This does not make any sense to me. Are they not already doing these shows with their Ultimate Fight Nights such as tonight.

On a side note, I'm glad I checked this thread because I swore to myself that the fight night and ultimate fighter premiere were on Thursday.
SpikeTV is a cable channel. Network television means CBS, ABC, NBC, CW. It may not seem like a big deal, but there are still people who don't have cable or may just not get SpikeTV. But everybody gets network television. Plus, they could have events following shows like Survivor or LOST and really have a chance to bring in a new audience.

Watching WEC - Miguel Torres got knocked the fuck out. Something tells me though, with a 36-2 record he has the stuff to get the belt back.

Does anyone know why WEC seems to only be light and bantam weights?

(Can't wait to see Cerrone beat Henderson)

Because that's what weight classes they have. It's owned by the same company that owns the UFC (Zuffa). The UFC does not have those lower weight classes. If they did, they would be competing with themselves.

That had to be one of the bloodiest and boring fights I have ever seen. It was basically a hug fest on the mat because Goliath didn't know who to wrestle against David. Rampage pretty much gave up on coaching when the little guy took down Goliath for the 100th time by the same tactic.

Wow is an understatement TUF was awesome!
The guy who was bleeding everywhere had really bad ground game and shows that you need fight smarts not book smarts. Also what an idiot how John was able to keep taking him down with the same move over and over and to top it off gets the hand-tap takedown. I
I hope Rampage gets a game opponent for Kimbo since we all know thats who's fighting next since he's now lost control of the fights except for the next one. Hopefully they'll work on his takedown defense since its obvious thats what the other contestants are going to try and exploit.

I'm officially scarred for life when they showed the cut at the end. Just a little disturbing..

First TUF show I've seen, definitely won't miss another.

have to say tuf was more bloody then the horror movie i saw tonight (deadgirl). awesome episode. Rampage is pretty damn hysterical and hopefully stays that way throughout the season. Highly looking forward to the next episode & its gonna be subscribed on tivo.
Seeing all the blood at the end of round 1 was pretty disturbing. Did the doc say he could see the guy's skull at the end?
Pretty much man, it was pretty fucking cool. I wonder why rampage got so damn mad in the preview for the rest of the season?

Thoughts on TUF 10 episode 1: Wes Sims is annoying, but hillarious. His remark about beating Frank Mir twice is completely false. He did say he doesn't let the truth get in the way of a good story though... I like how he wanted to stand next to Kimbo in the front of the line when he was picked for team Rampage.

Talk about a terrible and bloody first fight. The smaller wrestler dude could've easly ended the match early with renlentless ground and pound but he decided to land powerful shots in spaced out bursts. The guy with the deep cut did absolutely nothing but hold onto the opponent's head. The ref didn't even start making stand ups unitl round 2. Steve Mazagatti is my least liked ref.

I was really surprised they didn't call the fight from the blood. I've never seen a fight that messy before.

I'm watching TUF season 2 right now. Kinda funny seeing Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine all nervous about being kicked out before they even get to fight.

Double post - nobody cares about season 2 talk but I'm late to the game so here goes ..

Interesting to see how seriously Rich and Matt took picking the teams. They went for three or four days and even crashed the house just to spy on the guys and see who was drinking and going to bed early. With season 10 it seems like Rampage just randomly picked people and didn't really give a shit who was on his team or who they fought.

Also, kinda funny to see that pretty much everyone from Rich's team went on to be famous in the UFC whereas the only person I can identify from Matt's team is Joe Stevenson. I wonder if that has anything to do with the training or it was just luck of the draw.
I think Wes Sims has ADD, judging by his breakdown at UFC43 and comments/demeanor.

Just found this blog posting by Abe Wagner in which he recaps the episode and gives his thoughts on his loss. http://news.fightmagazine.com/abe-wagners-tuf-10-blog-my-wrestling-needed-work-1375/
My diagnosis was that his mother smoked during her pregnancy, and as a result, he's mildly retarded. Either one fits though.

As for Wagner, one of the biggest assets an MMA fighter can have is a firm grip on reality. If you suck on the ground and are going up against a good wrestler, actually try to not be taken down so easily, and when you do go down, stop trying to get back up the entire fucking fight. Yeah, maybe you give it a shot in the first round, just to see how good he actually is.

