I don't know if anyone else has had these problems but here are mine:
1. The first player I had worked for a month and than began to freeze 5-7 times per movies, if it was a regualr DVD I would play the same one in my xbox that froze on the HD-DVD addon and it wouldn't freeze on my xbox. DVDs were clean and brand new.
1st encounter-
Here is the story timeline. I bought a HD-dvd add on 02-06-07. It worked until mid march. I shipped it out, paid 12.00 for shipping, microsoft recieved on 03-16-07. I waited 10 business days because the CSR told me I'd have it back in 10 days. I called everyday for 10 days they could tell me nothing. I talked a minimum of a hour each time on the phone. Finally I spoke to a supervisor, he made me send me proof of delivery. OMG, they magically find one to send me after they act like I sent nothing in.
I recieved it on 04-26-07. MORE THAN A MONTH LATER after tons of calls.
2nd encounter-
I used to HD-dvd player for a week. It began freezing too, and the xbox would play them perfectly fine. It would do this with HD-dvd and regular dvds on the HD-DVD add on. I've heard that some HDdvds are bad for freezing like Children of Men. So I'm aware it could be normal, but it would freeze on any and every dvd 5-7 times per movies. So I called a csr on 5-08-07, they said they would send a prepaid box. I waited two weeks and called "where's the box"?? It's in the mail they replied, on 5-18-07. I waited 5 more days. On 5-23-07, "we don't give boxes for hd-dvd"
So I sent the thing in myself after 3 weeks of waiting for nothing. They recieved it on 05-28-07. Waited 10 business days, called, they don't have any info on it. I'm suppose to have the damn thing in my hands by now. Called at least 6 more different days, by some divine intervention they find it. I recieve it on 06-22-07 another 10 bussiness days that turns into a month.
I open it the next day, there is no bubble wrap on the bottom of it. As I pick it up, stuff rattles on the inside of it( metal or plastic), I'm like "OH, great!" I plug it in. The open close button flashes continously. I press it. I hear grinding noises like it's try to open but doesn't open. I call CSR, while they want me to get the serial # off it, 3rd different # I've had, I tip it forward to read. The drive opens up by itself without me pressing anything! I precede to try and close it. NOW the damn thing won't close. This was on 06-23-07.
3rd encounter-
Now they tell me someone will call me back 24-48hrs later which means MOnday by noon. No one ever calls. Call on Monday. They say someone will call back tonight and they can call up until 12 am est. I had to stay up until 12 when I had to get up at 5 for work. No call back. I call back Tuesday 06-26-07, they say someone will call me today between 10am-12pm.
The CSR assured me they would call my cell and home phone. I told them I wouldn't be home. Guess what, they call my house and no cell. They tell me to call back though. I call back and they say my "case manager" isn't there. She will call me tomorrow between 10-12.
I still have a broken hd-dvd( with the door open on it) and they won't allow me to send it. THis is BS! I'm never buying this again. I may never buy anything microsoft again. If you buy it, beware. If you send it out for warranty beware.
I will update a solution if I'm ever given one, if not I might just throw this junk in the trash and cut my losses.
