????? LMAO granted I don't have a fancy HDTV but still there is no way anything i've saw could clean up that nice. Maybe a replay zoomed way in?

My friend picked this up yesterday. And after playing it I still plan on picking it up. First off the freezing did happen on his Box also but it has happenend with a few games already to him. SO hopefully the game I get wont have that problem. That aside...I think the hitting and pitching are great in this game. Its the main reason I want this game. Fielding you can get used to. Running bases kind of sucks but after you get used to it, it isnt as bad. Graphic wise the game didnt look that much better then the current gen on a standard TV. I havent played it on my HD TV yet so I will leave judgment for graphics until later. I mean overall I think this is just another game that 2K just ported over to 360 and didnt really care that much about it. I think next years games will be a lot better because they should be built form the ground up for the next gen consoles. I do want this game mainily because it is the only MLB game around. Except for the Show but i didnt care for that. And personally i think 2K's NHL and NBA games were always better than EAs. Football, even though I liked Madden better, 2K's game was good. After High Heat went bye bye, MVP was the best baseball game in town. Well starting with the 04 MVP.

Well, i picked it up today on my lunch hour....hopefully it does not freeze on mine, we;ll see. Also, as for GAMEPLAY....you can turn off the TURBO baserunning right, I hear that is a main problem with running.

I love the 2K baseball but even on the old xbox the game would freeze up on my occassionally during games.

Since hearing all the bad reports about freezing and the truth about the graphics I think I'm just going to pass on this until there is a price drop.

I might give it a rent to form my own opinion, but I'm not paying $60 for it.

Mine freezes during the 2nd inning. Online play is completely fine. I took out the HD and was able to play a full game. I lost, so luckily it didn't save. From what I can gather, the game is locking up when its caching the replays during the inning or after a home run.

Well I got to demo the game during lunch when I picked up Odama and I must say I am very disappointed. The graphics are sub-par for 2K sports title.

I think that Top Spin looks better in HD.

Everything else seemed fine and the game did not freeze but I only played 1 and a half innings before I had to go back to work. I like the swing stick and the pictching interface. I hit a home run in the bottom of the first with Derek Lee and the game was tied 1-1 when I quit.

A customer did come into the store while I was there to exchange his copy for a new one because it was freezing.

To me I do not think it looks any better than the xbox version and the pictures on the back of the box are not in game screens. No way, no how!

I've heard a lot of good things about MLB06 the Show so I think I going to pick this up instead for my baseball fix this year. This game is no where near the asking price of $60 and unless this is the only console you own I would suggest waiting until next year. Just like I have for the Cubs to win the World Series.

"For those customers experiencing technical issues with Major League Baseball 2K6 on Xbox 360, 2K Sports is aware of the "freeze" problem some customers are experiencing and is working on a solution. This appears to occur for owners of Xbox 360 with HDD and a solution will be available in the very near future. For updates on this issue, please visit http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?p=691251 . We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this has caused to your playing experience."

If you haven't already, please email [email protected] with "MLB 2K6 Xbox 360 freeze issue" in the subject line to be receive email as soon as we have any updates.

Very bad news for 2K sports. If you check on the 2Ksports boards, everyone is pissed off about this issue. I really want to pick this up but more likely then not, it's just gonna freeze like everybody else. I'll just wait til a patch is released or if there is a big price drop on it.

I can deal with taking off the HD, I've got a card. Now if I can figure out how to send a challenge to someone. I've yet to have a baserunning problem other than my own poor judgment, they've yet to act weird. It is too hard in the field to get under a fly ball that you're almost near. Always ends up a snocone.

So far it sounds like Mario Superstar Baseball is a more polished game than MLB 2K6. I think I'll pick that up instead.

Well that sucks about freezing, but atleast taking out the HDD it eliminates the problem.

I can't believe Top Spin 2 really looks better then MLB2k6 on HD settings? What else does the next gen version offer? Guess I'll go check out the IGN review.

Can you rename the players in Mario baseball? LOL

Taking off the HD is stupid since then u can't save unless you go buy a memory card. fuck them i'll just play online tonight and go to Best Buy tomorrow and try to get a refund or store credit or something.... I knew I shoulda just waited and got it from Gamefly.

same thing i nthe ps2 version. It seriously took 4 mins of a black screen before the game loaded to the initial screen... i thought my ps2 was busted.

Well, I played THREE complete games today and not one freeze....so I'm happy. The game is pretty good. I sucked at first, I really need to learn the hit stick. I tried the Classic mode, but I hate how you cannot check swings with it. The baserunning is ok...I thought the turbo would be dumb, but it's ok...

