My girlfriend and EB
Azel, district managers don't require much education, but the district manager in my area is a graduate of Northwestern University...they get paid like 95k per year. It's not too bad of a job.

It's a lot of fun working at EB. This one time, I had a customer call on a phone asking about a game and after I told him all I knew about it (from playing it), he was like "Now can I get a GUY on the phone who actually PLAYS GAMES?" I also get a lot of guys who come in who are like "why are you working here? you don't play games!" or when I tell them about games, they assume it's because I heard about it from one of my coworkers. Occassionally, I get the "I bet you suck because you're a girl" people; back when we were allowed to play during our breaks, I enjoyed using that time period to kick some people's butt, lol.

One time, a lady came in with her son and started going off on how gaming was such a "guy thing" and that no "DECENT girl" would ever play games. I was like "well, some girls do play certain games..." because I didn't want to be rude but didn't enjoy being insulted either. She picked up a Halo 2 strategy guide we had by the counter and was like "well, all I know is that any GIRL who plays THIS should be shot!" That was the day after I pulled an all-nighter playing Halo 2 on XBOX Live.
I'm so immature. I couldn't get past the section I bolded without laughing a little.
I really need to learn how to stop looking for even slight innuendo in what I'm reading.

I am not a chauvinist in any way, but I think it's still seen as "Cute" when girls play games. It's a problem with the change in the market. Games used to be played by dorky pre-teenage boys who would have been more than happy to have females involved in their game-playing, but nowadays a majority of games are being played by overmuscled idiots. (No offense to you overmuscled idiots out there).

Where else do we see these types? Sports. Tell me taht people don't automatically assume females to be inferior in that arena too. But times are changing, and as female athletes and gamers become more visible, even the steroid-charged roid-rage types have to sit down and take notice.

So by process of hypothetical syllogism, the logical conclusion arises:

SOON WOMEN WILL RULE THE WORLD. AND GAMES. AND STUFF.

I just wanna say that in my experiences working at gamecrazy, all the female gamers that have come in have been more respectful, more knowledgable, more hygenic, and more intelligent than almost all the guy gamers that come in smelling like white trash. So when a girl comes in my store looking for a game, I consider it a nice break from smelly, disheveled morons coming in to chat about wrestling games for 30 min while I could be getting things done.

I just wish my girlfriend would get with the program and at least try some games..

*the above posts contains vague generalities and should not be taken seriously by anyone*
4 things.
most girls dont play video games, its a valid question.
is this "girlfriend" you speak of real?
shut up.
who cares.
The mans blunt but he has a valid point.

From the sounds of it, most guys assume if you have breasts, that you don't know crap about games.

But know that's not true, cause there's a girl that works at the Game Crazy I go to that knows a lot more than any of the guys that work there. Plus she's pretty hardcore with fighting games. I feel sorry for all the guys that come up there just to hit on her(last time I was there, she had a 15 year old hitting on her).

'less it's man breasts, then they assume they know about games. hehe...

Of course it's not true. DLF probably knows something about videogames.

Like I said, my soon to be brother-in-law's sister is in to Madden (hardcore), and its not that big a deal other than the fact it is always nice to have another person to play against. Just because a girl plays games and is attractive doesn't mean every little mealy mouthed kid or adult should lose their minds about it. She is just a gamer like anyone else. If all you want in life is a cute girl who can kick your ass in Halo 2 then you really need to check yourself. It's nice to share like hobbies but be sensible about it.

Being knowledgeable about gaming isn't a prerequisite for working at EB/GS. Male or female.

My cousin worked at EB for around a year, and he didn't know the slightest thing about gaming. The managers gave him his "script" to say everytime someone came in, and if people had any questions, he'd just talk about popular games they wanted to sell. Lol.

Basically, they just want someone who will accept a part-time job with lousy pay, with constantly changing and inflexible hours.

I don't mean to bag on all EB/GS employees, though. 70% of them are always nice and pleasant to deal with. I'm even friends with a few of them. And they don't hit on me too often. The other about 29% obviously hate their job, and ignore everyone who walks in the store, unless the manager is there. Which I can understand.

Lol... I know about that all too well.

During my 198 match winning streak in TopSpin online, I got crazy kids whining all the time. Another reason I hate online gaming. If there's a game where I can't turn off the option to hear the opponent's headset... odds are that will kill the game entirely for me.

There's 4 people who work at my local EB, i'm pretty good friends with 3 of them.. the other one doesn't work when I usually go.

They all go out of their way to get games I want. They have my list, if any game gets traded in they hold it. Whenever I show up when the manager is there, he will search for the games on my list in his computer.. seeing if any store in a 200 mile radius has it. Not a bad guy.

I always avoid my gamestop though.. the people there are complete assholes. Luck of the draw I suppose.

