Model 2 Sega Genesis Problem

I recently purchased a Model 2 Sega Genesis from my local hobby shop along with a couple games. After giving it a good cleaning with a damp rag, I hooked it up. Immediately I noticed the games did not work. I checked out the cartridges and while some were in bad shape, some looked brand new. I took one that was in great shape (NHL 97) but still could not get the game to start. I then noticed that when I inserted the game (here is the prob - sorry for the backstory), I could wiggle it around. I have an SNES and when you insert a game in that, it is solid. Apparently that was why the games where not loading, because somehow the cart was not making a good connection. I found that if I pushed the game all the way back, it would work. My question is - is this a problem with all Model 2 Genesis or just mine. The guy I bought it from had a model 1 and I was thinking of exchanging them.
THANKS

Oh and on a side note could you list a few of the must have Genesis titles?

My Genesis 2 is from 1992-1993, I've taken great care of it, but if I knock the cart while the system is on it will freeze.

Some great titles:
Vectorman
Earthworm Jim
Shinobi
Golden Axe

Well, its difficult to actually see what degree of "looseness" that you mean, pertaining to the gen 2.

From, buying, resellig/repairing dozens of systems, including mod 2.

From my exp, I have not found a common flaw, that would discribe your error.

However the system can be easy to "freeze" if it is banged.

I'd say switch it for the model 1 if it's a pain to get it to play -- they all work the same from my experience.

and for games, i'd definitely recommend toejam and earl, pirates! gold, streets of rage 2+3, and rock n roll racing

id say the model 1 has more problems reading than model 2, with both of them u jes have to push the cart down as much as u can both sides

Hmmm.... The Genny has always had the problem of freezing carts if you bump the system or the cart. The Genny you bought is probably working correctly; it is sometimes a hassle to get the cart to fit correctly.

My picks: Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, any Sonic game, especially 2, 3, and Knuckles, Boogerman, B.O.B., that game... I think it's called adventures of Sparkster or something.. eh I forgot.. Comix Zone, Vectorman, Earthworm Jim, Virtua Fighter (if you have a PS2, just skip it and play VF4:Evo instead)... That's all I can think of...

Sweet
Thanks for all the posts - especially the link to the other forum.
I had a SNES when I was a kid, but I always wanted a Genesis.
Only took me 10 years but I finally got one. I was checking out EBs 15-50.... I thought I was going to get a good deal if I just picked out all six dollar titles. Then I realized that you have to pick from a list of games that suck. It might take a while, but Ill get my collection of must haves.
