I think it looks like it was swiped from the Lucasfilm archives. Well done. The utility belt will definitely be the finishing touch.
Halloween is the one day a year you can wear outlandish costumes and not get crazy looks from people. Leave it to the Internet tough guys to crap in here.. Even if you hate Star Wars you should be able to appreciate the time and effort that went into this. This isn't the thread you're looking for.. move along.
*shrugs* It's the internet, I wasn't expecting any positive comments. i was just sharing.
Personally, I'm a huge Star Wars fan. Always have been, my entire life. I'm excited about my costume and that's all that matters. It's something I had wanted to be as authentic looking as possible; something I could use at other conventions too. I took those pictures to send to an out of state friend. I figured as long as I had them, I might as well share them with others. I don't care how others look at me, I'm perfectly happy dressing up as a Jedi. My girlfriend (fiance at this point, actually) loves me for who I am; she made the outfit for me and took pictures for me, so I honestly don't care how much of a doofus some people might think me.
It's interesting how online communities vary in the types of people that post. I posted the same pictures in several different forums, and it's interesting that CAG had, by far, the most negative comments made (like I said, doesn't bother me a bit, I just find it interesting). It does make me wonder, though, what about this community makes it so critical and opinionated compared to some others... That'd make an interesting discussion, I'd wager.
Not everyone here is an asshole. Your costume came out kick ass, man.
I think it's kind of funny the high horse that people frequenting a f-cking INTERNET VIDEO GAME DEAL FORUM can get on.
I'm married, happily. Thanks.
I can only hope, for the sake of your wife and child, that you're not as miserable of a prick in real life as you portray here.
Ah, you went with a personal attack, and when I wasn't even talking to or about you. Classy. That, coupled with ridiculing my job, sounds more like the actions of one who is "reaching for the bottom".
Ok, let's examine some of your recent posts together then:
The next person that makes this type of joke gets kicked in the sack by me. Twice.

QFT.
Notice that Mana Knight said he was the "football manager" in high school. Anyone remember what kinds of guys filled that position?
That's right, it's always the guys too weak or ing dorky to actually play football.

"Know how I know you're gay?"
I could dig deeper, but your first page of recent posts gives us all the examples needed. Generally the extent of what you add to a conversation consists of calling something or someone either "gay" or "a ing pussy".
And if anyone is counting, that's 3 times you insulted someone unprovoked. I said nothing to you, or about you. "Delightful".
No, that's three times I insulted you and your cynical posts, uncalled for criticisms, and general thread-crapping was all the provocation I needed. I'm just laying it out there for everyone else to see, the OP, in particular. Yes, I can agree what he's doing is geeky, but what isn't geeky about an internet message board dedicated to helping people get more video games for less money?
Well, I must say I'm... flattered that I somehow spurred a flame war that really doesn't have a whole lot to do with me, and all, but whatever.
Thank you all for the compliments (those that gave them), it took a long time to get the outfit together and I just wanted to share my efforts with anyone who'd care. I was a little surprised at how negative some people could be to a positive, polite thread, but *shrugs* That's the internet, I suppose.
yeah, you're gonna get laid in that
lmao damn that was so in funny. why the hell do peopel think it looks cool to dress like a jedi? i'll give you props op for having a pretty accurate costume but unless your old lady is gonna be rockin a slave leia getup to accompany you youre gonna look kinda goofy.

Yeah, it's um halloween or something.. chances are most people are going to look kinda goofy.
Wow, ZL just owned Ender. Ender, its people like you (and somtimes me...I admit) that make people hesistant to post new threads because of the negativity. I post on IGN alot and must admit that people seem much quicker to flame on CAG (which I kind of like). I am not one to shy away from debate or argument but your comments that ZL quoted are neither.
OP, that costume is bad ass. It's really cool that you took so much time and effort to make your own costume. On the other hand it is pretty dorky looking, just my opinion though. Obviously with a fiance you're not worried about getting laid, its after we're married that we have to worry (I'm engaged too).
I have (what I think is) an ingenious plan for a costume to wear to a party I really don't feel like going to because I don't feel like talking to anybody there. Can anybody guess what it is? (Hint: you can figure it out by reading the first sentence of this paragraph.)

Who asked you?
Guys, if you don't like me or my posts, feel free to add me to your ignore list. That's the beauty of the internet, and this site in particular.
ZL, I find it lame that you are so familiar with my posting style and specific comments, and that you went to all the trouble to find those posts and put them up. I can imagine you sitting at home/work, spending your own personal time and effort to track those down and post them. (Waste of your time, by the way. "Internet owning" is worth exactly nothing in the real world.) Sure, you've got me, I'm a dick sometimes (or half the time, by your estimation). Deal with it, or ignore it, whatever; just take that righteous indignation elsewhere.

