I suspect theres been thread like this before but I couldnt find any quickly, so what attracted you to the N64 in the first place and whats in your collection now?

Originally I bought my N64 because my best freind at school had one and he worked for panasonic part time so hated anything Sony, i guess that rubbed of on me so I chose the N64 over the Playstation to replace my ageing Gameboy.

I sold my collection to buy my first car and then I saw a n64 in a junk shop for £14 (approx $20?). After that i tried to recreate my original collection of games but then it expanded to buying the games I always wanted but could not afford. I Paid £50 for zelda orginally and the second time around I paid £1.50.
Now the collection has become a bit of an obsession, i now own

When we got the PS1, we handed down the N64 (my brother's N64) wtith all our games and 2 controllers to my younger cousin in Mexico. Recently, I was in Mexico, so I brought it back to the U.S. What I like about the N64 is the design and the games.

I like the N64 games beacause they don't take long to start playing them. You can just pick up the controller and start playing it, unlike today's games. My current collection looks like

2 controllers, 1 gray and 1 black

Mortal Kombat
Pokemon Stadium 2
Soccer game
Yoshi's Story

I could go to ebgames and buy a tons of games for about $3 dollars, but they're mostly Madden and wrestling games. My goal right now is to get all the mario, zelda, pokemon, Banjo Kazooie etc. games.

Also, while in Mexico, I found my uncle's Atari 2600 with 20 different games. I didn't bring it back to the U.S. because it didn't fit in my suitcase.
 
Not a bad collection there, OP. And Holy Magic Century is a much better name than Quest 64, I'm jealous. My collection has some decent titles mixed in with alot of crap, but I'm proud of it nonetheless:

I used to have 40+ games for N64 but sadly, I traded most of them in during the years. The ones I have right now are the ones I plan on having forever.
 
The Nintendo 64 is one of my all time favorite systems. It did not have really any RPG games, which I am a large fan of, but the fun factor of the games it did have far surpassed many games from the previous, present, and now future games (present to us). The only bad things about the Nintendo 64 to me were that it had no RPG type games (something like Final Fantasy) and the controllers broke to easily (analog stick wore out too fast).

Not much more on Nintendo 64 was worth spending $60, $70, $80, or even $90 on back then to me. Also, nothing else really stands out that much to me after these games. Donkey Kong was decent, Diddy Kong Racing was nothing compared to Mario Kart, I hated Goldeneye, was never interested in Perfect Dark, and I am still waiting for Earthbound.

I was going to buy Paper Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and some other games to add to my collection but then Revolution came along. I'm still waiting for the prices on the virtual console before I buy anymore carts... and I just really hate the N64's analog stick.
 
Is there anyway to tell which games where released within the first 12 months? I was trying to buy every game released for the first year and almost did it, I didn't buy one tetris game (Though tetrisphere may be it, I'm not sure how I got it but if that's it I didn't have it for the first few years of the system) and one other game (think it's a soccer game). Other than that I have every game released in the first year.

Only problem is I can't remember if it's the first 12 months or if it's up until dec. 31 of the year it was released. I'd also like to figure that out.

GameFAQs lists the release date for games on their respective pages if that helps.
 
I have the rarest N64 available, the Limited Edition Gold one.

As do I, two of them. However its not THAT rare. The Pikachu one is pretty tough to find as well as some of the colored ones.

Ya, but their release dates are often wrong and I'd have to go through them individually. I'm too lazy for that.
 
I was really late to purchase the N64. I have a small collection of some really good games bought mostly through pawn shops and the Goodwill store. It will always hold a special place because it was the last of the cart consoles.
 
I think the strangest game for N64 was Mischief Makers. It was this side-scroller game that I don't even remember what you had to do. But it was one of the first N64 games, so my friend bought it and we were like "what the hell is this?"

I got my N64 shortly after launch (Christmas present). Super Mario 64 was the reason, of course.

Are you out of crack?! It's easily one of the most natural feeling controller ever! I think you meant to say "cosmetically unappealing".

If you look at it from the side, it has a convex curve. What shape does our hands tend to form when we squeeze and grab? Circular, convex. Aside from the d-pad, there are no straight lines in the design. Look at PS1 controllers from the side and you see straight lines that form perfect angles - human epidermis is not straight. PS2 is basically the same but with less weight. And Xbox controllers, I have never had to regrip the bottom and realign my thumbs to stay on the analog so many times until I started playing FPS for Xbox. And no, it is not a matter of "FPS requires quick reflexes and alot of pressing so you are bound to slip." What I do on Halo is nothing compared to what I used to do when I played Super Smash Bros Melee competitively and I've never slipped on a GCN.
 
I never liked the hollow feeling of the N64 controller. Its competitors felt much more solid. It had a lot of other great innovations behind it though, so as a first attempt, its flaws are easily forgivable, imo.

WRONG! You should open the cases of both a N64 controller and the PS1 (its competitor at the time). The plastic material that they use to encase the N64 controller is sturdier and as always, the circuit board, the buttons (you should really see for yourself) and the connectors (especially the analog stick connector) are very, very reliable and thick. What you call "solid" is the weight of the two motors that Sony COPIED from Nintendo's Rumble Pak when making the Dual Shock 1 controller. But that would be a discrepancy. It's all just added weight because since PS controllers didn't have a port, they had to opt to create it as part of the original circuit board, totally having to revise their system, advertisements, and publicity (hmm, I don't think that's solid). Let's just compare the original competitor controllers - the N64 and the original PS pistol, non-Dual Shock. Now, who's the more "solid" controller?
 
Yeah, I just picked up an original PS1 controller earlier this week. Holy crap, it's lighter than a feather, it's like I'm not holding anything at all.
