MLB 2K6 thread

After more research, I tried the Morrowind trick. I loaded up 5 different games and got into the game so that it had to load up all the relevant data. Then I put back in MLB and I got through an entire game, HD on, not a single hitch.

For whatever reason I removed FFXI from my HDD, and the game seems to be working as I have gotten through 3 franchise games *knock on wood*. The game is actually pretty good. Player models it seems are hit or miss. I play as the Padres so Mike Piazza looks pretty good, but a player like Khalil Greene has a buzz cut? Odd.

Someone mentioned passed balls. The first couple games I played I had that some problem. But once you get the hang of it, I like the system better than MLB 2k5 or MVP2005. Just always remember you have to account for the break of the pitch. Such as when you throw a curve ball, wherever you put the pitch locator, it will break down and right or down and left from that spot. Once I understood that I got a 15 strikeout game with Chris Young. Anyway I'm happy for now with my purchase. Just hope the game doesn't freeze up again.

Wow my friend brought this over today and I hated it. This does not look next gen at all. I think MVP 2005 for Xbox looked better than this. I know graphics arent everything but these are some of the worst ive seen on the 360. I also hated the batting and the game seemed very glitchy. I'm glad I didnt throw my $60 away on this.

My only problem with the game so far is that I can't score any runs with the Marlins in my franchise. I get alot of singles and get guys on base but have a hard time getting clutch hits with this young team. Cabrera is the only player with power in the lineup. At least my game works though, knock on wood.

I've had one problem with freezing throughout the game, so I guess i'm in the clear. I never created a VIP profile, so maybe that's the problem?

As said before, batting and pitching are great..fielding is shoddy. I think baserunning is ok even though it's getting alot of criticism.

The main problem i've had is with a choppy framerate and the game just acting glitchy. Graphics are ok..nothing spectacular. The player models look like that of MLB 2k5..which were pretty bad. Some models can be spot on, while others look nothing like the actual player.

On the whole, not a bad game. I recommend it to any baseball fan

So, aynone working on an accurate roster update? I want something accurate before I start my franchise. I may just update the Tigers and change a few names.

Ok, i screwed around with my rosters enough to start my franchise....yet, I suck balls. I used sliders I found on operationsports.com, and they seem ok....but not great. I got SHUT-OUT in two games...I being Detroit vs KC!

Any tips on hitting? I'm using the swing stick and I've sorta gotten used to it, but as you can tel, I'm not great. Not sure if the sliders I used effected me...I think I have Contact at like 45 and Power at 53 maybe.

Thanks!

I only rented the game, so I don't even have the instructions:D , but after searching through a few message boards I found a few hitting tips: Clicking the left thumbstick and picking the right area in the "Hitter's eye" really gives you a great advantage. Usually when I pick it right, I either hit a dinger or go for extra bases. Also, I usually just pull back and let go with slap and spray hitters, but pull back and push forward with my big guns. They seem more prone for those homeruns or extra base hits when you pull back and actually push forward on the stick.

On another note (after playing about 8-10 games):

I like this game, but every game I play, I seem to run into more and more glitches. The fielding can be absolutely atrocious at times. A slower guy (forget who it was) hit a routine grounder to my shortstop and somehow beat it out....still can't figure out how! Double plays are really tough to turn, and I see some of the worst throws from both the CPU and myself on some of the most routine plays.

The announcing is pretty good most of the time, but they make mistakes quite a bit. I know most people probably get the, "He hit 0 homeruns last year and had 0 RBIs", but on top of that I had a start with Roy O and at the beginning of the game they said, " His ERA was straight up miserable last year....maybe it was just a fluke"....last time I heard a 2.95 ERA was pretty good!....but who knows:D . When you factor in the those things, the mistakes in uniforms, and the star players who look nothing like themselves, you can tell this game comes up way short on expectations.

After playing a couple of games on my rental, I was sure I was going to purchase this, but with each passing game I am finding more and more unexcuseable glitches and problems. The game does a lot right, but does too much wrong. I'm starting to think now that I'll either wait for a price drop or repurchase a PS2 and pick up the show. In any case, I've been pretty lucky with no freeze ups yet......I hope I don't continue to run into problems because they really sour the experience...

Exactly. It also helps to buy the Inside Edge scouting reports. For the pitchers that are available, it gives a pretty good indication as to where they will pitch. Once you know that, you can place the hitter's eye over that zone and you will do fine.

Fielding is pretty bad sometimes..but I think it has alot to do with the players being used as well. I have Omar Vizquel at SS and he does great defensively. I just find the players hard to control sometimes.

The 0 HRs and 0 RBIs thing is getting annoying too. Other than that, the announcing is wonderful. The major bugs i'm finding are just graphics problems. It feels like the game isn't able to run correctly on the 360 or something, but im sure it is.

