MY 360 is freezing up and giving me the red lights of death constantly. So I call the xbox people, They want $140 to fix it, because I'm 4 months out of warrenty. I tried to talk to a manager but not luck getting them to budge on the price. Has anyone had any luck getting a reduced price?

Also I'm thinking I might just buy a core system sell the broken one on ebay ($100-130) and try and get a gift certificate somewhere.

I'm a poor college student and am really trying to be a cheapass

Ok, so rather than pay $140, you will sell yours for $100, then pay $300 for a new one? That seems like a lot of work to come out about the same as just paying Microsofr the $140. Doesn't seem worth it IMO.

How is it possible to be four months out of the warranty? The warranty lasts a full year, 16 months even from the start date would be March 22nd, 2007. Even then, they'll fix any system made in 2005. There's no way that you could be out of the Microsoft warranty right now. Maybe you just talked to an uninformed employee.. or maybe you haven't called since Christmas.. but there's no possible way you're out of warranty.

Unless you're talking about going to an EB or something. Call Microsoft, mention the one year warranty and they'll repair it for free.

Ummm I bought the console at luanch which was Nov 22 2005 I believe....

Also If I can get a core for $170 ( 300-130) I could maybe get a fre game with it or a gift certificate to a big box store. This would also mean skipping the 2 or 3 week turnaround from microsoft.

Im pretty sure they will fix it then. I thought they said they were fixing all the 2005 units because they admitted they effed up the first run.

EDIT: Guess they changed their minds then? Maybe?

no they just extended the warranty to 1 year...if he bought it 11/2005, then the extended warranty expired several months ago in nov

This is why it pays to buy a warrantee. But honestly, since it seems like EVERY launch system is destined to die eventually, I am rather pissed that Microsoft isn't fixing them all for free.

Especially when it's their own Dashboard updates that fuck up our consoles.

..right, but his system would've still been made in 2005.. hell, every system made through February 06 was probably produced in 05.

i was under the assumption the warranty started the day you bought it...so if he bought it 11/22/05, i would assume they are going with 11/22/06 being the date the warranty expires

I suppose it would mean skipping the turnaround, but you also have the time it takes to put the auction on EBay and let it run. Plus you have to package and send it out ... then BUY one on EBay. I'm thinking the turnaround doesn't sound that bad.
so youd sell a broken 360 on ebay? That seems like kinda a dick move.
Not if he points out that it's broken, which is the usual way it's done. There are plenty of broken consoles bought and sold on eBay.

yes, but it still seems like a dick move.
yes, but it still seems like a dick move.
how? people sell broken systems, and people buy them for parts. I don't see how its a dick move. As long he clearly points out its broken, what's the problem?
yes, but it still seems like a dick move.
WTF?

People sell them on ebay to people who want to mess around with systems (try to repair it themselves and whatnot).
yes, but it still seems like a dick move.
I don't think CoffeEdge meant that "it happens all the time, so it's okay." I think he was just referring to the fact that there actually is a market for broken consoles. Some people specifically look for cheap broken consoles so they can gut it for spare parts, or hollow out the case to make some sort of mod, or what have you. Nothing dickish about selling a properly-labeled broken system to someone who wants to buy a broken system.

Pay the $140. Is it possible to get the warranty with a repaired console ? If you can get that aswell. My 3rd 360 is about to die on me. Thank God for warranty.

I wonder about this myself. I had mine fixed a few months back for free and when I asked about the warranty I was told I would get something about buying it when I got my system back. Well I got it back and nothing about a warranty and I forgot all about it for I'm sure far too long to renew the warranty at this point.

Ahh, fuck-- are you kidding me? I got a dead launch 360 on my hands right now. I was gonna call sometime this week... but now I have to pay $140? That doesn't make sense to me at all.

I called last night and the guy didn't even mention a price to fix mine. He gave me a reference number and address to ship it to. He said to pack it up myself and drop it off at UPS.

Yes, you get a 90 day warranty and then the option to get a 1 year for 25 or 2 year for 50.
