I'm looking into maybe buying a DS when the Black ones hit the states, which games must I have?

Thus far I'm only definitely interested in Brain Age, but I'm looking into Trauma Center and Pheonix Wright. I might start collecting before I buy the system if I find good deals.

Let me know your opinions!

Mario Kart and Animal Crossing and Tetris, IMO, are the best WiFi games. Plus really good games too offline

New Super Mario Bros & Super Princess Peach are great platformers. I do think Peach is a better game though.

Kirby Canvas Curse is a great game too! Very cool! I guess that's considered platformer too..but.. in a way, it isn't.?

Mario & Luigi Partners in Time is a very good RPG.. Superstar Saga is better. If you haven't played Superstar Saga.. hey, get both! :)

Personally my 2 favorite puzzle games for the DS are Meteos and Zoo Keeper. Tetris too but I already mentioned it. You said you were interested in Brain Age.. why not pick up Big Brain Academy? That's really cool too!

There's alot of games that are great and almost Must haves for the DS. Nintendogs, Advance Wars DS, and Castlevania are also top games. I haven't played Castlevania, but I hear nothing but great things about it.

Then there's games coming out.. ugh! But that's it for now. I'm sure I missed a few, lol =)

Alright, I should have said this earlier. I probably wont play it much, I'm looking for games I can pick up and play for 20 mins at a time, not long experiences. Original concepts especially.

if you can ever find these games, swipe em before some undeserving 5 year old gets their grubby hands on them then trades it in to gamestop because they can't read well:

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
Trauma Center: Under the Knife.

Other than that, good multiplayer ones are:
Mario Kart DS
Tetris DS

Other I reccomend, but not worth MSRP (Try to find a good deal before buying):

New Super Mario Bros(No replay value after collecting all Star coins)
Yoshi's Touch and Go
Sonic Rush
Meteos(It's good, but it ain't no tetris)
Advance Wars DS (It's like chess tenfold with tanks and jets and whatnot, which can be discourging to some)

Pick-up and play games that I can recommend 'cause I've played them:
Warioware: Touched
Tetris DS
Zoo Keeper
Brain Age

Most of the other games will suck you in and hold your attention for more than a few minutes.

Animal Crossing,
Tony Hawk,
Trauma Center,
Id go with Big Brain Academy over Brain Age, BA is good BBA is just more colorful, a little more entertaining.

Trauma Center and Mario are very easy to start and play for 20 minutes, but Advance Wars and Phoenix Wright take much longer especially the later missions/cases!

Original concepts:
Trauma Center
Meteos
Kirby Canvas Curse
Ouendan

Old games that feel new:
Bust a Move
Zookeeper

Over the Hedge, if you can get it cheap.

Brain Age, if you like sudoku. Or want to like sudoku.

I'd also recommend either Rub Rabbits or Feel the Magic, but not both. Rub Rabbits is probably the better choice. They're both fun and funny, but the design wears thin by the second go around.

Kirby Canvas Curse seems to be overlooked quite often even though it has been mentioned in this thread 3 times(counting mine.). I suggest getting that.

If you don't mind importing

1) Osu! Tatakae! Ouedan! - Great Music/Rythem Game
2) Bleach DS - Best Fighter currently on the DS, IMO
I don't know what everyone else thought of it, but I had a blast with Feel the Magic. I played it non-stop for like 5 or 6 hours once.
I enjoyed the hell out of that game! I had beaten it, and was working my way through getting all the stars on the missions...until my dog got a hold of it! I bought another copy at TRU, but I haven't had the heart to start over again  Currently looking for a cheap ($10-12) copy of Rub Rabbits to try out.

Phoenix Wright and Advance Wars are good games, but neither of them are really pick up and go games. Especially with Advance wars having some missions last up to a couple hours, and one wrong move can mean having to restart a mission over again. I think Castlevania is kinda debatable as being a game you play in short bursts, cause there's a lot of exploration.

But most of the really good easy to pick up games have been mentioned, like NSMB, Trauma Center, Brain Age, Ouendan, and Tetris.

now Osu Tatakae Ouendan is making its way to the states as Elite Beat Agents. so if you want to try that you get to only spend 30 and not 60 like us who imported.

pick up and play:
Brain Academy
Tetris DS
Brain Age
New Super Mario Bros

those are some i can off the top of my head

Wow - when I bought it Osu! on eBay it cost me about $35 shipped. Has the game become that popular?

And if you are a fan of Japanese music then there is no excuse to pass this up for the American version.

Gamestop has it for $14.99 used, if you're lucky enough to find it.

I really enjoyed Feel the Magic, but I was disappointed by Rub Rabbits. It's every bit as good, but a lot of times I found myself saying "Oh, not this again." The gameplay model of "replay irritating game lots of times -- oops you fucked up, now start over" wears thin the second time around.

It took me forever to unlock EVERYTHING, but man it was satisfying when I did, great game, original minigames and a pretty decent sense of humour :)

unfortunately they'll use english songs instead of the original japanese ones, i'll probably still buy it, but Ouendan will still top it IMO

I wouldn't be too worried. Even though the game is set in America and has American music, it's Japan's America which should be rather hillarious. I just hope this one has 20+ songs. As much as I love Ouendan, I am so desperate to play something besides Shanghai Honey and Ready! Steady! Go!

As for DS games, here's my current domestic top ten (in no particular order and besides Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright):

-Castlevania DS
-Mario Kart DS
-Animal Crossing DS
-Metroid Prime Pinball
-Advanced Wars DS
-Tetris DS
-Sonic Rush
-New Super Mario Brothers
-Puyo Pop Fever
-Meteos

Honorable Mentions: Kirby Canvas Curse, Metroid Prime Hunters, Star Fox DS, Lost Magic, Pac Pix, Feel the Magic, Super Mario 64 (I liked it, most people were underwhelmed though), Tony Hawk American Sk8land, Wario Ware, Break Em' All, Lost in Blue, and Polarium as games that are well worth checking out. I'm forgeting a ton of games, but that's a good starting list.
