My Awesome Halloween Costume

Shivy

CAGiversary!
This is the awesome Halloween costume that my girlfriend helped me make. I had always wanted one of these, and finally had the money to get the fabric I wanted. The tunic is made of gauze, the robes are made of silky-soft microsuede. The lightsaber is the Mace Windu ForceFX saber.

There's a belt that isn't shown here, but it's black, and is meant to be a replica, sorta, of Anakin's belt from Episode III.

As much as I hate Starwars, I still have to say it looks pretty authentic. Nice work.

You're not doing the gay little braid thing right?
Star Wars stopped being fun after the prequels. You look like a GameStop manager.
In my mind, Star Wars will never stop being fun.

And while I was a manager at a GameStop (even if that was an insult, i'm taking it as a compliment), I'm actually an English teacher that just happens to love Star Wars.

And no, no "gay braid" thing.

Your girlfriend must hate you to help with something like that.

Post some video and we might have some "Best Week Ever" material on our hands.

Why are you holding a florescent light bulb while wearing window curtains and pajama bottoms with boots?

I don't get it.

I want to know what she thought when you asked her to take pictures of you in a Star Wars costume to post on the internet.

I think it looks well done. Impressive.

Probably something along the lines of "honey, you know that the people who share the exact same interests and hobbies as you are going to get all shitty and snarky, and suddenly act as if they never liked Star Wars at all while making empty juvenile comments laced with the sort of hypocrisy usually reserved for disgraced Idaho Senator Larry Craig."

Give or take a participle.

For the record, I'd like to state that I have always thought Star Wars sucked, especially the prequels. I just don't get the obsession.

And the OP posted the pics of his own accord, opening himself up for all manner of comments and opinions. If he didn't know this was coming, he's a bigger douche than even the costume implies.

Not getting the obsession and thinking it sucks don't go hand in hand. I like the films, but just as films, y'know? I don't own toys or have debates on who would win in a fight between this guy and that guy. I don't get the obsession, but still enjoy Star Wars.

As far as comments and opinions, I suppose you're on to something. If this was what he wore to work (like that cat with the Star Trek-themed dentistry), it'd be one thing. But he's showing off a fucking Halloween costume. What's the big deal?

True, obsession and enjoying a movie are completely different. I guess I'm saying that I don't do either. The movies were not that great to me, and I certainly don't buy into the whole SW media assault.

There's no big deal, really. It's just a costume, and if he gets off on that type of thing, go for it. But posting pics of it (and big pics at that, to include action poses  ) is just asking for trouble. Furthermore, posting them on CAG was just a horrible idea in the first place. We can be rather brutal around here. *Guilty*

Another thing I don't "get" are the Internet Forum Good Samaritans who swoop in and defend every clueless goober who gets verbally splattered in a message board. Searing words can serve as powerful lessons, and also, it's just the web for Christ's sake. If you can't take a sour word here, good luck in "el mundo verdadero".

*shrugs* It's the internet, I wasn't expecting any positive comments. i was just sharing.

Personally, I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Always have been, my entire life. I'm excited about my costume and that's all that matters. It's something I had wanted to be as authentic looking as possible; something I could use at other conventions too. I took those pictures to send to an out of state friend. I figured as long as I had them, I might as well share them with others. I don't care how others look at me, I'm perfectly happy dressing up as a Jedi. My girlfriend (fiance at this point, actually) loves me for who I am; she made the outfit for me and took pictures for me, so I honestly don't care how much of a doofus some people might think me.

It's interesting how online communities vary in the types of people that post. I posted the same pictures in several different forums, and it's interesting that CAG had, by far, the most negative comments made (like I said, doesn't bother me a bit, I just find it interesting). It does make me wonder, though, what about this community makes it so critical and opinionated compared to some others... That'd make an interesting discussion, I'd wager.

From the looks of this thread, I'd say your mere presence is to blame.

The bigger we get the deeper down the crapper our OT board goes. I'm not gonna sit here and defend these jackasses but that's just the way it goes. VG specific boards are still hot but the mods are just too busy with other shit to come in and steer the OT in a more moderate direction.

As opposed to what, getting off on ripping on people online? Here's something I find amusing, he actually has a girlfriend, I'm guessing you don't or you wouldn't be so hostile.

Heaven forbid anyone ever be positive on the net, right?

Aren't you that tool that thinks he's protecting America by working as a TSA? Just keep reaching for the bottom dude, eventually you'll reach it.
Nice work. How long did it take to make?
It took about a month. The tunic took the longest.

From the looks of this thread, I'd say your mere presence is to blame.
...Because I posted some pictures of myself in a costume? How does that warrant people being opinionated and rude?

It's the internet, and this message board is fully of angst filled teens and guys in their mid-20s. What do you expect? Yes, our interests are similiar, and I give you credit for having the guts to post that pic. Unfortunately, for you, you got a primarily negative response. Try posting that on a star wars message board and maybe things turn out better for you.

As for the Ender, just ignore him. More than half his posts are filth, and just him showing how optimistic and delightful of a person he is.

The first two movies are pretty good. Once they figured out what a merchandising cow they had on their hands it all went to shit.

since people already took shots, ill just say that it looks pretty good, geeky as hell, but good. if its any consolation, mine doesnt look that good (its not star wars though) but its just about as geeky, so its worse than yours.

I think the costume is pretty awesome. Does your g/f want to make one for me? Also, my wife wants to know if she can have some of those pomegranates in the background?

Quit trying to justify yourself, admit you're a dickwad and move on.

I think your girlfriend did a fantastic job, it looks more authentic than most costumes I've seen grown adults prance around in.
As opposed to what, getting off on ripping on people online? Here's something I find amusing, he actually has a girlfriend, I'm guessing you don't or you wouldn't be so hostile.
I'm married, happily. Thanks.

Ah, you went with a personal attack, and when I wasn't even talking to or about you. Classy. That, coupled with ridiculing my job, sounds more like the actions of one who is "reaching for the bottom".

Unfair and ungrounded.

And if anyone is counting, that's 3 times you insulted someone unprovoked. I said nothing to you, or about you. "Delightful".

Very nice, OP.

I don't get the hate but whatever. Brak's comment made me lol though.

And I love how now that epi III proves that Ani/Darth isn't the best jedi of all time myke suddenly isn't into debating who would beat who in a fight. Pssshhht.

It looks like a nice costume to me. Don't see what all the hate is about. Oh well carry on with the flame war.
This statement boggles the mind.
Still upset about getting called out? Good thing you've learnt to actually deal with your problems instead misdirecting your anger into infantile vendettas.

See you 'round the boards, big guy :D

...What?

I have no idea what you're talking about. :whistle2:k
