moving to Vancouver BC

I'm moving to Vancouver BC in the summer for school and my wife and are trying to find an apartment that takes cats and has hard wood floors. We are both game geeks and would love to know the stats on the city, ie, good hoods bad hoods etc.

I can't say much about vancouver, but I know in toronto every apartment building I saw made you sign a paper that said you would not have animals. At the same time, every single one also said, verbally, that pets were allowed and I saw multiple dogs in the apartment buildings and on walks on the grounds. Basically my point is, if you can't find one that allows dogs (this would probably be easier if you have a decent income), most apartments will likely allow the cat as long as it doesn't cause a problem. You could also look into apartments in houses (ie. 2 or 3 family apartment buildings), most of those seem to allow pets and don't even mention them in the lease.

BC seems fairly liberal about those types of things, so I'm not sure it will be a big issue.

I live in Vancouver now, it shouldnt be too hard to find a place. My apartment allows pets, try searching on www.mls.ca, the only place you might want to avoid living is in Hastings area

Iam considering study in game design at one of a few schools up there and I'd like to be in downtown. Is Hastings where chinatown is located?

My parents live in West Vancouver and my dad had to live in town before they got a house there.

If Hastings is the bad neighborhood, try to avoid living there. If I remember correctly, Hastings is not Chinatown or vice versa...

How do they dig West Vancouver? I'm trying to find a place around May. If they or anyone knows of a 1 bedroom apartment or loft downtown, in a non-scary hood, that takes cats, please pm me.

ya, they film smallville here too. Most of the city is like chinatown though, except for hastings, thats where the cracks are. You should look for a place in april, thats when alot are available cause the school ends in april

np, but be prepared, there arent many video game deals available in canada. and shit is more expensive too
