Went back to look for the missing SNES adapter . . . no luck but I found
Bubsy II (SNES)
Great Circus Mystery . . . Disney . . . (SNES)

They weren't marked so the clerk sold them to me for .49 each.

8/26
Today I found $2 N64 games at Value Village . . . but Friday is 50% off so all were $1
Mario Kart 64
Road Rage 64
Glover
Turok 2
Vigilante 8 2nd Offense

Jurassic Park ($2 SNES) kinda beat up and would have passed but I have a box and instructions for it . . . so I have it complete

also Goldeneye 64 players guide for .20

Came up empty at Goodwill but saw a 3do system. Was $10 . . . I plugged it in and it powered up (drive opened) but had nothing with it . . . looking some more, I saw 3do controllers in a bag with a NES system . . . considered reuniting them and buying it. But I don't need another system . . . passed and of course now I regret it.

Three days ago . . . $2.99 each . . .

Donkey Kong Country
DKC 2!
DKC 3!!
Toy Story
Uniracers (always wanted to play this)
Super Empire Strikes Back (found Super Star Wars some time ago, now need Jedi)
Tetris Attack (aren't people hot for this one in the EB update?)

Also a SNES Game Genie (anyone looking for one)
and a 99 cent Contra for NES

One nice thing is that I found a bunch of SNES boxes with instructions but no games at a Salvation Army store months ago and the worker let me have them for free. So, for $3 I have a complete DKC 2.

Update 2 days ago

Hit another Goodwill today on my way back from picking up Ndogs preoder (on 27th Street on Milwaukee's southside . . .

Saw a bunch of games in a display case as I walked up and found someone dumped their RPG collection . . . couldn't see prices but was hoping for $2 each and was disappointed to pay $3.99 each but I found . . .

Lufia Fortress of Doom
Breath of Fire
Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (bites but I didn't want to break up the set).
Final Fantasy II
Final Fantasy III

Very nice! I left behind Zelda, Starfox and a few others.

UPDATE yesterday at Salvatation Army store

SNES mini system (model 2) looking like new with one new looking controller.

$4.99!

Looks like this

Searched the store for the power adapter . . . AV hookup is no problem, I have an extra I don't use from my GC . . . cool looking and not yellowed like my original.

excellent haul!!...At least you found a very nice batch that if you wanted could easily fetch much more then the paid price...Dk 2, and 3 especially...not so easy to come by anymore

Tetris Attack I love, really even the Pokemon Panel de Pon incarnation is great!

Uniracers I loved as well, hoping I can download it for revolution.
Cool. I should go check out my local Goodwill store that is a few blocks away.
You an find some real gems at goodwill.

OK, then go three times a week like I do and you'll get a score like this every few months.

Usually, I get a few cheap books or toys for my kids.

I started digging at games in this bin . . . first saw a few NES games (left a Mario 3 for someone) and some PS1 games but nothing good (Ridge Racer, Mortal Kombat Trilogy but really messed up looking anyway) . . . then I spotted SNES games and my heart went pitter-patter . . . "please a FFIII or Chronotrigger" but was pleasantly surprised to get 6 games I don't have.

As I was digging these out, 2 separate guys came checking out the other games . . . like chum in the water!

Classic games don't last for a day at my GW!

I'll go check it out tomorrow. Don't they jack up prices though. Since its a "retail store" ?

Meh , $2.99 is goog ;) Haha I wish I could find a CTRIGGER.... w00tness indeed.

Nice grabs! I was at a goodwill over the weekend up in Wis. and scored Starfox, Street Fighter 2 Turbo, Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3, and Super Mario All-Stars, for $1 a piece, I wish I could find a Goodwill close to Chicago though.

Excellent the SNES games are a bit more in circulation these days. Which city were you in?

For Christmas last year, I bought my two best friends a SNES and a Genesis respectively. They both complain about how much better games were "back in the day", so I did a massive hunt for both the systems and their old favorite games. I wound up picking up a used SNES system at Goodwill for $5.00. It works great, but it was so yellow (from age? being set in the sun? I dare not guess why else) that I seriously thought it was a bootleg version or something! Worked perfectly though, so I gave my GRAY system to my buddy and kept the yellow one for myself. Still plays A1.

Oh, and I should note that after giving them the system, I didn't give them the good games immediately. Instead, I gave them the WORST game I could find for each system: SHAQ FU~! for the Genesis, and Bebe's Kids for the SNES (which may be the worst game this side of White Men Can't Jump on the Jag) to show them that the good old days weren't always so good.

After forcing them to play those, I gave them the motherload, and I swear I thought they were both going to start crying. Way cool.

That's an excellent deed . . . deepening the respect for the history of gaming and doing something out of the ordinary as well. Anybody can give Halo 2 as a gift but you did something unique and highly memorable.

I've never really seen any good gaming stuff at goodwill. It is ususally sports games. I've seen a genesis at one, but I left it since we already have one. That's the only console I've seen there in a while. Another one has a n64 dex drive for $5. We have one of those, too. I just wish I could find a ps1 dex drive.

The only other thrift store in town can over price stuff. They want $20 an Odyessy 2 and then $3 for each game. There's like 20 games. If it wasn't so expensive, I'd pick it up. The console still has the original box and all the games have their boxes too.

