My sad Rhapsody tale

Ok, I went a little trip today to a bunch of game stores just looking for various stuff. My main goal was a cheap PSone LCD screen, but that was a total bust.

Then just when the day was looking like it would be a total loss I found a copy of Rhapsody: A musical Adventure at a gamestop. I opened it up to make sure it had the instructions and it did! I thought I had just made an awesome score, as gamestop charges around 30$ for it. Then my hopes were shattered, the girl went to get the discs and only got 1 disc. It was a 2 disc game and they only had 1 disc. So I had to pass it up, thinking what good is disc 1 without disc 2. So the rest of the day I was pissed because of it.

Then I got to thinking, I wonder if disc 2 was just a bonus disc. Turns out it was. I had never seen Rhapsody in person before so I had clue that disc 2 was just a soundtrack disc.

So I raced back to the gamestop store about 5 hours later flying down the freeway, weaving in and out of traffic praying they still had it. I figured they must have it, it probably went into a defective bin or something and that my odds were probably pretty high, since it had been hidden behind the counter all day. I go in and ask, and the guy said "oh yeah Rhapsody, I just mailed it back since it was missing a disc" Nooooooooooo. So close....Twice.... Goddamn it, that game will forever mock me.

I got rhapsody for 20$ at walmart, got valkyrie profile same day there for 20$, oh how that was a lucky day 4 years ago, no idea they would be rare. Rhapsody is nothing special, its rare and all, but to play not worth $30, just good to sell. I think its the shortest rpg I have ever played, it was like 12 hours or something.
Tell her to get it back or something and call you when it comes in.
Would they actually do that?

I think they might. It's worth the time to make a phone call to ask, isn't it?

Not sure if they'd call it back to the store, but they'd call you when they get one in, yeah. I see the employees call people all the time at the local GameCrazy to tell them a certain game or system has arrived.

Oh crap I just saw a new copy at my wal-mart a couple week back when I was going christmas shopping. The game was in clearance bin with alot of crap in it. So is this game rare or something? I also saw Strench panic... something (game from working design).

Or you could have GameCrazy find the game for you if it's anywhere in the country for an extra $6.

Yeah I'm probably going to try and pick it up tonight at wal-mart. My wal-mart is now open 24 hours, but the thing is there clearance bin is like 4 feet deep and most of the psone game are at the way bottom.

Not really just that ... it was a bargain bin game for the most part. It got marked down like crazy at one point at some of the retailers I was frequenting at the time.

It's really a crappy RPG, but it's got a distinct Japanese style to it that people find attractive ... and it got low prints to boot.

Wasn't there an sequel to that on the PS2. Or is that a different game? This game have a red hair guy with a guitar and I think it was from konami. So does anybody know WTF I'm talking about? If so is that game worth $20.

You're thinking of Ephemeral Phantasia. And no, it has not a thing to do with Rhapsody.

Also, in regards to getting the game mailed back to that same GameStop: to my knowledge, that's impossible through GameStop. Even if it is determined that the game is resellable, the chances of it coming back to that same GS are slim to none.

Welcom to the CAG family, ass.

Rhapsody is by the makers of Phantom Brave, Disgaea and La Pucelle. It was also featured on X-Play recently as being one of the games with the worst music. I think the music is so bad it's good the lyrics are ridiculous and the singing is hard to describe - you can tell they are really trying but they just aren't that good.

what a total douchebag... hopefully you use that money and get yourself some hooked-on-phonics

Anyway... I happened across quite a few copies of Valkyrie Profile and Legend of Mana at a TRU a few years ago, had I only known how tricky they'd be to find today... needless to say I passed them both up.

Rhapsody has 2 sequels. One called Little Princess for PS1 and Tenshi no Present for the PS2. Neither of which made it to the US though :p

I think y'all are being too quick to jump on Redcar. We have no proof that he actually bought the games, he could be joking. This would mean he is a shmuck, rather than the ass that everyone assumes he is. Give him the benefit of the doubt.

Is Legend of Mana hard to come by? I'm pretty sure I have seen a few factory sealed copies. I don't think they are cheap, though, probably still at MSRP.

I've seen too many rare games before they become rare. I really sometimes kick myself because I never bought them. They were all brand new too. I remember seeing the OPs game many times along with star ocean 1 and 2. Also saw many Lunar 1 and 2 back then.

I really enjoyed Rhapsody. Yea, it's a beginner's RPG, but it's so quircky that it's fun. And the music isn't bad, it's hillarious. It's the only (afaik) musical RPG. They break into song like it's a Disney flick. :p

Star ocean for psone is all over the place around here, though used of course. A few months before disgaea came out (when rhapsody sold for about 50 and 70 for a sealed one) I saw two at eb for $20. I bought one for me, then when I realized it was worth money I went back for the other, but it was gone. Months later I saw a sealed copy at a local video game store for $35 and bought it. Noticed it wasn't on ebay at the moment and starting bid at 60 and buy it now at 70. People starting bidding, and in the last 5 seconds of the auction it jumped from 70 to $130. A week later I went back and found another one, and since there still wasn't one on ebay I was able to sell it for $125 buy it now. The point? At the time I thought I got much more than they were worth, now looking back I think I undersold.

Ok, this thread got me searching again. There isn't one near me, but a GS in my parents' city has a copy, with soundtrack. No instructions, photocopied rear insert, and described over the phone by the employee as 2 minor marks on the game disc, one on the soundtrack. He also quoted me $24.99 as the price over the phone. As a completest, I prefer games that have everything, and are immaculate, but I'm not sure I can pass this up. I'd have to convince my parents to go pick it up for me, I'm sure they'd be willing, just not sure they could today (I asked the guy to hold it, and I told him I'd call back if they couldn't make it). Opinions? Should I hold out for complete?

Also, is GS running any specials, b2g1 or anything right now?

Bump. Ok, sorry for bumping so soon, but this is kind of time-sensitive.

Edit: I decided to go for it, even though it is not complete, and my dad is being pretty cool about it. He's on his way to the store now. They don't have any promotions that would help the price, but that isn't a big deal.

I don't think it's that hard to come by, it just tends to go for $30-$40 sealed.

Don't feel to bad, I once sold a mint copy of suikoden 2 for $13, then I sold GG for less than $10, and finally, to top it all off, I gave Rival Schools away!!