ALLRIGHT!!! Now that we've admitted it we can move on. I flame sometimes, probably too much. It's FUN! This OP does look like a total dork in his costume (but so do alot of people on halloween). This costume however, combined with the glasses, make the OP look particularly geeky, (this is ignoring the geekyness of being so devoted to Starwars). My only issue is with people who flame and insult then deny it; just fess up.
I am completely aware of CAGers tendency to flame and insult. It doesnt bother me. When you do get some props or positive feedback/responses it just makes it that much better. People who are sensitive or have their feelings hurt easily should stay the away from video game message boards because alot of us can be a vicious lot. It doensnt make it right but it is what it is.
As whathisname said in the fantastic four: "FLAME ON!"
BTW OP I do think that your costume is pretty bad-ass, its just sort of dorky IMO, but me posting on vid game message boards is sort of dorky so i guess it takes one to know one. You mentioned that you took the pictures for a convention or something right? What is that about? I think we should delve into the true extent of your star wars fanboyism.
I too have been enjoying this thread.
Come on people, answer my question from before:
"I have (what I think is) an ingenious plan for a costume to wear to a party I really don't feel like going to because I don't feel like talking to anybody there. Can anybody guess what it is? (Hint: you can figure it out by reading the first sentence of this paragraph.)"
either a mime, a zombie or youre going to rock it old school with a shower curtain costume ala Karate Kid.
Don't get me wrong -- I like the costume, good quality, you and your girl must have spent a lot of time on it...
I'm just kind of jaded because the prequels sparked a ton of Jedi cosplayers, and the prequels kind of changed Star Wars from "epic series" to "epic lulz" for me.
Its like a billion nerds cried out in pain and were suddenly silenced.
This is the awesome Halloween costume that my girlfriend helped me make. I had always wanted one of these, and finally had the money to get the fabric I wanted. The tunic is made of gauze, the robes are made of silky-soft microsuede. The lightsaber is the Mace Windu ForceFX saber.
There's a belt that isn't shown here, but it's black, and is meant to be a replica, sorta, of Anakin's belt from Episode III.
Pictures Here:

I havent looked through the thread, but has anyone mentioned that it appears your chest is on fire?

What's there to be familiar with? You check someone's posts in their profile, I found all that in the first page alone, and moved on. Not a time consuming activity.
The key is you've proved to be a bigger douche than your depiction of the OP, my amusement has been had here.
I havent looked through the thread, but has anyone mentioned that it appears your chest is on fire?
Wow.... It *does* look like I'm on fire... (that's my hand, though).
And I am a big dork. I look like a dork, especially with the glasses here (there aren't any characters in the entirety of the Star Wars universe that wear glasses, as far as I can tell), but my vision is bad so *shrugs*, I don't care. I love wearing the outfit. i don't feel like a dork in it. I feel like a Jedi, and that, too me, is really cool.
And on fanboyism in general, I don't know if it's such a bad thing to be a fan of something. Most of us are here on CAG because we're all fans of video games. When I went to Star Wars Celebration earlier this year, i found it to be an amazing experience. More or less I could mention any obscure reference to anythign Star Wars and have almsot anyone there able to tell me exactly where it's from. There's a certain kind of rush an exhillaration from that strange anonymous mutuality you have with all these people you don't know.
The same goes for people who attend Anime Conventions, or Star Trek Rallies, or whatever. A the school where i teach, many of the teachers tend to congregate with eachother based on the subject matter. Among English Teachers, I'm confident that I can bring up a discussion about Dostoevsky's use to literary realism, and know they'll have something interesting to say. It's a normal social dynamic that happens all the time. It's interesting to me when there's a community like CAG that subdivides into extensions of the main "gamer" umbrella we all fit under. I think it's a really neat thing.
I need to dig up an old video that I've been meaning to post to YouTube for like two years now...we went to launch night for Episode III dressed up (poorly) as our own characters and generally wreaked havoc.
Two people in well-made Jedi outfits like yours showed up with the really pricey force-FX lightsabers, doing a choreographed duel, and they threatened to fight us because our shenannigans were distracting the crowd from their little fight.

yes man you have to find that video. it is your duty to find that and post it lol. that remind sme of that triumph the insult dog sketch where he was just ripping on all these star wars fans at the opening of a film. classic stuff. its funny the things people take so seriously but its their hardcore devotion that makes it all the more funnier.
Real nice job on the costume man, all the noise in this thread you are getting because of it.
It's what you want, it looks good, and you seem to be happy with it and that is all that matters.
Congrats to you for finding something you like for Halloween and getting something of such high quality to roll with. Lord knows I have been having a bitch of a time figuring out what to do for our party.
"Peace" and "Quiet"?
YOu got it! Damn, there are a bunch of smart mother ers in these boards.
Yeah the woman thought it woudl be "cute" to go as a themed couple. Not themed like football player/cheerleader or shark/mermaid; but themed like peace and quiet so she is a hippie and I am a mime.
I've got my costume all ready too. I am going to wear the shirt from a prisoner costume (excluding the numbers on the chest) which is white and blacked striped; spray my hair black (im blonde); i bought a black beret and white cloves; and im gonna paint my face white (with black or red lipstick).
Any other mime ideas?
Again I would just like to give props to shieryda for figuring out what a mime and hippie were gonna be (peace and quiet) and lokizz for figuing out what i was going to be at a party where i dont feel like taking much (a mime). Way to go you princes of new england and last queens of scotland. Buncha smart a$$es in here.