I'm happy with the purchase, but I am disappointed in many ways. I wish MVP was still around...at least there would be another option.

If anyone wants to play online send me a PM..I have yet to play and i'm hoping it doesn't lag like crazy. Lags + glitches = Not good

The 2K Sports QA has confirmed 2 work-around methods. http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?p=691251
2K Sports is still finalizing a solution to alleviate the "freeze" issue on Major League Baseball 2k6 for Xbox 360 that some of our consumers are experiencing. We should have a downloadable patch available once it has fully tested to first party compliance standards.

In the meantime, our dedicated 2K Sports QA team has tested and confirmed two work-around methods for those consumers who are experiencing the "freeze" issue:

1) Remove or disable the HDD

or,

2) Load three different Xbox 360 games to the main title screen of each game then load Major League Baseball 2K6 on Xbox 360. All three Xbox 360 games must be completely different before loading Major League Baseball 2K6.

While we realize that these measures may seem unconventional, our 2K Sports QA Team has tested both methods and both will remedy issues that are causing the Major League Baseball 2K6 "freeze" issue on the Xbox 360. Again, we truly apologize for any inconvenience to your playing experience.

Please stay tuned for more updates. Thank you for your attention.

The first one (remove HDD) has worked for me. I've gotten through 6 games so far with no problems.

I hope the patch comes out pretty soon so I dont have to remove my HDD every time I want to play.

I like step #2 for the "FIX". Anyways, my game is working great, I just suck. I tried the tricks for hitting, but I'm getting nothing. Maybe I'll move my sliders back to PRO for a while until I get the hang of things.

Don't feel bad double, your not alone. Offensively I suck too. I can get alot of singles and a double here in there but I haven't hit one homerun in five franchise games. I'm scoring an average of like one run a game. I should have at least a few wins since the pitching has been great. I guess I need to fool around with the hittters eye.

Have you guys turned to the outfield arm strength yet? I have been thinking about doing this.
one thing that really annoyed me is that they used randow @ss pictures for not very well known players. i picked the giants and they didnt even have the right pictures for half of the bullpen. instead of putting a "no picture available" they just go ahead and decided to put random pictures of people we have never seen before in our lives. so warning your favorite player in your hometown team might be some random bum 2k sports paid off the streets
You do know, that those arent pictures, those are just renders of what their faces are in the game, so they put them in there as their picture

I finally hit a few home runs and shockingly I hit two off of Pedro Martinez to start the game. I didn't think I'd get my first few dingers off of him. Using the hitters eye for batting definately helps judging which pitches to take and which to swing on.

Well, I started to hit a little better, but I'm using PRO sliders with pitcher fatigue lowered a bit and baserunning speed up a bit. I'm still not a great hitter, but I'm like 2-4 now in my franchise.
Hey double, does NHL freeze on you in the franchise mode? Just wondering.
Nope, not anymore. NHL used to freeze at the END of a game, but it seemed to fix itself. I simmed a few games...not sure if that helped.

MLB froze on me last night, but I waited and it fixed itself and I was able to finish the game....so, still good :)

Anyone TURN OFF baserunning speed-burst in the game? I'm just curious how that works? Any way to lower the outfielders throwing power also? I have players getting thrown out at second with ease on balls hit to the walls.
Any way to lower the outfielders throwing power also? I have players getting thrown out at second with ease on balls hit to the walls.
I may be wrong but I believe the only way to do this is to edit each individual player's arm strength. Doing something like that would be quite a task, and probably not worth it. However the people on the 2kSports Forum are asking about the same thing, and also trying to lobby to get some kind of patch made to alter these rediculous outfield throws. I doubt it will happen but one can hope!

Dam, I was hoping there was a slider for outfield arm strength. They should definately patch that if there isn't one. I have had a guy thrown out at home plate before from someone throwing from just about the warning track without hitting the cutoff man. I was screaming at the tv, this is BS!!! LOL

Who threw the ball? If it was someone like Vlad or Ichiro, I could understand it.

I'm glad I held off on picking this up. The problems just sound way too bad to warrant a sixty dollar purchase. Really makes me wish EA still had the rights to the majors.

man... I ran into my first freeze. Here i am, in the 6th inning of an AL champ game against the sox. Im up 1, and chavez comes up, he sets up, and then, freeze... LAME

After playing a little more this weekend and today I decided on getting rid of this game. I just dont want to get used to the fielding and running. I think they both suck and have been done so much better in other games. At first I thought if I played more it would grow on me and not be that bad. But it just didn't happen. I did like the batting and pitching but thats it. I mean for full price to me its totally not worth it. Especially with the freezing problem. I used to manage an EB so the employees around here all know me and will let me return it. I'm just totally disappointed in this game. MVP is far better. I might try the Show to get my MLB fix but i really wanted this game to be good escpecially because it was for 360. I hate how most of the games so far have been built for the current gen and just ported to the 360. Anyway there is always next year...

