Moving topic here, hopefully this is the right forum for this: --Steam community choice dirty trick--

CAG in Training
Ok, apparently I put this on the wrong forum or something, so hopefully this is the right forum, so if you read this before it was moved, my appologies:

While legal - the following stinks of fooling the customers

In the votes they sometimes put one "attractive" choice (dazzle people with a METACRITIC score or a high discount percentage) that actually gives almost NO DISCOUNT.  Sometimes these are cool games, but games that you can already get on steam itself for roughly the same price, so they are just bait to draw your vote from the larger discounts.

Here are just the last couple of choices and how people were suckered to waste their vote on next to no discount:
1) The already 75% discounted "Sacrifice" was offered to be voted for 80%.  And people threw their vote on 5% of reduction!
2) "Super Hexagon" was already discounted at 80%, so they offered it at 90% and people wasted their vote on 10% diff or only 0.29$ reduction in price!!

These are just the latest two, but there have been several additional incidents that I have seen, and I certainly don't see every vote - so this is no accident.
Basically steam uses the fact that people do not really check what they gain from the deal, and makes them waste a vote, in the process they fake a time-limited deal, without having to really tank any real dollar-discount for the votes.

So - PLEASE assess the real dollar gain of your vote, and when people post somewhere: "Hey, this rocking game X is offered for a discount steam choice", please alert them to the fact that they are voting for a few dimes worth of discount on game X, while voting for game Y would have gained them several bucks.  Just annoyed of this steam dirty play.

If anyone thinks that it's unimportant because he's a CAG that knows to tell the good deals from the bad, just watch how community choices jump up the best sellers list, or the best sellers under 5$, even if the community choice added only 29c to the already existing discount.  People are falling for this trick!

Thanks

What an excellent contribution.  I believe you did not truly understand the topic and it's importance for steam in general, for the marketing of games, and the impact on you as well as the gaming industry moves on.  But it's ok, I'm probably old enough to be your father, so I shouldn't be over judgemental of your naive look on things.

The sad part is that is actually steam's way of surveying customer needs, what products sale is an indirect way to survey needs, and the vote is the direct way.  So in part - voting shapes future market - and for instance a 90% discount on an antique game that already had 80% superceded a kickstarted group that worked hard and gave good results.  A shame.

)On a different note, I see that my original post is lingering here in parallel, that is not what I meant, can someone merge these?  Sorry for the trouble)

Thanks!

Yes, surely you are old enough to be my father, as I'm 31 years old. And a small 2 votes in a holiday sale truly effects the entire outcome of the pc master race marketing and pricing. Calm the hell down. Like it was said in the other thread, people are only voting for snow globe cards. Just cause some games you probably wanted didn't get picked is not the end of the world, or a reason to rage hard on here with a tripe post about it.

And since you went straight for the age insult there, nice to see you are not "judgmental" as you claim I am, champ. How's them apples?

Yes, I am now sure you have a naive outlook, VERY much your senior still, and I buy from time to time for my son which I safely assume is something you have not experienced, and therefore do not share my worries - which brings us to the point that's very much obvious - you don't care one bit about children spending their money on steam, as I said - after you see something get picked by the community, you see the picked game soar in the best sellers list.  You are steam's pawn in this game, serving them faithfully by saying "who cares" and playing in the most important feature steam has business-development wise, the steam vote, the tool they can use to determine their actions tomorrow.  And as a bonus they then peddle to children the stuff you voted for blindly as an unaware pawn of their marketing.

Also, from calling someone you don't know by names in your first post here, to your very last sentence so far, you are a guy that is disrespectful to others, spending your time reading the forum looking for flames to start, so yes, you're right, I have every right to be judgmental.  This discussion could have gone much more politely were you to start it so.  If this continues to be your style. this is the end of my conversation with you.  And if you choose to do so please do feel free to troll underneath my messages if it's so important for you.

So now one of the rare ones I see live, probably an unintentional steam bug (i hope at least), still interesting to see what will happen: Kinetic Void, not a bad vote otherwise, is up for vote for the exact same discount it already has until next week, it's interesting to see the public here - I wonder how many people will vote for it to get the exact same discount it already has :), and if it wins - how it will affect its sales

Eh, I was the one that got trolled anyway, Just saw your join date.  Should have never tried to reason with a newjack that joined and posted this immediately.  Crazy conspiracy posts are always such bait.

This thread was opened because steam posted no-discounts as bait, and people bought the games that they were baited to buy because an existing discount seemed temporary suddenly, watching the sales ranks you can see that these are the facts.

Now, look at how much energy you've invested in order to fight and flame about it, you did not add anything, you did not help anyone by doing that, just to fight.  This is more than a bit pathetic.  So now I will keep my promise and end this conversation with you.  Do like steam page on FB and tell them they're great, and curse me to hell for saying otherwise.  Bye troll.

Dramatic exit!  You are as fun to watch as people that cry "bait and switch" at every turn, just to let you know.  And it takes two to argue, so you can sit on your high horse all day and say "look how much time you wasted" when you are the long winded one here doing just as fine a job as any troll baiting myself.  In fact, I should feel pathetic, to fall for this troll of a thread.
