My HDMI won't work on my PS3

I was wondering if the PS3 has a problem with the HDMI setting. I got a cheap HDMI cable from amazon and plugged it in and it worked fine for about a week. Then the screen when blue and said no signal when I went to turn it on. I reset the system and put it back on HDMI and I got a signal and then the screen went blue again. The HDMI port on the PS3 seems loose and I was wondering if anyone else had this problem and how they fixed it.

Sometimes it's the cable, sometimes it's the port. I know my HDMI port is pretty solid on both my PS3 and my tv but I'm also using cables guaranteed to work up to a stupid amount of over-engineering. I know my cousin had an HDMI cable from Verizon that would crap out until he swapped it for one from his XBox elite and it worked fine after that. The HDMI port should be snug, not really loose and movable, if you can move the connector while it's plugged in, you may want to try some tape as a temporary measure until you can get it repaired.

You'll be guessing at it until you pick up a different cable and give that a try versus your existing cable. If you have another TV at your place you can try, do that as well.

I would suggest picking up a new HDMI from monoprice.com for a couple bucks to rule out the cable. And who knows maybe it is the cable and you will have a quality HDMI cable for cheap and have fixed your problem. If not, you have a great spare for cheap. Monoprice's prices are cheap but their stock is quality. Good luck on troubleshooting.

You get what you pay for. Though you don't need gold plating a cheap cable is bound to cause problems.

I almost always buy cheap hdmi cables, I've not had a problem - but it's not out of the question that the cable could be causing the problem. I'd spend the $2.99 + shipping for a new one just to see if that's the issue... I really hope it's the cable and not the port though.

While this might be true to an extent, even Monoprice cables work extremely well. So you really have to try to find cheap enough cables that that will give you problems. I've seen some at Wal-Mart that are oddly thin and flimsy looking, but short of that I think you're safe with most cables.

I'll post this in here since it's the same subject.

I got a 10ft long HDMI cable last week. I had been using a component cable but wanted to go to HDMI since it's better and I'd probably need one sometime in the future so I figured I'd get it now to use.

The problem is, when I turn my PS3 on and go to the proper setting, the PS3 takes forever to show up on the screen. I'm on the right input and there's no Component cable plugged in. I don't know how it just turns up.

I bought this cable on Amazon for $4. I haven't tested another output or different cables yet.

EDIT: Tried another cable. It's definitely the cable that's the problem. At first, the screen was flickering between black and having the HDMI 2 input label at the top. Then it just showed the HDMI 2 at the top like nothing was plugged in. Tried another cable and got picture.

Never buy eforcity cables. Mine didn't even last a week. From now on, it's Monoprice all the way.

 While that may be true sometimes, why pay above $5 for a cable when a cable is a cable is a cable? I got my current HDMI in the package with my HD monitor I'm using with my PS3, but if need be I still have two packages of the Sony HDMI cables from when Kmart clearanced them from $80 to $8 a couple of years ago.:D

Although my one buddy had issues getting my Dualshock 3 I gave his family last year with a Sony USB charging cable, so it doesn't always pay to pay for name brands.
