My Rez incident

I was at a EB just browsing around when I overhead a customer ask if the store had a copy of Rez for PS2. Thats when I interjected that there was no way that they would have one because that would have been snatched up so quicky. We both had a laugh as the eb guy said that he could actually look it up and even tell us if any of the local stores had a copy.

Was very surprised to hear him say, 'You know what, the EB at the other mall actually has one. It lists for $44.95. If you want it, you better hurry, they close in 20 minutes. ' Me and the other guy looked at each other very surprised and he said that since he was on foot, I should go and get it.

So I race over to the mall and get there about 10 minutes before it closes. I go right to the front counter and ask if they had a preowned rez. The guy looks kind of confused and says hes not sure and that he'll have to look it up on the computer. After some button pushing and asking me how to spell it, he says that he couldnt find it. Another employee overhears this and comes over and asks to let him try, that he was sure there should be one because had taken one in and that it had given him problems. Apparently the system couldnt find the SKU and he had to manually find it and pull up a trade value.

The first guy seems kind of upset as the second associate begins to type. Sure enough he says that there is 1 in the store and asks me to go find the case on the wall and he would get it out of the drawer. As he's about to open the drawer, the first guy who originally tried to find it for me tells him that the game is actually behind the glass where the new games were. Thats when i started to get suspicious. Something definitely up after this guy went through the whole charade of not knowing how to spell the game to instantly knowing that it was behind the glass.

The first associate says that he'll ring it up for me while the second assiciate closes up. While hes ringing me up, all of a sudden he blurts out, 'oh, i think this is being held for someone.' I give him this confused stare as he starts to tell me 'if you want, you can leave your name and number, and if he doesnt pick it up tommorow, you can get it.' At this point I figure this was for him all along and I basically have no shot at picking this up. The second associate even says, 'sorry man' as he locks the door behind me as I leave.

So I'm kinda bummed and get home. Decide to see how much they were going on ebay to see what my alternatives are, when i noticed something. The picture of the case that was at the EB doesnt match the pictures on the ebay auctions. The pictures for the US Rez has a distinct red front; the one I saw at the eb was darker. After looking around, I see that this is probably a PAL or JAP copy that someone had traded in. Makes sense that they had problems scanning it in when it was originally traded it since it wasnt a US SKU.

So I guess in the end it turned out for the better. I hope that bastard has fun with his import Rez.
