I'm hoping for a slow week, after these stores have been throwing down tons of cheap DVD's lately.

I only want to buy the new Toy Story this week and that's it :D

the new toy story disc infuriates me....i bought the ultimate toy box set...

anyways, thanks for the ads again as usual, TSD!

The Ultimate Toy Box gets good money on eBay -- Toy Story 2 is supposed to come out near Xmas so between the two it will probably contain the same (or more) features as the box set.

I believe that these new releases contain some features that are not in the Toy Box, but the Toy Box has some features that are not on these.

I'm grabbing Toy Story 1 & 2 because I never got a chance to buy them the first time, and the new transfers and audio mixes (Dolby 5.1 EX and DTS) are awesome.

Yeah, I think you are right -- I'd want the new version in any case due to the new transfers and sound. I'd take better quality video/sound versus extra features.

Alright, time to get Lost, that show was so amazing, I hope the extras on it are just as good as the show was! Thanks again TSD!

There's a review of it on DVDtalk.com Lost: Season 1 Review on dvdtalk.com and it looks like it is a kick ass set.

I would pre-order it now on the bestbuy website to get the $10 digital coupon, but I just know they'll screw me out of the exclusive bonus disc again if I do. Why can't they allow in-store pickup pre-orders for large releases such as this. :whistle2:x
I hope someone has "Millennium" Season 3 on sale too. :D

Thanks for the early heads up. :)
That is what I am looking for as well. Hopefully BB or CC will have it on sale. Otherwise I'll be ordering it from DE or DDD.

Maybe the poster was crediting CAG for the Target ad portion of the post?
you guys should sell your box sets of toystory on ebay before they get cheap. nobody will probably want it since the new editions are coming out
DO NOT DO THIS.

If you have the box set, don't bother with the new edition unless you were so hard-up for a DTS track that you simply can't live without it. And if you can discern the difference in the transfer, then you should become a sniper because you have phenomenal eyesight.

Yeah exactly GunsGermsSteel. The previous release for Toy Story 1 and 2 are amazing already. I can't see how the hell Disney could actually improve upon that outside of the DTS tracks.

I won't bother with the new ones. Its nice for people who missed out but for those of us who own them already its not worth it.

However, if you consider yourself a videophile, then the DTS track is reason enough to consider an upgrade. Also, if you happen to have a properly calibrated projector or HDTV monitor, there are subtle improvements to the picture's sharpness, clarity, hues and colour palette to warrant a second dipping.

Here is an excerpt from David Boulet's review on HTF regarding the video:
Though I never would have found any room to criticize the former DVD on these points (and still don't), I just can't help but feel that colors, contrast, black-level and dynamic range have all been improved. The image feels "bolder" and the colors more "solid" while the disc is in play. This is hard to explain because it's a difference that I can feel more than I can objectively describe. Perhaps the increased bitrate has improved MPEG compression enough to mitigate some of the ordinary MPEG compromises we've become accustomed which are subtle and difficult to identify yet result in subjectively different impression. The colors on this disc feel more HDTV-like...the hues seem more vivid with a wider range of palette and clarity. Any hint of noise is absent when viewed from a 1.6 screen-width distance on my 106" screen.
Here's the audio summary:
As much as the improved video on this DVD impressed me, the improvement in audio quality impressed me even more. Though on its own the 5.1 EX DD soundtrack on this disc is reference-setting, the DTS ES mix takes it to an even higher level...adding (preserving) a whole layer of timberal realism across the entire frequency band...from the more liquid bass response to the smooth, lush, micro-detailed midrange to the airy acoustic decays...it raises the bar higher than I imagined it could go.
If your primary viewing setup is comprised of a standard definition television set and an inexpensive HTIB (for audio), then yes, a DVD upgrade is unnecessary; those with a higher-end setup will get more out of the viewing and listening experience.
DO NOT DO THIS.

The $/rarity involved is bumming out all the box owners the most about this new release. I bought my box-set used for $40, then sold it for $100+shipping on eBay over a year later. The toybox will become obsolete now and hardly worth more than the hefty retail price they originally wanted. (Wasn't the sticker-price $59.99?)

I hated the bonus disc from the toybox anyhow. It was boring compared to bonuses like the LOTR 4-disc extras. Everything felt like a 90's PBS program, and nothing I hadn't seen before or better (Star Wars Ep1 Bonus Material was much more satisfying).

Unless you're a die-hard Toy Story collector, why not upgrade and make some cash in the process?
I'd say it's worth it at $14.99, regardless.
If this would of came out a few months ago when we had stretches of weeks without really worthy new releases then I might of actually upgraded despite already owning the Toy Boxset. However with so many new releases coming out over this holiday season suddenly a re-release of Toy Story (either one) suddenly doesn't warrant my attention so much.

Oh, and I just found out my CC is only getting three copies of "Millennium" Season 3 which is a vast improvement over how many we got for Season 2 (a big fat zero). Meanwhile we're getting god knows how many copies for "Lost." At least 50 if not more.

I'll upgrade from the Toy Box versions when the Bluray versions come out. No sense buying this stopgap release.

You also have to realize that, for many, this is a new release since Disney locked these things away in the vault for god knows how long.

I've wanted to own Toy Story for awhile now, only to find out that Disney locked it away... I tried a few pawn shops and used DVD places and came up empty handed. Disney bringing it back out, and CC having it for 14.99, is great news for people like me (of which there are many, trust me).

Your quote would be accurate if it was actually still possible to buy the original Toy Story DVD in most stores, but alas, it is not.

The Disney Vault is one hell of a marketing ideal. Isn't it almost time for Aladdin to head back into the vault?
