My dad just wants to shoot stuff...

CAGiversary!
My dad hasn't really played games with me since duck hunt and SMB on the NES. Recently hes played a few games on and off on the PC, starting with that dinosaur hunting game a while back, beachhead 2000, a little bit of painkiller (he just stands in the corner and shoots whatever comes at him) and most recently the godfather game (he dies alot, but brags about his extortion adventures).

On the wii he has been really enjoying tennis and bowling, with a little boxing thrown in when his back can take it (he gets over excited). He keep asking about shooters on the wii and I want to know from people who have them, which would be better suited for him: CoD3 or Red Steel?

I never liked far cry on anything so im not about to pay for the awful looking wii version. I do eventually want to try red steel, but if there are too many control glitches it may be too hard for him. How is CoD3? I would rather have it on the PC for multiplayer and keybaord/mouse controls, but would consider getting it for the wii if I think he will enjoy it. How do the controls hold up on this one? and how difficult is it?

Also, are blockbuster and similar places renting wii games already? It might be worth it to give em both a shot. Right now I think we both would just want duck hunt on the VC >>

Thanks for the help!

Blockbuster is renting games, I'd give both Red Steel and CoD3 a rent.

Red Steel is pretty good, I think. The destructable environments are especially well done. But the sword fights break up the gunplay action and may be annoying to your dad. I've not played CoD3, but I tend to shy away from the gritty, "real" shotting games. If I get shot I'd rather just find a health pack and move on, not have to drag myself to a medic on my forearms. ;)

Wii Play, coming Jan 15, does have at least one shooting minigame akin to Duck Hunt. And the ESRB has been rating a number of Zapper and Super Scope games so it's likely we'll see light gun games on the VC using the Wiimote. :)

That game was fucking amazing. Remember that frog type mech. I remember the sequel as well. Oh man I cannot believe I forgot about that game.

I own both CoD3 and Red Steel.

I've played Red Steel more, but that's more just because I want to get it beat so I can sell it quicker. It's somewhat fun once you hit about the 2 hour mark, and it's got one of the funnest levels I've played in an FPS.(exploding bunnies one)

CoD3 is probably about what you'd expect. It's really good if you're into WW2 shooters, but if online is something you really want you should go with the PC/X360/PS3 versions. I'm also guessing the graphics a bit better on the other systems, but they're still quite good on the Wii.

The controls for both games are pretty good, but just make sure you're pretty centered to the screen, or else the cursor might go a little zany when you go to aim to the sides(probably not a problem if you're used to sitting to the side or something).

I'd probably suggest CoD3 first, just because the Red Steel swordfights slow it waaay down. Also Red Steel is a really really generic shooter. The controls are pretty much what saves it.