But once he's proven he can take you down and keep you there, 1. go on the defensive and at least give yourself a chance of defending the takedown. And 2. If/when he does get you down, HOLD ON FOR DEAR LIFE AND WAIT FOR A STAND UP. You're not going to get back to your feet. Stop wasting your fucking energy trying. For a mechanical engineer, he didn't seem to be very smart. I know the cut took a lot out of him (literally), but if it's preventing you from having any kind of strategy, just give up.

Clearly, he wasn't as good as Rampage thought he was, but Madsen didn't look incredible. As others have said, he could have stopped that fight if he had just launched a barrage of punches as he was looming over Wagner and his sea of blood. It kinda sucks that no matter what happens next week, Rashad gets to pick the 3rd fight. I don't really like that set up.

wagner is doing a weekly blog for each episode on fightmagazine.com
he doesnt have a firm grip on reality imo. he did say hes worked consistently on his wrestling since the show. he also mentions that he told rampage his wrestling wasnt good and he had trouble with wrestlers. he tates in the blog that rampage said madsens wrestling wasnt goo so he didnt have to worry. wagner then says madsen was a 2-time national champion wrestler.
im sure theres some truth to that but it came off as a passing of his responsibilty for the performance which is weak.

I do think that Dana should have gone out of his way to even the teams in terms of coaching, Greg Jackson is doing the work not Rashad.

See, that's the thing. Regardless of who my coach is, I'm going to do my own personal scouting on the guy I'm about to get in the cage with. So, Rampage says "Don't worry...he's not THAT good of a wrestler." and Wagner just says "cool"?

Even as dumb as that sounds...has he ever watched MMA before? ANY fighter who's not good on the ground will get dominated by a fighter with even a small wrestling background...unless he guards the shot and stays the hell away from him. Wagner didn't even try to do that. I'd wager that even freaking Kimbo Slice has a better sprawl than him.

I loved hearing him say "I'm going to keep training. If somebody gets hurt, I could get another chance." Or at least I think that's what he said. It was hard to focus without staring into the vortex that was his gigantic cut that's going to take at least 4 months to heal and will leave him with a horrific scar, leading people to ask if he was in a car accident. But yeah, maybe he'll get another chance.

Oh, anyone else think Roger Huerta got the shaft in that fight with Maynard? I had him winning 29-28 (as did one of the judges). I can see possibly giving Maynard a 29-28 win, albeit a very close one, but no way in hell he won round one, yet two judges called it 30-27. I have a feeling that if that wasn't Roger's last fight in the UFC, the result would have been different

judges are employees of the athletic commission and have no affiliation with the ufc.

well under the circumstance theres not much personal scouting to be done, its not like they can watch tape on the guys.
but yeah wagner is delusional. you dont throw a kick like that when youre getting taken done again and again.

I know that, but that doesn't explain some of the decisions that have happened over the years. Look at Bisping vs Hamil for example. Hamil clearly wins, but Michael is the golden boy and it was in England and he gets the win.

I'm not saying that the UFC influences the judges, I just think that there are numerous judges who do a very poor job.

With judges they aren't able to see the TV angles like we do, but that aside while Huerta was a game opponent and survived Maynard's near sub but never did anything to respond before the final bell.

Man some of the product placement in TUF 2 is cringe worthy.

"Hey man what are you doing there?"
"Me? Just putting on some of my Right Guard Extreme"
"Cool"
"What about you? What are you drinking there?"
"Oh its Xyience Energy drink"
"Is it the 452 balanced formula or the 320 endurance?"
"The endurance"
"Sweet .. lets go play Blitz the League for the Xbox"

Yeah, but if you couldn't tell, it was done in a joking way...like in Wayne's World. Obviously, they get free stuff, and they want to thank the companies for it. But it's not like that was a serious sell or anything.

Rampage is kinda dumb and is going to get his whole set owned bad.

I know I would be begging for Greg Jackson as a trainer.

Kimbo will probably get matched up with someone that will clinch him up against a cage and perhaps take him down for a GNP victory.
