Namco Bandai's taking a unique approach to their Wii compilation, however, instead "remixing" a variety of classics to work with the Wiimote, allowing gamers to "whip, swing, twist and shake up the video game classics," according to IGN's reveal.

Namco Museum Remix will feature Remixed versions of Pac 'n Roll, Galaga, Rally-X, Gator Panic and Pac-Motos. We don't remember Pac-Motos being a classic -- or even a game at all -- but we'll follow for now. No word on whether we'll have access to the original versions of these games, but it's likely, as Namco's also tossing in Galaxian, Dig Dug, Mappy, Xevious, Gaplus, Super Pac-Man, Pac & Pal, Pac-Mania and Cute Q.
Sounds like the kind of game that could go horribly wrong.
I don't see how, really. There was nothing wrong with Namco Museum Battle Collection on PSP, for instance.
I guess I forgot the part about the waggle (added it to the OP):

Waggle+Old School games generally haven't gone well (Metal Slug Anthology) when trying to take advantage of the wii remote's waggle. A PSP port doesn't really compare to a Wii port in this case.

Well that changes everything.

Ugh, when will developers start using traditional configs in addition to the wii specific ones?

I'll pick this up when it's a clearance game (like every other stupid Namco collection) just for Pac N Roll.

Oh shit. I hope they make the "remix" version optional, and give us an option to play the classics classic-style with sideways remote and NO motion-shaking control.
Yeah, I'm so not picking this. Unless it retails for 10$.
Same, lol. Never really cared for arcade games, lol.

When presented with Namco Museum Remix, some of you may balk at the idea of yet another rehash of Pac-Man, Galaga and the rest of the Namco "standards." Well, we know the feeling. You can get those games á la carte on Xbox 360 or enjoy them on PS3 via backwards compatibility. But on Wii, it does make some fundamental sense: The only Namco arcade games on the system so far are the imperfect NES versions on Virtual Console, and the way the system draws in the casual crowd, it seems natural to bundle a bunch of simple, fun old games together.

But while the old games are a staple of the Museum series, the "Remix" in the title communicates the focus on remade versions of the arcade classics. Alongside 14 retro ports are five remixes of some of the games, all refitted to star Pac-Man. The early version we played at a Bandai Namco press event earlier this week only had a couple of them available: Galaga and Rally-X Remix. Galaga Remix goes from single-screen shooter to what amounts to a first-person version: Pac-Man rolls around in the background until a wave of enemy bugs swoop in, and all you do is aim a reticule and fire at them. It's cute, but there are lots of games sporting that style of play on Wii already, and it isn't as impressive in the face of the original version of Gaplus that's included -- the true (and truly awesome) sequel to Galaga.

We also played Rally-X Remix, which features Pac-Man behind the wheel (without any visible arms or legs!) of the Rally-X race car. This remix is much closer to the original game, and is even a bit meta, seeing as Pac-Man and Rally-X were contemporaries that played pretty similarly: Collect all the dots/flags in a maze while avoiding the enemies. You control your car with the Nunchuck, steering with the analog stick and using a new nitrous boost by pressing the Z button.

While Galaga uses a lot of bright neon colors to accentuate its fantastical space setting, Rally-X uses a more clean-cut style that, again, mimics the original. Though we couldn't sample the other remixes, they include Pac 'N Roll Remix (a feature-complete Wii version of the early DS game), Pac-Motos (you know, Motos: shoving tank-like opponents off of platforms in space) and Gator Panic Remix (the Whac-A-Mole-inspired arcade machine, but with alligators). Adding Pac-Man to the remixes makes it seem like these games weren't good enough without him before -- arguably so, but it still comes off odd.

Regardless, the games seem different enough from the originals to be interesting on their own, which is an improvement over the so-so "Arrangements" in the PSP Namco Museum. Some may think they've had enough '80s Namco games to last them another 20 years, but Namco's intention to put some heart into a few simple remakes is just one reason retro fans should give Namco Museum Remix a chance this fall.

Screens:

Super Pac-Man? AFAIK this will be the ONLY compilation/way to get that game in recent history.

As for the retro-remixes, where are the ones that actually make sense? Midway should be on this bandwagon with waggle for Paperboy and Root Beer Tapper.

I think the last time you could get Super Pac-Man was on the long gone Volume 2 of the Namco Museum (which also had Xevious) on the original Playstation. When the series went to Greatest Hits, they droped 2, 4 and 5. Super Pac-Man was released a few months back in a Pac-Man TV plug-in collection.

I'm hoping this game retails at $19.99, but somehow think they will try to milk it for $29.99 or $39.99.

I'd consider it for $20, but wasn't the PSP version $40 initially?

Pac 'n' Roll sounds like the only truly interesting thing, though Pac Rally X might be fun.

I really wish Namco would stop shoveling the same games over and over again, and the addition of Pac 'n' Roll seems to indicate even they think they're at the limit of "arrangement" or "remix" versions being compelling reasons to own this generation's vastly inferior "museum".

Ahh. So it has been at least a decade since it was available though.

Enough is enough with ANY more iterations of any retro or pseudo retro games on any platform. I'm going to pass on this one.

The overpriced and/or crap titles saddens this Wii owner -- who hasn't felt compelled to actually get a game yet. Go WiiSports...err not even that has seen the light of day.