Fielding is average though....I need to get used to that. Players seem to move in slow motion at times. I like the game though. Playing the WBC since the REAL rosters are out of whack...evern the 3-22-06 ones. I really need to update them. Good game....happy with my purchase, especially when I get better and get my rosters updated.

So, any SLIDERS for this yet to make it realistic? I left everything on default so far....I may bump the difficulty up when I learn hitting a bit. I won against Mexico like 11-3 (w/USA).
Can you rename the players in Mario baseball? LOL
Donkey Kong = Barry Bonds

But it wouldn't be that realistic because Bonds' head is still twenty times larger than DK's.

My friend bought a copy, it started freezing. So he returned it then the new copy froze after the 3rd inning just like the last one. He then called me I went to IGN's boards and sure enough everyone is having this problem. Then I went to 2k website they confirmed it as well. They say they are working on it.

In 2K6 Barry is a bearded white man at least in Mario Baseball he'd be a big ass monkey just like in real life. ;)

BTW I love the sig Graystone, it's the 2nd best on this site right now! The only one better is the Fish Tank! How say you?

Well, it's good 2K sports is working on a fix, but I'm glad mine doesn't freeze (knock on wood). I cannot wait to play a bit more....it's a fun game, not GREAT, but fun.

Also, what cards did everyone get? I left mine sealed, but I got Jeter and MAriano Rivera and a mystery player.

The game is very good imo. I have been lucky not to have any freezes but my brother can't finish a game without it locking up on him.

Yeah just purchased it last night and I haven't had any freezes, if I get a freeze and can't get past the second inning the game is going back and I'll get Far Cry or something. The game is decent, pitching and hitting are really fun, baserunning is a chore though.

Yeah, baserunning is a bit odd. It's njot that bad once you get used to it...although, using the speed-burst is a bit tiresome....unless you are trying to leg out an infield single, but for normal running with more than 1 man on, it gets a bit cumbersome.

Played two complete games with no freezing. I am playing exibition games though, no season mode where constant saving is required. Problems start to happen when the game accesses the hard drive from what I've read.

Okay I think if you turn off the stadium music, and the replays that will help the freezing. I personally haven't had any problems with the freezing yet but expect that to change tonight. I played three games last night and one online game and no freezing.

I hate my local Best Buy and had already swore off shopping at that store along time ago so why the hell I bought this game from them I have no idea.......

I tried to return my copy to Best Buy with a print out of the 1st page of the 2ksports MLB 360 forum from the other night where at least every other line was about freezing issues and a print out of the release from 2Ksports.com about the freezing blah blah and they refused to give me a refund or store credit even though they had already heard about it. My only option was to go get another copy of the game off the shelf and they would open it and give it to me. After arguing for awhile I said whatever went to grab another copy and the game guy was like hey you are more than welcome to buy the game but let me warn you about something and then he tells me about the freezing problem also and that he also bought the game here and they wont even let him exchange it so he had to buy a memory card and he says his runs pretty good so far without the HD attached and then he tries to sell me a memory card....... I go back up and argue with a manager now and still the best they will offer is a "new" opened copy of the same game and a guarantee that if this freezes as well I can come back and repeat the process.

They said that you have to contact the game maker for a refund since it's their problem. If BB knows about the damn problem then don't keep selling the fucking thing hoping people will buy a memory card to play it.

With that out of the way........... Anyone with a memory card want to buy a PERFECT condition opened MLB 360?:D

Well, Best Buy is following store policy...it really is 2K's problem. They will fix it....when, who knows. Mine played find for 3 games....have yet to play again, probably today.

So, I decided today that I had to atleast give this game a rent. I picked it up at blockbuster and came home and played a game with no directions and got smoked 8 - 1 in my first game. I played as the 'stros against the White Sox. I didn't set up a VIP file and I cleared my Cache like someone suggested on the 2K site and deleted my old NBA 2k6 file, so I didn't have any freezes....hope that works in the long run:)

The gameplay was pretty fun overall and probably would have been a lot better if I had directions to read. I had atleast 10 passed balls and couldn't quite figure out the base running yet, but I could definitely see this game being a fun game with some knowledge of the controls and some practice.

I really like the presentation and thought the announcing was top notch. Replays looked great, but the overall graphics were just OK to me. The stadium looked last generation and none of the players looked like their real life counterparts. Roy Oswalt's delivery looked nothing like his real delivery, and even my wife commented how the players looked nothing like themselves and how Roy O's delivery looked nothing like his real delivery. She watched me play my whole game and at the end of the game she commented how she liked the baseball game I played last year (MVP on the cube) much better.

Anyway, I think in the one game I played, I see a lot of potential and I think barring some freezes, I'll probably try to track down some general directions online and may end up picking it up if I can get the gameplay down.

Overall, not quite the next-gen game I was expecting, but definitely a lot better than a lot of people have been making it out to be.
