MORE than a million Wiis at launch in NA.

CAGiversary!
From IGN:

"A number of outlets have reported a misstatement about the number of Wii consoles that will be available in the Americas during the launch rollout. In fact, the truth is even better. After the Americas lead the worldwide launch on Nov. 19, Nintendo expects to sell 4 million Wii consoles globally by the end of 2006, with the largest allotment available in the Americas. Although we expect a huge demand for the consoles, we are working to ensure a plentiful supply and a consistent flow."

Thats from Nintendo. Nice. Noone should have a problem finding one on launch day now.

They've learned. They can't afford to have a shortage. Think of how much better the 360 could've done with units in stores during the alunch window? At some point gaming-conumers started opting to wait and see what Sony and Nintendo brough to the table before jumping into the next gen. Nintendo doesn't want empty shelves where systems should be.

That being said, 4 million systems globally at Christmas time is still going to cause a shortage. There's really no escaping it, but hopefully there will only be waits of days rather than months to get more in.
Read. Those were rumors, this is from Nintendo heads saying we are getting MORE than that.
"We’re hoping if you’re already an Xbox 360 owner and you want a new experience, that you’ll pick up a Wii this Christmas or maybe next year. If you’ve never played before, we think that this may get you hooked on video games. We’re looking at a million (units) for North America at launch. When Sony came out (with their PS3 announcement), they said 300,000. If we get what we’re supposed to get, this will be our most plentiful launch in the 15 years I’ve been at Nintendo. All signs are actually extremely positive.”

better yet, taken from the other thread that has nearly this exact same name.
[UPDATE] Nintendo of America has responded to various reports claiming that Bertram's figures were fact. Apparently, the final tally for Wiis designated for the North American launch may be even greater than a million, according to a cryptic statement from the company.

Says Nintendo: "A number of outlets have reported a misstatement about the number of Wii consoles that will be available in the Americas during the launch rollout. In fact, the truth is even better. We don't need two threads on this.

Yeah why don't you even read what you fucking said dumbass.

The quote you have is 4 million Wii's EVERYWHERE by DECEMBER 31ST! How does that equal comfirmation of more than a million at launch for North America?

Can someone find a dumbass newbie smilie?

I'll just use the old...
:newbie:

I figured that a more official number for US Wii's as opposed to a guess by a Canada Nintendo rep was deserving of it's own thread. Sorry.

Omg the internet is running out of space, we have no room for an occasional duplicate thread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! KILL KILL KILL
