Allnatural

CAGiversary!
So I pick up Venture Bros. season 3 on DVD yesterday, and when I open it later that night I find that disc 1 is scratched up quite a bit (disc 2 was fine). It was as if someone had taken a piece of sandpaper and scuffed a spot the size of a quarter. When I exchanged it today, I opened the new copy before leaving. Disc 1 was fine, but disc 2 was scratched in a similar way, and a couple of the proofs-of-purchase had been removed. I asked the CSR if the cases are open when BB receives them (all the copies were shrink-wrapped). She insists that they're sealed when they come off the truck. Fine, so I grab a third and again the second disc is all scratched. Unreal.

She said I could grab another, but I felt silly opening up a fourth copy, justified or not. Another CSR suggested that I mix and match from the three sets I had. Great idea!

So yeah, I finally have two discs in good condition. What's up with QC these days?

Too many people getting laid off? :whistle2:k
You scared me there. I actually ran over to check my copy. Thankfully, there is no scratches.
Lucky you. More and more of the optical media I buy these days (games, CDs, blu-ray) have imperfections (scratches, smudges). It's usually minor, so I don't make a stick about it, but these Venture discs were in really bad shape.

A similar thing happened to me when Casino Royale was released on DVD.
I went to Target and got the 2disc version. When i got home and opened it, there were two copies of the disc 2 (special features) and none of the disc 1 (movie).
I took it back to exchange it, and they did with no problem.
She opened the dvd (so i couldn't return it as new) and it had the same problem.
I went and grabbed 3 more copies, all had the same problem.
At this point I just asked for my money back, but they couldn't because i had opened the item after i left the store.
I tried to explain that since they can't provide the item I actually wanted (the movie) it's irrelevant that I opened the item.
Management refused, so i insisted that I opened every copy of the movie in the store until i find one that had the correct discs.

Another 20 or so copies of the movie later, i finally had one that was correct.

While it would have been easier on you for Target to issue you a refund you did save them (and other customers) the hassle of dealing with all those defective copies of Casino Royale.

Ding! ding! ding! Winner winner, chicken dinner!

At the same time, the fact that there were so many defective copies, probably means that the shipment was probably bad too. In fact, it might have helped them in the sense that they'll send it back and get an exchange or refund instead of handling dozens of complaints from customers.

Thats odd b/c my girlfriend bought 102 Dalmations and the main title screen doesn't show, it is just a black screen with a red bar highlighting the black background. Everything else works fine, except for the main screen. I took it back to Best Buy for her and I got another one, same thing occured. She didn't care as long as the movie works so she just kept it but I found the problem with the disc to be very odd.

Ya, I have had several problems with optical media lately, I even bought a Thousand Foot Krutch CD a couple years ago that was empty. The store gave me a full refund though, I have also purchased several games from K-Mart that had the spindle that holds the disk broken, I now shake most games beofore I buy them.

I thought from the title this is going to be what happened to me...

I rented Bad Santa years ago. I got home, tossed it on the couch and got on the comp for a while. Around 9 or 10 I go to throw it in and find the case is locked still. Now, I don't drive. My grandfather drove me in town, and there was no reasonable way to get back to get it unlocked. So... I got out my X-Acto knife, sliced open the case for probably 15-20 minutes and got the disc out without damaging it. Luckily, my bro still had 2 or 3 empty cases he bought from them, so I swapped it out.

I took it back a day or two later and explained the situaton to the clerk. She was shocked and then couldn't stop laughing as everyone had been told there was no way to get the DVD out without snapping it... (which seemed BS. Had I not been totally worried about salvaging the crappy rental label, I probably could've had the thing out in five minutes.) I got a free rental out of it... (which I used on an out of stock guaranteed movie that I gave to my friend before renting something else).
