Most outrageously priced/overpriced game/item you've EVER seen?

A game that is "used once" could be just as scratched as a game that was played many times so that was kind of pointless. If you are going to type an ebay description with "used once" in it make sure you at least put that the game was played once by an adult and that the disc has no scratches on it. Some people beat games very quickly in one sitting, or play a game once and then just decide they don't like it so yes in theory it could actually be used once. But I would be wary of short descriptions that say "used once" or "like new".

TRU has been notorious for marking up the prices of Pokemon games over the years, specifically raising the prices on Pokemon console games a couple weeks before christmas or at release. Kmart also did this but to a lesser extent, but I know they were charging at least 65.99 for Zelda Windwaker at release.. I remember when TRU had Pokemon Channel for 50$ and everywhere else it was 29.99. They also had Pokemon Colloseum for a cool 70$ at release when it was 50$ everywhere else. I actually saw these prices in the stores and these were the actual prices they were charging, if only I had a digital camera back then. They don't do this any more to my knowledge though and neither does Kmart.

Lets not forget the whole fiasco with best buy marking up the prices on those Zelda collector disc's to around 70$ or 80$ when they were not even supposed to be sold without the game as they were a preorder bonus.

I kinda laughed at BB charging $10 for an OLDDDDDDDD GC demo disc. It had a bunch of demos for release era titles on it. I saw the discs sitting there when I was looking for guides after the one drop and had one scanned. I just kinda snickered and walked out.

Place in a shopping center nearby (forget the name), I never saw it but one day I had to go to my new insurance office to sign some paper, noticed it and stopped in. Packed wall to wall with games, systems, and everything inbetween. Looked at a few things I was looking for at the time, few things I remember: Pokemon Gold ($30), NES system (no cables or anything, $85), Final Fantasy 7 (GH $120, Normal $200). Hell even the Game Gears were about $75, needless to say I haven't been back since.

Hot damn, that's insane. I mean, on EBay you might get those prices for FFVII, but offline, you just can't charge that without giving a REAL reason, other than 'it goes for that on Ebay'.

LOL I remember that, someone pointed it out, then I bought a copy of it for PS1 and told the clerks at the store 'I'd like to trade it back in now, it should get me about $100,000 in credit, right?'. They just snickered, then checked the site and laughed with me about that huge mistake.
I remember when Circuit City had that Xbox bundle game Tetris worlds/Star Wars clone wars with a $99.99 price tag on it. The real jerky cashier that works there acted insulted when I asked him if that price was real...for a game that was supposed to be a FREE pack in. He said "See the other games that are $50? Well you get TWO games...I dont know why its so hard for you to understand"
YEA I saw this years ago at Best buy and I was like WTF!??!?!? Tetris and Clone wars IS NOT WORTH 50 bucks each. Heck Clone wars I got back in 2003 when I got my cube during black friday and I got that for oh 6 bucks :)

Tetris I got later for 9 bucks at CC :)
Back in the day I payed 74.99$ For South Park 64...the lame FPS for the N64.
LOL, my cousin paid that much for that game! I remember playing it and thinking it was so bad, but didn't want to tell him that! :) I also remember seeing that game for like $65 at Walmart back in the day, only N64 game that I can remember that sold at Walmart higher than $60.

A game that I saw overpriced was Transformers for the PSone that was mislabeled as Steel Battalion, something like $99.99!

Actual game price that was overpriced that I saw recently was either Zelda Collector's edition for $50 at Gamestop, a game that was once for free shouldn't go for retail new, or Bomberman Jetters at Walmart for $50 when I could have gotten it for less than $10 at CC!

The fact that Zelda CE was never sold via retail means that it is less common and more valuable than other GC games. You should also specify that it was used! I still have a block of sealed (together) Zelda Master Quest discs and I have sold some for over $100 after shipping and most for over $80.

Anyway, Steel Battalion was $200 normally, though I got it for $99.99 at Media Play just as Steel Battalion Line of Contact was arriving. All N64 games at launch were $75 at Wal-Mart and that was the standard price for some time. My friend got South Park 64 too but all we ever played was deathmatch. It used the Turok II game engine.

Actually, that was the normal price. I'm kinda bummed that I passed on it and never added it to my collection. Though I wouldn't back then, if I saw it for $10 today, I'd buy it.

i think the most ive really seen overpriced when they first came out was N64 games. remember when Wrestlemania 2000 came out? that game was so hard to find in NYC people were selling them from $80 to $250. i know the games express in the bronx sold it for $90+ tax. crazy. that and the pawnshops and flea markets that sells sports games for more than they are worth. madden 97 for $60? i'll take two please...

oh and i just remembered.. the Nintendo World Champions auction on ebay that sold for $10,000 or something. i was watching that auction. and i actually know a person who has one. thats just insane. but it is rare.

one of these days we'll probably see half Life for the dreamcast, the only copy ever produced, for $30,000+!!! im kiddin, but hey everything is possible, just look at that Myriad game for the NES.

RePlay games used to sell House of the Dead 3 for $60 used, claiming it was an out or print title even though it wasn't.
I think that the Zelda OOT/MQ for the Gamecube is ridiculous. It used to be free and it's a re-release to boot.
Actually, it was as limited as can be. It was only for Zelda Wind Waker preorders and the preorders sold out. Also, Master Quest is EXCLUSIVELY available on the OOT/MQ disc. Who told you that it was a re-release?! It's not even on the *LATER* Zelda Collector's Edition disc. The only reason I was able to get mine was because Toys R Us preordered hundreds without giving them out and promised that more were on the way. When they got theirs, the stupid employees put them on the shelf with a $100 price tag.

The only other option is to get an N64, Expansion Pak, CIC6105 boot chip Game Pak, FlashRAM GamePak, Protected Cartridge Decoder, a 256Mb backup unit (V64, V64jr, Z64, etc), and an illegally downloaded ROM ripped from the OOT/MQ disc. You could rip it yourself with a Gamecube + Phantasy Star Online + Broadband Adapter + crossover cable + hexeditor + lots of work, but you'll still want all the other equipment.

It's a re-release in that the game was on N64 before. The Master Quest might be somewhat new but regular OOT was old as hell. Master Quest isn't even a new game either. It's OOT with remixed dungeons/temples.
