Mortal Kombat: Armegeddon now $19.99 at EB/Gamestop (PS2 / Xbox)
what's so special about the UMK 3 is it the arcade version? Not a huge MK fan but, I remember playing it back on Saturn/PS one back in the days just not that fun.
Well to tell you the truth I like MK2 and MK3 more but UMK3 was one of the last 2D MK's... it has a bunch of characters/fatalities/extra finishers/combos... it's a pretty good game.

was oos for the Xbox for a while, when i saw it was back in stock i jumped onit. No im not buying it for story, but i am buying it because it's basically MKT2 and it's backwards compat on my 360

However UMK3 has by far the most balanced gameplay in the series. That honor could have gone to MK Trilogy, but the overpowering brokenness of Noob Saibot and Rain (and the inclusion of the bosses) spoiled it.

Picked it up with a 20% off coupon from GameCrazy, 11.99 used. (before anyone asks, teh 20% coupon was on a sheet you got if you bought a system with GC in December)

Works for me.

Yeah, playable bosses never help to balance out a fighting game. Now I know Noob (and to a lesser extent, Jade) were crazy overpowered, but what was the deal with Rain? I don't remember him being all that popular.

As for MK:A, I'd say pick it up only if you're a fan of MK. Otherwise, grab Deception first. It's a nice jumping in point, has a nice pool of fighters, three minigames that don't suck and most importantly, it's cheaper.

I got a used copy of the Collector's Edition for $17, plus with a used game coupon and my discount card, it was $15. I really like it. The Kreate-A-Fighter isn't as in-depth as I hoped, but still fun. Kustom Fatalities are nice as well. Too bad the kreated fighters can't do as many kustom fatalities as the normal characters. The load times are a little long.

Anybody know if the Xbox version's loading is a lot faster?

If the timing of that combo wasn't so tricky he'd probably be ranked #1. There's a good thread about the MK Trilogy tier list here: http://ultimatemk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=162&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

They rank the MKT characters as follows:

1. Noob Saibot
2. Rain
3. Kabal
4. Human Smoke
5. MK2 Kung Lao
6. Baraka
7. Kung Lao (1 spin per combo limit brings him down out of relative UMK3 placement amongst the new characters but movement during spin keeps him high)
8. Kano
9. Reptile
10. Ermac
11. Nightwolf
12. MK2 Jax
13. Robot smoke
14. Scorpion (forward teleport punch brings him up)
15. Sindel
16. Jax
17. Raiden
18. Sonya
19. Kitana
20. MK1 Raiden
21. Stryker
22. Sektor
23. Unmasked Sub-zero
24. Jade
25. Liu Kang
26. Classic Sub-zero
27. Cyrax
28. Shang Tsung
29. Mileena
30. MK1 Kano
31. Johnny Cage
32. Sheeva

If you include the bosses they would be ranked 1) Shao Kahn, 2) Kintaro, 3) Goro, 4)Motaro, all above Noob Saibot.

Every time I know MKT was not put on the XBLA, I die a little inside.

man... MKT online with some balancing tweaks would be a dream.

I know some people who are working on an independent "UMKT" game though, and it's looking to be absolutlely stellar. Not unlike the MUGEN game in your sig, guyver, but this one has some of the greatest minds in the MK community working on it, and it's being built from scratch. Still in very early stages, but it is going to be colossal when it's ready.
