MLB Power Pros - Out Now! - Gamespot 8.0, IGN 8.4
Hell yeah you are. Kiss the next couple days of your life goodbye :)

Give success mode a chance. It starts off slow (at least for me it did) but gets really good. When you complete it 1 time you can put it on shortcut mode to make things quicker. It's addictive.
Shortcut mode? How do you get to that?
Has anyone been playing the season mode?

How effective is practice? Or I should say, can it make a player like David Ortiz actually run quickly with enough practice?
Practice doesn't work miracles.
Shortcut mode? How do you get to that?
After the first time you complete success mode ( you may have to win a contract, Im not sure), when you start another Success mode run, the first thing it asks you is if you want to use 'shortcut' mode, basically it eliminates all the extraneous dialogue. You only have to the read the stuff that leads to choices you have to make.

Using shortcut mode, you can finish Success mode in an hour or two.
I'm about to open my copy..

Am I going to enjoy this?
Make sure you have some extra AA batteries ready to go, thats all Im gonna say. ;)

Yeah I actually am just taking a break to change the batteries right now.. great game.

I ended up getting the last copy at a local EB on Friday night.

BB, CC, Wal-Mart, and Target didn't have it

Great game so far, I finished sucess mode last night and got a minor league contract. My guy kind of sucks, but we did almost win the championship.

My local TRU was sold out of MLB Power Pros, but the buy-2-get-1-free sale applies to their online store, too, so I ordered it there along with Parappa the Rapper and Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition. :D

You're about to get brutal.

Crank up the dethklok and bat some faces off.

Does this at all have a chance of winning the Wii Game of The Year? Any opinions? I would say that MP3 or Super Mario Galaxy probably would get most critics votes, but I find this one to be far more enjoyable than MP3. I do like the Super Mario Games so that one might be a toss up when it comes out.

No, aside from the obvious fact that MLBPP is multiplatform. ;)

I hope to find this at TRU later this week with Victorious Boxers...would be two great titles for the B2G1 sale.
No, aside from the obvious fact that MLBPP is multiplatform. ;)
What does that have to do with anything? If it is on more than 1 system it can't be named game of the year for a certain system?

So if the Orange Box came out for the PS3 this year, it couldn't win PS3 game of the year (in all likelihood it would be far and away the best ps3 game) because it was on the 360? The 360 is debateable between that, Bioshock and Halo 3.

Doesn't make sense to me but maybe that's how they do it.

Are the people you can go on dates with these people?

Becky
Annabelle (teacher's aide)

or are there others you meet by going to those parties that sometimes pop up

those are the only ones that I ran into during my playthrough
Not that Ive seen. I wish there was. If any game needed one, its this one.

I think I know what we may need to do to get a major league contract in Success mode...

If you win the College Kings tourny in your third year, you get to play the MLB Allstar team. I bet if you beat those guys, you get the Majors contract. Good luck with that tho... lol
I won my 2nd and 3rd year and now I get to play them. I think you have to win both years.
Really? I won my 3rd yr. before and didn't get to.
I lost my second year but won my third year and I went through. I had the ghost play for me two times though.

Ive now gone thru Success mode 4 times and Ive gotten the minor league contract each time. I got a few more tips for ya.

- First thing, save and quit often. It may seem like cheating to continually restart your game when things go wrong, but I think the pain of going all the way thru success mode and not gettinga contract is worse.

- As soon as you start Success mode, do nothing but study until you raise your bookworm skill to the level where you can see the Hyper gauge. This is very important for the next tip.

- Never rest until your Hyper gauge meter is in the zone. Resting without getting a Hyper gauge bonus is a huge waste. If your fatigued, buy Powerin to restore your stamina instead of resting. As the months go by, these Hyper bonus' can add up to hundreds of extra strength points.

- When you practice, do the same practice several times in a row. Say you do the strength training, the first time its +30 points, the next time its +32, the next time its +34, etc. But you cannot do anything inbetween, dont shop, dont date, dont rest, just practice.

- Save up your points and upgrade one thing all at once. If you uprage one thing, then another, the cost of the first thing will go up more than if you upgraded it all in a row. For example, with pitches, if you pick a curveball, upgrade it all the way before you buy another pitch type. If you buy the curve, then the shuto, each one becomes more expensive to upgrade. I had a level 6 Curveball before I ever got a another pitch.

- Try to win the College Kings Tourny in your third year. Winning it in the second year is great, but if you win it in your third year, you get to play an additional game, which even if you lose it (Ive never won it) you get a buttload of extra points.

Thats it for now, if I figure out anything else amazing, I'll be sure to share it here. :D

Went through Success mode today, and created a 2B that got a minor league contract :D Won the College Kings' Tournament in 2nd and 3rd year, and got spanked in the extra game 8-0.

I was more messing around with what I can do and stuff, so I don't think I optimized.

Stats:
Contact D, Power E, Trajectory 3, Run Speed B, Arm Strength E, Fielding D, Error Resist B

Also has Clutch Hit 5, Tough Out, Durability 4, Consistency 4, Base Running 4, Tough Runner
, Slap Hitter, Aggressive Stealer, Runner and Fielder.

I did get slapped with Clumsiness while doing Success... -1 Fate cards >_< Didn't have much luck with those either. Mostly Marvins and Nos, especially in situations where I wanted Yes or Challenge. >_
Argh, I can't wait to start this. But I need to play Metroid Prime 3 and Super Mario Galaxy first. :(
You need to play a game thats not even out yet first?

