Mod Chip On, Xbox Live Off -- Permanently

there's an option in the dashboard that will let you input a code to sign on to Live. Turn it on

for now on the system wont go Live unless you input the code (button presses)
Uh...no.
uh...yes

Dashboard -> Settings -> Auto Sign-IN -> Disable it
log into Live -> Account Settings -> Passcode -> enter a passcode

there, you've disabled auto log-in AND required a passcode to log in with your account

I know of 3 ways to get banned from live--

1. Signing in to live with your chip on.

2. Putting in a new hard drive after you have signed up for an account on your old one.

3. I've heard that there are games that automatically sign you in, which could trick you, but I have yet to actually see one do this or even see specific names of games that do it.

So it's gotta be one of those...and I don't think changing your EEPROM works anymore...As far as having your cable plugged in-- I got my box modded and put in a new harddrive, then got live and I have my ethernet cable plugged in all the time-- about 8 months later i'm still on live.

(No, it's not modded for legit reasons, i steal games, but i don't fuckin' care, I paid my dues to the game industry by only buyng new for every generation since the 2600. Now I have a "try before I buy" policy, since there is a lot of crap out there.)

but go check out forums.xbox-scene.com and the Xbox live forum, they've got some good info there, but i'd bet that you just need to get a new box.

 Sorry, I didn't understand your post at all--now I do. Just a dumbass moment for me. :D

Again, I want to thank everyone for their advice. I've been too busy at the mo to remedy the situation, but I do appreciate hearing about the options.

I just bought a new Xbox today, figuring what the hell. I had $154 in trade credit from GameRush -- just enough to pick one up. I kind of wanted one of the limited edition Canadian ones (crystal ice or blue), but I'm too cheap-ass for that.

Thanks again everyone for your help. I figured buying a new one is safer than risking making the same mistake again.

@ViolentLee Buying a new EEPROM will work, but you also must get a new hdd, and can not switch those ever or you will get banned again, the reason for this is that MS creates a Marriage btween your HDD's Serial Number and the EEPROM, thats what I did to get on XBL. I love it I have a 80gb hdd in my xbox, and can play games off the hdd and still use XBL.

ESPN NFL 2K5 auto signs me in.
CheapAss solution: Pull the cable out of the XBox.
Doesn't make a difference to me, even though I know you aren't talking to me. People that don't use mods and do things the right way don't deal with these sorts of problems. Period.

I read it and I'm not convinced. When talking about modding, a large chunk of it is illegal and involves pirating games. Why else would topics on modding be deleted immediately if it were so innocent?

To appease the advertisers.

Its perfectly legal to mod your Xbox, and there are perfectly legal uses for it. Such as ViolentLee here, or running homebrew code, or running Linux. CD burners can be used to make illegal copies of things, does that mean they should be illegal too? Its a slippery slope, when you start calling things illegal just because they can be used for illegal things.

Your Xbox is your property, you can do whatever you want to it. You can saw it in half if you like. MS can restrict you from using Live, which is their right, its their service. But no one can say that you can't mod your Xbox.

I've been ban at least twice, go to Xbox-scene.com and just search for it.

I hardly ever play any games on my xboxes, e.i. read this forum, linux, No region DVDs, the ultra awesome, totally free, XBOX MEDIA CENTER.

XBMC is a great application, I used to use it all the time until I got a videocard with TV out. I might start using it again in another room that isn't close to a computer.
