I have been watching "Gundam SEED Destiny", and it is a really cool show (even though I haven't seen Gundam SEED).

I would like to purchase the original series, Mobile Suit Gundam.

I looked at some prices, and it apears to come in 10 different DVD sets (43 episodes), cheapest being $11.99 each. That is a total of about $120 for the set, almost $3 per episode or 11 cents per minute.

Is there any cheaper price, or maybe a complete box set?

It doesn't have to be in english as long as it has english subtitles.

Thanks.

You should watch some 0079 first.
0079 is not exactly the same as SEED, or Wing, or most of the newer shows. The pacing and such are much different in the older Gundam series than they are in the newer ones.

Of course, in 0079, you do get to see Char Azanable, who ends up being "copied" in just about every other series/universe.

Don't Forget Zeta Gundam Box Se MSRP $199.99 is released this week (10 DVD's, 10 Limited Figures, LE ARtbox plus extra) for $133.99 at Bestbuy.com. If you have chance to pickup while you can cuz is OUT OF PRINT very soon :)

How can they compress 43 episodes into 3 movies?

Because it's tighter and more coherent.

It's still over seven hours I think in the three movies. Which is the equivelent of thirteen to fourteen episodes.

To quote Animeondvd, "While movies that simply retell a TV series usually fall flat, the Mobile Suit Gundam movies retain the epic feel and depth of characters of the original TV series, often surpassing the original series in excitement and drama."

It's ok, but I really like the UC timeline stuff better.

You may want to try buying used off ebay , I know I bought mine for about 45 shipped a year ago. Otherwise the movies are the way to go.

Do NOT buy the R1 DVD releases of Mobile Suit Gundam and Zeta Gundam.

The R1 DVD release of Mobile Suit Gundam TV series (42 episodes) are seriously screwed with in the following ways:

- complete lack of Japanese original dialog, English dub ONLY

- completely redone sound effects that sound nothing like the original. This includes ridiculous sound effects where a shell-firing gun sounds like a beam gun being fired, and vice versa. The Zakus lost their trademark mechanical noise and now sound like a roller coaster grinding uphill via chainlinks, etc.

- removal of episode 15, voted by Gundam fans as one of the best 10 episodes (from a recent Gundam Ace magazine poll)

I don't usually advocate people to buy the region 0 "HK DVDs" but in this instance, the boot is actually superior to the official region 1 DVD release.

If you don't wanna buy boots, then go with the Mobile Suit Gundam movie trilogy instead. At lesat that version still has the Japanese original track, and you are not missing out too much on the story itself.

Zeta Gundam was also fucked with - they replaced the opening and ending songs with background music from the show instead, because they didn't feel like paying the songwriter to license the songs.

As long as the majority of the actual show is uncut, I can live with that. I'd just FF through the opening anyway after one viewing.

I am looking at it on ebay.

Is the Japanese version of the original series 43 episodes on 10 DVDs between 2 box sets?

It's on ebay for about $2, with $36 shipping.

$38 seems good.

Pretty sweet, as long as you get what you paid for.

The English sub may be horrid since it's a HK bootleg, though, but the Chinese sub on it is usually on the money, for those who can read it.