I just bought this game on Saturday night and man is it awesome. I am having a blast with it so far. I can't believe how DEEP it is, so many options and stats. Great game so far, actually got me to dust off my wii!!!

If you choose to do the Pi Pi Pi initiation ritual (answer "yes") you'll also meet Sarah who becomes your personal photographer, and you can date her after a few encounters with her at practice.

There's a fourth I've encountered as well, but I'll have to go home and load up my game before I can remember what the conditions were :b

Man I could care less about baseball, but I got this and am having a blast.

Success mode rocks! Back when I was younger and I'd get a new game I'd spend lots of hours in the middle of the night playing...I had not done that since this game. Lots of fun.

Got a chance to play against a friend of mine, and we had just as much fun there too. Now if only I knew all these baseball terms to get better....RBI...and well just about everything >.>

Anyone beat the MLB Superstars yet? If so, do you want to post what happens under a spoiler tag? Im getting sick of loading the saved game and trying to beat them.

Was going to pick this up at Toys R Us for the buy 2 get 1 free deal, but alas it was sold out. I'd been hoping to play a game from this series since I saw a picture of one of them from when Dreamcast was in it's prime.

No kidding! I stopped playing the other day, and checked my play time on the message board - 8 hours!

I hadn't done that since college when I'd hear the birds chirping at the end of all-night N64 GoldenEye 007 sessions.

All I've heard so far is that you just get more points afterwards.

The best I've gotten is a 1-1 tie.

If someone's on base.. I kept trying to pick them off. Works against everyone except Guerrero, Mauer and the Pitcher, as far as I can tell.

I beat them yesterday 7-5! I was soo psyched.

It was 0-0 in the third and I loaded up the bases. I singled one run home, then I hit a grand slam and was up 5-0

Then I gave up 2 runs, then 3 runs over the next 4 innings and it was 5-5. I figured the cheap comeback AI had kicked in.

Then I managed to get two more runs in the 8th, and shut the Pros out for the last 2 innings and won 7-5!

I literally started sweating while playing the game. I was on the edge of my seat, it was sooo intense. I noticed that I jerk noticably in my seat when I swing! I was playing in the bedroom late at night and I kept waking my wife up by spazzing out during the game! lol

Heres what happened when I won:
Nothing. You just get another pile of points for winning a game. I was awarded the minor league contract before the MLB Pros game, and nothing changed after I won.

BTW, the only reason I was able to win was cos I had the goggles that predict what the pitcher is gonna throw, and what pitch the batter is expecting. Whenever that Mets pitcher thought of a fastball, I switched to power hit mode. Thats how I knocked my grandslam out of the park.

Those goggles are the best item in the game imo.

Alright, you got me. Put in my order on Amazon this evening. Not baseball season anymore, but having a Wii sports game that's not Wii Sports (capitalized) will be fun. Even with the 4:3 thing and my new glorious 47" LCD.

You know, given how well this game is critically received and hopefully it sells relatively well (I know I'm not contributing but I will eventually, too many games and not enough money this October/November) I really hope they bring the DS games out here.

I'm getting my ass spoonfed to me by the Cardinals in season mode as the Cubs. I tried skipping ahead to the All-star break, but now I'm down 14.5 games. The computer won me two games out of fifteen. I'll just try to do better next season.

Just like the real Cubs. ;)

I really want to pick this up, but I couldn't justify $50 for a game that will most likely be half price by December.

...and then I found out it doesn't retail for $49.99. I'm hoping to grab this before Saturday along with a couple of PSP games at TRU.

I don't know if it will be half price by then. This thing wasn't mass produced or anything. Even if you lose half, you will definitely make it up as you will probably play it a ton.

It is yet to be seen also if this will be a yearly game or what not. If it ends up being a one time port, or a once every couple years type thing, then this probably won't lose a ton of value like normal sports games, at least for quite awhile.

I do wonder about sales for this though. When will numbers be released? I never expected Carnival Games to be #1 for the Wii, so who knows about this one. It has great reviews and word of mouth, so I would think if it sold well enough we could expect more of this type.

All I want is a more fleshed out success mode. 4 yrs at the minimum. It would be nice to continue through the minors until you get to the majors, but that would obviously mean a heck of a lot more story options for the writers.

Introduce Groupies and Slumpbusters in to the game.

Eh, I think people forget that CAG, gamers who actively search out and read reveiws, and the "hardcore" gaming community in general make up a very small percentage of the purchasing community. Look at the box art. I'm not saying I agree with it, but this thing has bargain bin written all over it.

I disagree. That's probably what you would have said about Carnival Games also. That didn't happen. I also disagree that this game is perceived as "hardcore" community game.

Well get this game to all your parents, grandparents and everyone else who you got to pick up a Wii last year after demonstrating it last Thanksgiving. If you don't show them a few games worth picking up besides Wii Sports, who will?

Carnival Games isn't a very good comparison. It actually kind of goes along with what I was pointing out--from what I can find, it's still selling like crazy despite poor reviews. The pick-up-and-play, mass-appeal mini-game compilations are a big part of what is fueling this Wii fire. On the other hand, Power Pros is getting consistently solid reviews, and probably won't move half as many units.

And I'm not saying that Power Pros is geared at "hardcore" gamers. I'm just saying that excellent games can go unnoticed simply because not everyone seeks out the same information that you and I do, and not everyone is willing to take chances on the more unconventional titles.

Don't think I'm trying to bash the game; I'm planning to pick it up this afternoon, actually. It's just going to be forgotten about by 99% of gamers before Christmas.
