went over to a local pawn shop around chicago and see some batman dvds collections i would loved to get. So i waited in line and someone was trading in a game system with around 20 games and 4 controllers. they offered the dude 120 bucks and the dude took it. After the dude left instead of waiting on the next customer the worker picks up the phone and must of called one of his friends cause you heard him say

Man you should see what i got today, some idoit just sold me a ps2 with 20 games for 120 bucks.... Ect ect ect yea im going to take it over to eb tonight and probally get twice or three times more then i paid this idoit and hangs up the phone. (im shocked the dude didnt get fired cause the main boss was standing right there next to him when he was saying this, and im sure they are not allowed to buy stuff away from the store) I walk up and ask how much for the Batman dvd sets and they go 49.99 and i was like I Can get those NEw for that price and walked out...

i thought it was rude calling someone a freaking idoit just cause they are hurting for money and have to sell a system for cheap

i was shocked they took 120 if i had cash in my pocket i would of offered more.. they had the older Fat PS2 but they had 4 Wireless controllers

Was this the one on Milwaukee ave in Wicker park? That would explain why they've had a shortage of games recently

Pawn shop employees usually get first pick on merchandise just sold to the store... they usually get it at just above cost too.... one of the perks of being an underpaid employee :)

Yeah, that's a great tactic in a location where there are probably several loaded guns behind the counter. I'm being dramatic, but if you tried to pull that shit they'd probably tell you not very politely to get the fuck out and never come back. A bit different from having the squeaky voiced 16-year-old kid at EB ask you to take it outside.

A pawnshop have to hold your shit for X amount of days before they can sell it. Since in effect the act is like a mini loan. If that douche did sell that guys stuff prematurely then one of these two cases may occur:

1. Guy comes back to get his stuff... its not there, pawnshop is liable for the goods
2. The kid was infact selling his stuff, in which case, he SHOULD have took it to EB, GS or at least got some quotes over the for offers on these goods.

and for those that doubt how a pawn shop works: http://money.howstuffworks.com/pawnshop1.htm

Let's bare in mind those crappy little pawn shops have to make a few bucks too! After all, they do not always make such good purchases. I for one abuse the #@!% out of them. So I'm glad they can take advantage of someone, otherwise where would I get a decent amount of cash for worthless outdated electronics? I'm just glad the shop owners in my area are too incompetent to do any research about the products they pay good money for.

no one at the pawn shops i go to don't care too much about video games and they see me 2-3 times a week getting stuff.. like just today i got san andreas for the PS2 for 10 bucks.. i just wish someone would go trade in a bunch of old xbox stuff so i can fill out my xbox collection.

3. The system and games were stolen and would take anything anyone offered him.

Wasn't there a case in FL a while back about some kid getting his videogames stolen and it was sold to EB or GS, don't remember. Anyway, the police tracked it down to the store but it turns out the store had already sold a lot of the kid's stuff and wouldn't replace it for him?

Well given you didn't mention exactly what the kid sold , for all we know they were a bunch of POX titles lol...at a whopping .25 to .99 cent trade value...and it probably didn't read blue discs lol , perhaps the guy wasnt such an idoit ;)
