Last night my laptop, while in its padded case, fell from about 3 feet in the air and hit the concrete just right. The screen is the classic all white with a bit of black and some blue hues, classic screen-cracked with 100% functioning everything else.

I slipped an LCD home pc monitor over my open laptop ATM and it works pretty good, but portability and bed-surfing is out of the question.

Assuming the stories were true about it costing more to replace the LCD than it would to buy a new laptop, I was searching for a new one, but then came across this article just now:

My current laptop is still perfect and loaded with XP, so I have no reason to buy a new one. It's an an HP dv6105us Entertainment Notebook PC, bought it IIRC 3 years and about 3 days ago.

If someone has recently gone through this or just feels like being helpful, I would really appreciate a link or two to a good place to buy my replacement. I know I need the exact info from the back of my LCD, but I haven't gotten that far yet. I'll tinker with it in the next few days, once I have that info, I'll begin more detailed searches to finalize the process.

Just for fun, here's a pic of my "new" setup:

I'll definitely be doing it myself, it seems 10x simpler than something like replacing a DS screen. eBay will be my last resort, but $100 is the target price I'm looking for.

Replacing an LCD panel isn't too hard if you're handy with a set of jeweler's screwdrivers and you take your time.

The one time I've had to do this, I bought a pulled (used) panel from an ebay seller without incident. Probably not useful information, but I bought mine from...

Alrighty, I ordered a new one from eBay for $92 shipped from this auction. I called them up first to verify that they do indeed answer their phone and to verify that the DV6100 is ok for a DV6105us (seems to be pretty universal for 100's of HP laptops).