You're lucky that you can find that stuff at your goodwill. It also sucks that I haven't been able to find a pawn shop in the are that still buys or sells old game stuff.

pawn shops here won't buy anything pre-64.. but when they come across old stuff they call me.. about once a month i go and check things out.. but

great find OP have fun with all those games (i hope you're not one to resale, or hoard to resale).. either way yeah that SNES tetris Attack is the one that people are going crazy for in the EB thread

I don't know what I will do with all of them . . . may keep, or trade, or sell in time. The hunting for them is part of the fun . . . but I left behind some games for others to find. They had an SNES system ($20) and I left that for someone who is searching for one.

I've played some of the Tetris Attack . . . pretty good game.

Yeah I used to rotate to the goodwills I would go to on a daily basis on my lunch hour from work. It turned out some real gems.

I found an old ulitma IV? cant remember for the PC complete with Ank and cloth map.. Picked it up for $5. Threw it on ebay and it fetched $180... I just about crapped... I normally dont sell the stuff but wasnt going to sit on this particular game.

Either way that bought me my DS and its rare i find any systems. Although I did find a Nes thats going to my little sister (shes 5). i am trying to raise her on the real games. Eventually I will get her into the Atari I grew up on.

Anyway good finds. The most recent i found was Daggerfall for PC complete. Its hard as heck to come by and my copy was missing the box. So now I am happy. I also found it in a basket that was yet to be put out.

I personally think the volunteers keep the good stuff back for themselves...

I personally don't have a problem with people making money off games.

I wonder about people keeping stuff in back . . . they're not supposed to. But like game store employees, it has to be tempting.

I figured the game worth $10 or something. I personally collect older PC games and it looked interesting... After I thought about it I decided to sell it and as I said I never imagined it would fetch $180.

Because of this thread I stopped by a local goodwill. I havent done that but once in the last 6 months. Found a complete nEs system all hookups, 2 controllers, joystick and gun.. Plus official NES storage case for $9.99.

Its a little more than a garage sale score but the case makes it worth it.

I usually find sports games as well. This leads me to believe that someone who works at good will is taking all the good games.

Thanks - they really liked it. It was a lot of fun for me, because it gave me an excuse to basically scour the city to find any old games as cheaply as I could. I also had a lot of fun trying to find the absolute WORST game I could, and it was great, because my buddy had said, "The PS2 is ok and all, but there are so many bad games. There were NO bad games on the SNES." You should have seen him trying to play through a round of Bebe's Kids before I finally let him off the hook!

I volunteered at a Thrift Store for a few months in my youth (read: Community Service Hours). In Omaha, we've got tons of them, and they're all run/employed by 2 different kinds of people: Old Ladies and Newly Immigrated. Aside from that, there's a few teenage girls & petty criminals, but there's definitely not the CAG type, or even gamers at all, unless we're counting Mahjongg.

It was like a sweat shop in the back, with a rooms FULL of clothes and about 6 old ladies who have to wash, sort, and price everything, and no ones allowed in other than them. Overall, I'd have to say if anything's stored in the back for employees, it's a slightly used sweet bike with a basket for $10.

You're getting really lucky. I check the 3 thrift store around here and I've never found anything worth buying. I can remember every game related thing I have ever seen: Blades of Steel, Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt, old genesis madden game, DC controller (7.50), turquoise N64, and a bare playstation. None of them were good deals like you have been finding. I do remember a long time ago one had a Nintendo TV stand from the 80's that I wanted, but I had no money. It was nice too, it held probably a 19 inch tv, had Mario on it and the Nintendo logo. If I could only go back in time.

Thrift stores are really hit or miss. You've got to go regularly (as they put "new" stuff out on the shelves all the time) to find anything, but anything really good usually gets snatched up pretty quickly. For example, I picked up a beautiful SNES 2 system (no cords, controllers, etc.) a couple of years ago for $4.

I've been to a couple, but been unlucky as well. The closest game related thing I found once was a controller for a Virtual Boy :(

my goodwill has outrageous prices
30 for a beat up genesis system
20 for 5 old genesis sports games and you have to buy all 5 for 20 in one lot

I find just enough stuff to make me keep going back.

But I can go many trips without finding anything. But then I'll get something like a $5 white GC memory card that works (Target return).

I mapped out a huge lot of Resale shops I'm hitting up tomorrow. Have about 7 or 8, hopefully I can find some good old school games, would really love another snes. Btw I also have 3 pawn shops on the list to hit, but are they really even worth the effort??

Pawn's are definitely worth it, I've made some GREAT scores there. Mercenaries for $10, Rez for $10, and great DC games for $2 each!

i went by two Goodwills friday, no luck at either. the first one i went to though, they had sold a complet NES with joystick and gun and everything for $6. i was so pissed off.

All the Thrift/Second Hand shops in my area absolutely stink. Anything interesting or electronic always gets auctioned off on ebay or their own respective places and thus I never find such good stuff. How I wish for days where I could just find something cool instead of clothing and furniture. Though I could use a cheap couch.

Cheapy - Do you know of any decent SecondHand shops in the city? I'd be willing to look around myself, but I only know the local storescape that I pass during my commute.

In my experience (over 10 years ago) NYC was tough to find things in resale shops because of the volume of people.

The biggest Goodwill I've been in is in Milwaukee . . . but you can hardly find a deal because other cheapies scour it all the time.
