Nothing too exciting but great news on the Gears 3 beta!

A little more Gears 3 news:

Aside from the opportunity to test out Gears of War 3's multiplayer before its retail release, the forthcoming beta will feature at least one additional incentive for Gears heads to enter: an unlockable, gold-plated version of the Retro Lancer (modeled above by Cole Train). This new (old) rifle, with bayonet, made a cameo appearance in Gears 2 and will feature in the new game.

Epic hasn't decided exactly how the gold Retro Lancer will be unlocked in the beta for use in the retail version of Gears 3, but, during a press event this week, producer Rod Fergusson offered a rough idea of what it might take. "If you play -- right now, we're still fiddling with the numbers -- but right now we're talking like 90 matches," Fergusson said. "If you play 90 matches and get, say, 100 kills with [the Retro Lancer] weapon, [the gold version is] yours. There's no other place to get it." Fergusson also promised there would be additional unlockables in the beta, though he didn't go into specifics.

Pretty disappointing for sure. Well, I'm disappointed for different reasons then most here - I was hoping to see something new, as yet unannounced, for Kinect. Oh well.

Typing this from the venue (the event has shifted into a more casual cocktail party). The Dishwasher sequel looked solid, hands-on time with a new level in Child of Eden was a highlight and the Arkham City hands-off demo made me even more excited with the game; definitely more open than Asylum and feels a lot like Assassin's Creed, just not *that* open.

Whatever, we all know Arkham City will be delayed to 2012.

Major Nelson is on my shit list after hyping up shit.
The blade dashboard was so nice.

Such a shame they changed it to the crap it is now.
I know. I've always wanted an option to change it back to the blade dashboard. It was a very simple design. I'm surprised that some of you guys liked the old dashboard. I though I was the only lone person who wanted the blade dashboard back.

I never had the privilege of trying the blade dashboard. Just the current and the one before. They are fine, except for the one huge omission: the ability to organize our dashboard however we want. You know, like you can do on the little ol' Wii? We need a dashboard something akin to that - something we organize however the hell we want, including putting our download games right up front if we so like. Oh well. They'd rather throw us advertisements... AND charge us for online.

They want you to spend more money on stuff you wouldn't normally buy.

The blades were nice...for the time. Once Live, XBLA and DLC took off it quickly became clunky to navigate. Not to mention ads all over the place. At least on the NXE and current KinectXE they are grouped together and easily avoidable.

It does still need work though, especially the guide button menus. Those just seem thrown together.
