MP3 Player recomendations

Pizzicato Five

CAGiversary!
I'm looking at getting a 20G or larger MP3 player. There is so much info out there pointing in all different directions I thought I'd ask fellow cheap ass gamers for any advice? I was thinking of the Creative one as people in general seem to think it has the best sound. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Yep, the Creative Zen is the best overall and costs less than most other players. If you really don't want to spend much you could get an older Creative Jukebox for even less than the Zen and it is just as good, though it is a bit larger, about the size of a portable CD player.

my friend went through 3, yes THREE, zens before he finally switched to an ipod. The last time he took it back the Best Buy worker was smart and told my buddy that they come back all the time broken.

My sister got an iPod. It's a bit overpriced but I really think it's a piece of art. You also get the "wow you got an iPod?" factor from girls, and since iPod is as much of a chick magnet as a 7 inch you-know-what, you'll get a lot of girls*.

*girls not guaranteed, your milage may vary
For the money, get an iRiver. iRiver H320 or iRiver iHP-120
iRiver is qualiTAY. Awesome remote too. If you have the money for an iPod, do yourself and Apple a favour, and buy iRiver. Apple won't miss your measly $400 or whatever it is

IRivers are top of the line mp3 players. They're expensive but well worth it...

Check out the Dell DJ. It's cheaper than an Ipod, has much better battery life, and can play more file formats than the Ipod (including WMA's).

Creative has a rotten customer service system. My boyfriend's Zen broke and he sent it in it took 3 tries to actually get it back. First time they sent a new one but it was only a 20GB when his was a 40GB. Second time, right size but no battery in it... third time sent battery (time elapsed 6 weeks MP3 player less)
I have an Archos Jukebox that I have dropped so many times and the thing still runs well. It's also very easy to use; it's like having an external hard drive, no programs necessary. Unless you want to make a playlist (I usually just make a separate folder for my current mp3s)
My tip, if you are careful (never ever drop) then Creative Zen is the best way to go. But if you want a decent quality and decent price go with Archos. I can't really tell the difference between sound quality.

The Creative Zen is the way to go. Cheaper, more storage for the price, and quality. I got the 30 gb version for $220 and have been very impressed. So it comes down to how much you want to pay, and if you want to be "popular".

Personally I found my Archos MP3 player at a pawn shop for $100 about 4 years ago. (10GB... now a 20GB due to a little upgrading with a notebook HD). My mother just picked up an iPod at a pawn shop for $150 (5GB). I've seen Creative players start arriving in pawn shops so you might want to look at local pawn shops before going retail.

Seems like the creative zen and the Dell are the best for the buck. Although most people I know have the iPod.
