Name a band you can't believe you didn't know about sooner.

Thought this would be a good place to mention this. It's called the Music Maze. It lets you find other bands that are similar to bands you currently like. (Only it doesn't suck as much as Pandora.) Give it a try for some cool music you might not know about.

Looking through some of my music, thought this might be more obscure, Cloud Cult:

This seems like a live performance. I like the recorded version more. I actually haven't listened to much of Cloud Cult but I think this song is really good.

Everything else of late that's really caught my ear has been more mainstream I think, or pretty old, but what the hell, I'll post it up on the off-chance it's not (I don't have much of an idea of what the kids are listening to these days):

Rainer Maria:

Just finding this topic....

This isn't about me, but I just introduced a neighbor to Faces (i.e. Rod Stewart when he -- believe it -- rocked hard). This guy is a huge Stones fan, and we were talking about Ronnie Wood and I mentioned Faces it didn't register. So I asked him if he'd heard of the Faces and he was all wut?

It's hard to believe any fan of 70s rock wouldn't know the Faces, but I accept it as a possibility given the extent of Rod's sellout and decent into non-rocking radioplay. If anyone hasn't heard of Faces and you dig the bluesy rock sound (of say classic Stones), then pick up the Faces albums (only 2 or 3 of them) and Rod Stewart's early solo work (with Faces backing). If you can look past the maudlin bullshit lyrics, there's some really good, fun rock in there. Some really pretty stuff, too.

Carnivore. It's funny because I have been a huge Type O Negative fan for about 5 or 6 years now, and I never even knew that Peter Steele had done anything before TON. In some ways, I actually like Carnivore better than Type O. Same dark humor in the songs, just portrayed much more aggressively than it is in Type O.

Turbonegro.. so many great, killer rock songs.. had heard of them through Jackass/Bam but heard some shit on CKY radio on pandora.. been hooked since.

Cowboy Mouth
Red Peters
Larry Pierce
Within The Ruins
36 Crazyfists
NRBQ
Better Than Ezra
One Morning Left
Rathbone
The Human Abstract
Corey Stevens

Eyedea

I just stumbled upon this guy a few days ago. He died about six months ago. I'm becoming a really big fan.

Apparently one of the best battle rappers of all time is a white kid from Minnesota.

Some people have described this as what it would be like if Nirvana was hip hop.
For me, it's Arcade Fire(indie rock).
Was basically skimming this thread to see when they would be mentioned. haha. I'm going to their show in Dallas tomorrow night, so pumped.

Tegan & Sara - Saw a random video on youtube one day of "Hell" and I instantly fell in love.

An Horse - Itunes has their new single out for free so I decided to give it a try and was blown away. Then I found out that they've been around a while.

Black Pacific and Band of Skulls are two other bands I've recently come across and fallen for. Satellite radio has some great stuff that I've never heard.

I should go ahead and toss Portishead and Ladytron in there.

I saw Tegan and Sara about two years ago and An Horse opened for them. I ended up liking An Horse better!

Dry Kill Logic, The Tossers, and The Agony Scene. All of those I recently encountered and wish I would have seen them or heard about them sooner.

I complete forgot how good The Smashing Pumpkins were.

Also Blood Orange, Junior Senior, and Lemon Jelly.

Rise Against
J. Roddy Walston & the Business
Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears

Volbeat which a friend told me about but I never listened to them till I heard them on the radio and have loved them ever since.

Chaotica I heard a song by them in an AMV and just thought they sounded really good.

Can I just say Firewater to get some of you to go check out their albums "The Ponzi Scheme" and "Get Off the Cross, We Need Wood for the Fire"? Great music, especially for drinking and playing cards (or other games). Those albums are gold.

For serious, though... I didn't start listening to Muse until I saw them live two years ago, and I felt stupid for waiting that long. Now it's passe' to listen to them, but they're still a fantastic live band.

Started listening to them a few years ago and haven't had a complaint since. Such a great band that goes unnoticed here in the States. Singer is a cross between James Hetfield from Metallica, Elvis, and Johnny Cash. The music sounds like it can take from a bit of everything as well. One of my favs:

Also, to anyone who was a System of a Down fan, I would check out Scars on Broadway. The guitarist and drummer went out to form this band and I like it much more than Serj's solo albums. So far I think they only have one album out with another coming out by the end of this year, but it sounds more like SOAD than Serj's stuff did in my opinion.

I'm a fan of several of Wino's bands: Obsessed, Spirit Caravan, Hidden Hand but I never gave Saint Vitus a chance until recently. The new album has been playing a lot in my mp3 player.

Also a space rock band called Ufomammut. I love their new album.
