Most Difficult Games?

I'm tired of all these next-gen games being just so easy. I remember the good old days when I could quietly cry myself to sleep in frustration. So please, do tell of some hair pulling difficult games. I always thought the old Megaman games were somewhat hard, especially the floating block parts.

I hate hard games, nothing worse than paying $50+ for something I can't beat or don't have the time to master and beat. I'm all for selectable difficulty levels, everybody gets what they want.

Beat it

Beat it

Anything else?

Ghosts and Goblins? heard it was a monster

i also dislike hard games. IMO gaming should be fun, not a hair-pulling, controller smashing lesson in frustration and perseverance. but obviously some find that fun, more power to them :)
I'm pretty sure there's a special place in hell reserved for F-Zero GX
Funny you should mention that, that's one of my favorite games. 100% everything unlocked, all hard modes completed, etc

I always thought mega man games were pretty easy.

Getting trophies on SSHD provides a good challenge for something current.

Golden Axe for an oldie, I tried playing it on the sega collection a year or two ago and I felt incompetent.

Castlevania Symphony of the Night is pretty damn hard until you beef up and get gamebreaking weapons, although that can happen pretty fast if you know what you're doing.

Azurik, Rise of Perathia

Not only is it gem, but it was frustrating as hell to play. Not so much because it was hard, but because it sucked so much.

Ratchet and Clank: Going Commando

Don't get any armor though. (by the end of the game I had to as it started to piss me off)

No, it's not that I'm good, it's just I like challenges. But from what Foo228 said, I guess I could go the personal challenge way. For example, completing Metroid Prime without collecting any energy tanks or missile upgrades (Which I've done), or completing Final Fantasy X without using the sphere grid (Which I've also done).
Gradius V... and Ninja Gaiden Sigma... and Castlevania Dracula X Chronicles... and Classic MK games vs. Computer players...
The Fighting games can be hard sometimes, I'll admit, but it's all about guessing, pattern work, and glitch/unending combos ;)

really difficult platforming. lots of deaths, lots of trial and error, then even more dying after you've figured out what you're supposed to do.
but all in all, it's fair on its own terms.
Downloading as we speak, I hope it's not like that game I played before, where you start out choosing between Heaven and Hell, and if you go to Heaven, you automatically get a Game Over. Or that Fan made Mario game, where everything you've come to know, such as the first level, where you get the mushroom, actually kills you :)

I thought Sigma was supposed to be easier than Black. Or does it go Black easier than the original, Sigma harder than Black but not as hard as the original?

Sigma is easier than black and black is easier than Original. I personally think Ikaruga on hard without restarting a level and getting an insane score (can't hit the game over screen so only 3 lives) is an insanely hard challenge. Very few people have done it

Yes! Gradius V. I was playing that today and it is indeed very challenging.

Very awesome game though.

god man what have you not beaten?

ill just say ninja gaiden master ninja mode ;mission mode

PAIN
PAIN
OH THE PAIN

The Mega Man games have nothing on Ninja Gaiden or Battletoads on the NES.

That being said, I'm perfectly fine with beatable games. I prefer to play games on the setting where there's the feeling that I might easily die, but I keep progressing. Keeps things fun for the limited amount of time I have to play games.

Master Ninja mode in NG:Black or Sigma is definitely an accomplishment worth bragging about. Very Hard mode is pretty tough if you go for the 100 fiend challenges, but you can still potion spam through bosses.

Ninja Gaiden II might be harder overall though because enemies spam projectiles to the point where you have to get hit by them. But the game is completely unbalanced and I wouldn't wish a playthrough on Master Ninja on anyone.

IWBTG is actually beatable, but like I said, it takes lots of trial and error, then even more practice after that. I was stuck on the very first screen for about 15 minutes before I realized what to do.

I'm still confused about what to do. I can get past the first 2 spikes, but the third is making me mad :p

Petz: Catz 2

Why do they have to make games so hard!!!

Here's how to do the first part:
Go up. avoid the spikes. the game starts on the surface. the spikes are just a red herring.

I feel retarded now, and guess what happened the minute I went up there :O

Apples of Doom

Devil May Cry 4: Hell and Hell Mode. You can't get hit...EVER.

Seriously, Metroid Prime without Energy Tanks or Missile Upgrades. I assume you played on Hard. Whatever the case, DUDE, THAT'S HARDCORE!

Give it a try, it's not as hard as it sounds. It's hard enough to get hit while strafing :p

@ ninja dog - Well, I got past the apples, and to the save point with the clouds and spikes. This game is pretty hard XD
