MLBPA Shuts EA Out Of Video Game License With Take-Two Deal

watch ea come in and get the exclusive rights to the mlb and we'll have 2 incomplete sports games on the market
*ahem*
After the steroid scandal (can I say after yet?), which is worth more, the MLB license, of the MLBPA license?

And, for those of you who just want to stir the pot and throw your pom-poms around for exclusive contracts,(cornfedwb and death2sanity I recall being the biggest defenders of exclusivity), what would you say if EA jumps in and grabs the MLB license with a quickness before Take-Two can?

We'll have two largely incomplete baseball games competing with each other. One with no real players, and one with no real teams. Hooray for the gamer, right guys?

myke.
I wouldn't be surprised if this, in fact, happened.

myke.
We need a Minor League Baseball videogame. I'd buy one.
Backyard Baseball. All of the players are minors.

THat they have unique original thoughts unshared by any other until expressed?

IMO, I must say good for you Take-Two. Somebody should/would have done it except you guys went after the wrong sport and not the complete sport. What about the MLB license you will need. Go after basketball and you'll really be putting on the hurt, but of course keep it like a deal like this with first-party publishers being allowed to make b-ball games, just not EA. If Take-Two didn't do this now than probably EA would have. Look at it this way, they already have NFL, AFL, Nascar, PGA, tried for basketball (don't forget about this), and FIFA. In all likelyhood this license probably was on their hitlist and again, I must reiterate that I thougth Segas 2k line this year was the best yet and IMHO even the baseball was better than EA's.

Well, I was going to say that they know what to prepare for dinner, but I think you may be onto something.

The NBA is looking to give an exclusive license for sim games and arcade basketball games. I'd like to have Take-Two get the sim license and EA get the arcade license. That'd work out nice.
Maybe. Doesn't Midway make NBA Ballers? They might be opposed to such a split.
Yeah, but they haven't done much of anything about any of the other license deals.
So this just means EA's baseball games will be published by the respective platform companies. Microsoft has already killed their own inhouse devlopment for this sport along with several others, so it wouldn't be a big deal for them to make a deal with EA to get around the licensing issue. Overall this has much less value than the NFL deal.
But doesn't the MLB decide whether they will give the rights to player names, stadiums, teams, and everything else? They could just deny the rights to the EA made game if they wanted to. Maybe some other legal matters are involved, but I don't see why MLB would be forced to let EA do that.

I do not want any exclusive rights to sports be given off. I don't think this is justifiable, and I will probally not be buying a MLB game from Take Two. :(