Exactly. I have a feeling that corporate would rather have someone that is polite, punctual and well groomed than someone who would be "knowledgable".

That's why I will at times turn off the headset and mute the TV.
Oddly, this seems to happen on Halo 2 more than most other games.

I've never really had a major problem with Gamestop or EB in that respect of being a woman gamer. The Gamestops around here I hardly go to anymore but a couple years ago (2 or 3?) I was trying to get Pokemon Pinball for my gameboy and I saw Gamestop had it for sale for $3. This was before I knew about the EB site, so I drove to a neighboring city to get it. When I tried buying it at the store, there were two employees. One of them asked me if I had a GBA and tried to tell me that Pokemon Pinball wouldn't work with it. The other guy and I just looked at him. He was obviously thinking of Kirby Tilt N Tumble or something else, but still I don't really like it when people start to question why I'm buying something. At that time I only had the GBA and not my SP so Tilt N' Tumble would have worked anyway.

I usually go shopping with my bf and he makes me ask for the games. The employees at my EB are usually pretty friendly towards me since I ask for some of the better games like Wario Ware and Katamari Damacy. I remember when I bought Wario Ware, the other clerk at EB didn't know what it was so another one went in the back and got it and was telling him how great of a game it was. It definately made me feel better because my boyfriend has a tendency to make fun of me for picking the "weird" games with "unpronouncable" titles. He did the same thing when I went to buy Katamari Damacy. We went to GameCrazy first and the clerk there was so excited when I asked about it (they didn't have it though). My bf was kinda embarrassed since he was loudly critizing the game I wanted because of it's title. You'd think he would have learned by now. He doesn't really take my interest in games seriously although I play more than he does.

What I don't like is how I'm treated when I walk into Home Depot though. I've needed a couple things since I also do artwork and I'm not really taken seriously by the employees. Even when my bf is there, he makes me ask for the stuff. I've tried to tell him that he should ask because people would automatically assume that he knows what he's talking about...but...ugh....

Yeah, it's like people are either really nice or really pains in the ass. There is almost no middle ground. Some people are blasting Godawful music so I have to mute. The thing that gets me is that before each match a lot of people just start saying off the wall crap like they are trying to outdo each others weirdness or something.

SadieDee it sounds like your bf is enjoying seeing how people react. You should get him on "Girls Behaving Badly" on the Oxygen network and prank him! :whistle2:$

I couldn't stand it, the three month thing I bought was never even used up. the headset is sitting in a pile of things i'm going to trade in. where do all those annoying little freaks come from?...granted, I picked it up right before the last blizzard, expecting to be homebound (and wasn't really thinking all those bratty kids would be homebound too), but I never used it to play my friends as much as I thought, if i want to talk to them, i'll call them or im them, if I want to play them, we'll get together. I liked Mechassault 2 the most, but there's just no need for xbox live for me.

thats why i don't play with a headset for Halo 2.

My wife is a gamer, sort of. She isn't like a GAMER hardcore, but she is who bought the Gamecube and she is the one that bullied me into splitting PS2 with her at launch.

She plays platformers (along with some GTA), Mario Kart, racing games, and some other misc stuff like Pikmin and The Sims. She plays a little RPGs but she tends to have a short attention span - she gets stuck and moves on to something else. She did play through Super Mario RPG, and she really wants to get Paper Mario when it gets cheaper. She doesn't play fighting games, strategy games, or FPS though (not that lucky).

She always has guys hitting on her in stores (especially if I'm not standing near her). One of the workers at Wizzywigs Anime store in Ann Arbor was totally following her around and hitting on her (she buys LOTS of anime). Guys at EBgames do it too, until I come wandering back to talk to her about something.

It's funny to watch, really.

I hate home depot to, but for the opposite reason. They think I know what the hell I'm talking about because I'm a guy. I used to work at sears and twice (due to there being no one else to cover the shit) I got stuck working in hardware. The craftsman tools have a lifetime warranty and when someone brings them in we throw the major ones (screwdrivers, hammers, wrenchs and pliers) in specific bins. Problems was, I didn't know the difference between a wrench and pliers. Luckily my boss barely knew only a tiny bit more than me about hardware and he didn't laugh at me. And I was also lucky the customers accepted it when I told them I have no idea what I'm doing and then I'd direct them to someone who did, if they were around, no one got upset or even seemed that suprised. I've used tools a few times, but not for normal things (basically setting up electronics, using them in ways they weren't really meant to be used), but have no idea what they're called since no one has ever shown me. My father isn't much better, he knows what the stuff is but doesn't know what to do with it. When I got a nintendo for christmas as a kid it took him about 4 hours to set the things up (I'm not kidding, it really did take that long AND he was using the manual). The grandfather could fix anything though.
