I posted a classified ad locally offering to buy games, and someone asked how much I'd pay for those. I gave him some prices for each item and he actually cut it down a bit to 140. He was really happy with the deal, and said he had a couple friends with some classic stuff who also wanted to sell. So hopefully I'll get some more great deals.

I didn't mention it before, but everything was in excellent condition, even the NES games. No major scratches, no peeling (that I noticed), nothing. Only thing was the Genesis box was a bit ripped. Still in pretty good shape, even so.

The SNES was one where I responded to a classified ad. Haven't heard back from the person, though. We had agreed to meet tomorrow but hadn't set a time, so I hope they aren't having second thoughts. They seemed real cool, though, like they just wanted to pass it on to someone who could appreciate it, so I'm hopeful.

great finds. good luck on tomorrow too with that snes.
lain21us,

just curious how many responses you had to your ad? I've been thinking about doing that myself,
diddo on the question.

I'm curious about how the ad went as well. I've been pondering a way to get the word out that I'd be willing to pay cash for games myself. But I was kind of worried soliciting the general public might not be legal or something? (Probably just a silly worry.)

Anyway I recently sold a Knuckles Chaotix CIB for $30 on eBay (sold with BIN in under a day)

I've been getting a lot of responses, via e-mail. I'm probably averaging ten each day. Of those 10, maybe 2 of the people have stuff that I want, and are interested in selling their stuff for what I'm willing to pay. I had to change my ad to say that I didn't want any PS1, PS2, GameCube, or Xbox games. People were offering me too much crap, but nobody wanted to sell the stuff for less than twice what it was worth. Here's some of my recent responses:

=================================

PSOne (mini playstation) console w/ box + manual

three sony dual-shock controllers
seven games w/ jewel cases + manuals:

I offered this guy $35 and got a nasty e-mail back from him.

I haven't made him an offer. I don't really want any of that crap, but I'll probably do it if it's real cheap. What do you guys think I should offer?

================================

I'm also waiting for a call to meet a guy for a Japanese GameCube with Japanese Wind Waker game for $50.

Yeah, so, a tip for any CAGs who are gonna try this. Put in the ad that you only want old games. You'll get a better deal and you're less likely to get a bunch of crappy responses.

Just got an offer on a Fairchild system with 12 games and an SNES w/6:

Super Marioworld
Disney's Alladdin
F-Zero
Super Wrestle Mania
Street Fighter II
Top Gear 3000

What should I offer for both?

UPDATE:
All games in include manuals, including the Fairchild games! ^^
I offered $40. We'll see what she says.

I appreciate the info, very useful stuff.

The guy with ESPN NFL 2K5 and NBA Street Vol. 2's offer wasn't too bad, some of the others are kind of funny.

So am I correct in assuming that you just put an e-mail in the ad and not a phone number?

Sweetness there...Top Gear 3000 is the cat's ass!

Plus as someone who's been buying / collecting for years...it may sound terrible, but always go for the lowball offer and work from there not to mention that I always try to play off that the considerably older stuff is usually not very sought after...I'd say fair market value for the Fairchild is approx $40 - I'd lowball that and try to score it for ~$15 or less, and then go from there if I decided I really wanted it.

Good to hear you're having good luck with your ad placement. Out of curiosity, do you live in a larger metropolitan area? or a smaller town / area? I personally live in an area of approx 15,000 people and have been a little hesitant to put an ad in the local paper because I don't really want to "tip my hand" so to speak. I don't have a lot of local competition that I'm aware of - my Target isn't picked over, I can find rare stuff at the local EB and Gamestop fairly regularly, plus I also score some fantastic flea market finds because very few people are aware of what things can be worth. I've scored up some absolutely insane deals like $20 Vectrex's, $5 Nomads, etc. As a result, I often think that running an ad here might clue some people in that there is an active market for this stuff ...cutting into my potential scores. What do you guys think? (at the risk of threadjacking)

wubb, that's correct, just the e-mail. I'd lose my mind if I had people calling me all day long wanting to run off a list of 20 games or so each.

daikaiju, your deals make mine look pretty standard. :)
I live in a very highly-populated area. In such a small area as you live in, if you've got a good thing going, don't ruin it by cluing your whole town in. Think of it from a business perspective. Right now you have a near-monopoly. Anyone who doesn't know what their stuff is worth is gonna clear out that garage eventually, either at the flea market, EB, or whatever, and you'll be able to snag their goods. If people start to look at what your'e doing and realize how crazy your deals are, you're going to have some competition. That's my advice anyhow. For the Fairchild and SNES, I offered 40 straight up because I think it's all worth 80-90, and I don't want to scare someone away right off the bat. She just counter-offered for $45, by the way. I'm gonna try to talk her down to $42 and see if I can get her to come drop it off.

UPDATE: Just got a call from the Japanese GameCube guy. Gonna go pick it up on Saturday. Forgot to ask what color it was. hehe

Here's an e-mail I just got:

I'm looking to sell all of my video game systems... $1500 for all this complete with games, accessories, and a system selector to plug all this stuff in to!

I am not firm on the asking price, but I do want something close to it.
The retail value of everything in well over $2000!!!

All of the items are in great shape, all but a few have their original cases and instruction manuals. All of the accesories are the authentic Sony/Nintendo/Sega equipment, so no cheap knock-off controllers or anything. Every system and game has been tested, and they still work like new.

Here is a list of everything I'm looking to sell...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Playstation2 w/ 2 Controllers, Memory Card, Network Adapter

Here's a deal I got the other day:

Dreamcast Stuff, All mint (I think):
Sega Sports Console
1 Sega Sports Controller
1 Regular Controller
2 VMUs
Soul Caliber
House of the Dead 2
Capcom VS SNK
Street Fighter 3: Double Impact
Crazy Taxi
Grandia 2
Phantasy Star Online
Skies of Arcadia
Shenmue
The King of Fighters Dream Match 1999
Street Fighter Alpha 3
Psychic Force 2012
The Grinch
NFL2K
NBA2K
Tomb Raider- The Last Revelation

I think that $40 for both systems / games is a reasonable offer. And as far as my deals go...trust me, they aren't always quite so sweet - but those are a couple recent ones that stand out. :)
Games (all complete except Streets of Rage, which is cart only):
Sonic the Hedgehog
...
Moral Kombat II
That's some pretty rare stuff, man. Do you know where can I find Moral Kombat? 8)

Sweet, that chick's on her way over with my new SNES and Fairchild system for $41. She says the Fairchild games all include manuals and are in excellent condition. LMAO, imagine if they were mint!

Moral Kombat's not for trade, sorry. ;)

Congrats and enjoy!

Nice score on that stash - well worth the $41. The Fairchild is a ubercool piece of nostalgia. Keep me in mind if an SNES Pocky and Rocky 2 turns up in one of your scores :D

...heh...and Moral Kombat - wasn't that the SNES version ?

Just picked up 3 SNES games for 8 bucks at a thrift store:

Super Mario All Stars
Super Metroid
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