I'm actually pretty hooked on the gameplay now. I love the batting and pitching, but the glitches and bugs really do kill this game.

I noticed a new little bug last night. Probably a small one to most, but these little bugs add up to quite a large nest! Last night I noticed that when you hit a homerun at Minute Maid Park, they actually have two trains on the rail. One that stays in place and one that rides the track...weird!

I ended up catching a great deal on Ebay, so I bought it since I needed my baseball fix, but with every new bug and glitch that pops up, it just becomes more inconceviable to me how they could release a game with this many problems. If the pitching and hitting weren't so great, and if some of the great presentation like the chase cam on steals weren't present, this game would be a total disaster.

after 1 week, i actually feel every penny i spent on this game was well worth it.. it's so fun to play in the xbox live leagues/tournaments and i love the pitching/hitting too.. base running isn't that bad after some practices and i actually enjoy the challenge.

hopefully they fix all the problems and improve graphic on 2k7

as always, message me on xbox live or drop me a PM here to challege me to a 1v1 game!!!

Rented it from Gamecrazy and it's an ok game. Played about 4-5 games so far and luckly it hasnt frozen yet (took out my HD to play, might put it back in to try franchise mode). As of right now, the only thing that is killing me is the framerate after the batter hits the ball (almost makes it impossible to field) and the fielding itself. I'm thinking of just sticking with MLB2K5 for the Xbox.
Hey does anybody know if you change the sliders, do you still qualify for achievements?
I don't think you do...If you check the achievements, it says on PRO. As soon as you move one slider....no achievements as the difficulty goes to CUSTOM. Which sucks, since I'm using a modified PRO sliders....oh well.

I'm still enjoying this game, fun gameplay....froze maybe once on me. I'm really getting the hang of hitting now...I'll have to tweak the sliders. Threw my first shutout too....that was nice

I havent played my game since i tried to play about 6 games and right about the 3 inning FREEEEEZ. Damn it I wanna play the franchise mode and not have this problem. Dose anyone know when the patch is gonna be fixed? Or a est?

They(2K sports) haven't given any kind of estimate as to when a patch is going to be released which has been pretty upsetting to everyone who bought the game and had the freezing problem. They posted what was basically a response of we'll release when its done. Gee thanks alot 2K for making your customers feel better about purchasing your product that doesn't work. Its all pretty ridiculous.

Played another game in my Franchise yesterday. Pounded the Rockies 41-0 on the default settings.

Anyway is there any sort of interest for a CAG Tournament/League or whatever for XBL Play?

At least EA's exclusively licensed game isn't a bug ridden piece of garbage. So instead of 2 good football games, 1 great baseball game, and 2 average baseball games, we get 1 mediocre football game, 1 highly overrated baseball game, and 1 rushed out pile of $60 poop.

I think it's time for you to change the settings....I may play a fwe games at PRO just to unlock achievements. I find it boring to win with no challenge. I'm getting better and starting to dominate also....I'll switch my sliders eventually.

I'm just as frustrated, but thankfully I chose to rent went I heard about the freezing issues. They did leave an update in the 2k forums topic originally linked in about page 4 of this thread: http://www.2ksports.com/forums/showthread.php?p=691251

They state that the patch is going through compliance testing and will be available on XBL early next week.

I'd cross my fingers - but that would imply I had some glimmer of hope.

Alright!! That is great news for everyone(my brother) experiencing the freezing problem. The wait for the patch has not been to bad for me because I haven't had the freezning issue but my brother has every game. Hopefully is doesn't affect anything else in the game.

I noticed that NONE of the players in my franchise are tiring? MY pitchers fatigue will go down, but no players....anyone have any ideas?

Jesus, this game seems to freeze at the most annoying times. Took me a little while to master the hitting in this game but sure enough, on my first home run, freeze. Or how about I strike out 12 guys, freeze.

Thank God I only rented it. I seeing as only Fifa is coming out in the mean time, I guess I'll hold onto it until the end of the week, hoping for the patch.

i am so glad i bought the memory card to download Burnout cars earlier...

Yeah, I may have to get a memory card. my game was workign fine, but I started a new GM career since my players were not tiring (fatigue stayed at 100%). Now, the GM career freezes. I may have to start a franchise again to see if that will work. I always turn off the replays since that seems to screw with freezing also.

I really liek the game, but I'm becoming annoyed with them. Hopefully they get the patch soon.
