Well Verlander isn't pitching, so probably not. Maybe Suppan will be washed up and not pitch well tomorrow.

Is MLB just taking the travel day away? Or are they going to push the games back a day?

well it was obvious that carp was going to pitch a great game. he has a 1.71 era at home and is undefeated in bush. he is a stay at home pitcher and on the road he sucks. the mets proved that. i dont know if this rain delay hurts the tigers even more. it gives the cards another days rest and an unneeded rest for the tigers. it seems like the cards are getting the miracle days for them. just like the NLCS now in the WS.
 
wasn't carpenter a good pitcher on the road last year? I thought I heard him talk on espn about that after the game the other night, and he just stated it was just this year and they didn't know why he did so well at home and mediocre on the road

i totally agree, i think every team should play every other team the same number of times.(play each team 5 or 6 times each) and then that would be a LOT better, and no team could get in based on being in such a weak division like the NL east. or NL west. or NL central for that matter
 
I personally don't like the way the schedule is currently. IMO, they should drop the interleague play. I do like the more games vs teams in ones on division, but I don't like how one year the redsox will play several games vs the al west, and more vs the central teams and then flip it the next year. Espically this upcoming season where we are stuck playing the nl west, and having more games vs the al west this year. Three big roadtrips out west, and it sucks staying up to watch the games.
 
What a mess of a game....the Tigers have basically rolled over and said "Take it St. Louis". They basically gave that game away....horrible defense once again. Granderson slipping down was basically the ball game. I felt the HP Umpire was a bit off too. Calling Granderson out in the 8th on the high cruve, then not calling the pitch the next inning for Detroit....oh well. Not the umps fault though, Detroit lost that game....horrible.

Detroit will just have to repeat '68.

Paid off with two Detroit mis-cues. Both balls SHOULD have been caught. Monroe had a horrible jump, looks like he jogged then tried to make up for it. Granderson just slipped....I wonder what cleats he had on.
 
To be honest, I watched the Clemson-VT game. If the Cardinals win tonight, I don't have to hear about McCarver until July and Buck until his next Holiday Inn commercial.

Maybe it's just me, but should national announcers be calling a game for a team they work for? Buck-Cardinals, Miller-Giants?
 
I hate baseball. 6 months ago, I would not have known how to react if someone told me the Tigers would lose in the World Series. "Wait, the Tigers are gonna make the playoffs?"

Fastforward to sometime between tomorrow and Sunday: If the Tigers lose the World Series, I'm going to be pissed for the entire winter. One should be happy, but not when you lose to a team with lesser hitters, pitchers, and team in general.

Okay, fair point - but that guy plays with heart and determination. Sometimes things go your way when you work hard.

There are a lot of "better" players on the team, but I wish they all played with his attitude.

i think eckstein is the best ss for the money he gets...it is unfortunate the red sox lost him thru the rule V draft to the angels
 
Last nights numbers for the ws game were better then what fox usually puts out on thursdays, but it is done a lot from last year, which was already low.
Last night was the first night, where it was pitted up against a bunch of repeats.


game four of The World Series on Fox (Detroit vs. St. Louis) took center stage, with an 11.4/19 in the overnights from 8:30 p.m.-12:15 a.m., and an approximate 14.52 million viewers and a 4.5/12 among adults 18-49 in prime time. While that is certainly an improvement over Fox’s regularly scheduled Thursday delivery, compared to the game four match-up on Oct. 26, 2005 between The Chicago White Sox and the Houston Astros (Overnights: 14.8/24; Viewers: 19.98 million; A18-49: 6.6/18), it was also a decrease of a considerable 23 percent in the overnights, 5.46 million viewers and 32 percent among adults 18-49.

in game 1 against the mets, jeff kent and jd drew made that horrible baserunning mistake and both got out at home plate on the same play, kent should have scored easily but he went back to second base to tag up and was tagged out by a mile, and jd drew should have stayed at third base.

I dont really like the dodgers OR the mets but neither of those teams had any business being in the postseason.

how do you figure the cardinals have lesser hitters than the tigers? albert pujols is one of the best hitters to ever play the game, probably behind babe ruth, willie mays, joe dimaggio and maybe a few others, but really come on he is easily the best in baseball right now.

and chris carpenter is arguably better than any of the detroit pitchers. The tigers have more depth sure, but that doesnt really matter that much in the postseason, the 5 man rotation gets cut to a 3 or 4 man rotation.

I think the tigers had their chances last night, but flukely playes(like granderson falling down with the wet field) and zumaya walking people let to their demise. Zumaya is supposed to be one of the better relief pitchers in the majors but he hasnt looked like it in the world series.

Having the best batter in the league does not make your team a better hitting team, unless I missed the rule where Pujols can bet in every spot in the lineup. If I need to bring out statistics, I will.

You can make the argument that the pitching is better in the National League, but the argument has already been made that the National League as a whole was dominated by the AL this year (including a Tigers sweep of the Cards), so we'll just make that a wash.

As far as pitching? Please. Before the World Series (obviously), the 4-man rotation the Tigers threw out on the field every week blew away that of anyone else in the league (see team ERA).

If you wanna say they aren't that much better, that's fine, and I'd agree. But statistically, they are.

For now we can only hope that the Cards blowing a 3-1 series lead to Detroit in the '38 WS and the Cards blowing a 3-1 series lead to KC in the '85 WS will turn out to be a continuing habit of theirs.
 
besides the fact the nl is a joke for the most part, the tigers played in arguably the best division in baseball. I can't fathom the reasoning that nl pitching is better, as the majority of nl pitchers coming to the al, have their era increase by at least a run a game. Take a look at Josh Beckett, Randy Johnson, matt clement, and carl pavano for proof. Also look at clemans extremely small era pitching in the NL, compared to his era in the al in his last couple years with the yanks. The NL pitching might show good numbers, but it is usually because of the fact there is no dh, most of the nl's 2b/catchers/and ss aren't great hitters. The bottom 3 on most nl teams in the lineup are gimme outs for the most part. There are exceptions but if you take every 2b/ss/c avg in the nl and then the al, I bet the al is much higher on avg. Also saying pujols is the best is a stretch as well. There are several hitters that are in the same ballpark as him. Manny Ramirez, David Ortiz, Ryan Howard, Vlad Guerro, Derke Jeter (w/o the power) and Arod are all excellent hitters. The reason why they play the games is anything can happen on any given day. Right now everything is falling in for the cards, they are an above avg, top 8 team in the league and they are playing well and the tigers are not.

Cardinals deserve this. Tigers should be ashamed for losing to a team that had no chance to win, yet still won? Bleh.
