That's awesome. Are there any bets on $20 trillion before 2012? 2016? 2020?
I put the chances at 100% by 2020. By 2016? 50/50 ;)

Wimp. 2012? I'm saying $24 trillion.

Of course, that is after the Fed decides to buy $300 billion of its own bonds and triggers massive inflation.

I think $25 trillion sounds a whole lot nicer than $24 trillion, don't you?

How long is it before we adopt Zimbowe's pricing scheme for eggs and bread? I have 2 trillion in fresh bills that I got from the bank for today's ration of money.

I don't see what the big deal is. All this talk of balancing budgets and surpluses is draconian. Our current regime has it correct: deficets don't matter. Saving is what got us into this mess in the first place. If anything, the federal government needs to spend trillions more.

and who thinks that number would be any lower with anyone else in office? get real

were the past 8 years different, perhaps. but allusions to obama's role? gtfo

Nope.

However, Obama is calling the shots now. The Fed wants to buy $300 billion in US bonds. Guess what? The dollar had significant drops against the pound, euro, yen and gold.

That $24 trillion in 2012 might only be worth $13 trillion in 2008 dollars.

It's much easier to pay off trillions in debt with cheap dollars than with a strong dollar. Devaluation is natural for the government. It's good for you if you have tons of debt..not so good if you save money.

Damnit people, Jesus was known for WALKING ON WATER, not balancing the books.

Seriously though, you'd have to be a real idiot to expect everything to magically fix itself overnight. 8 Years of "Budget, What Budget?" is a lot of shit to clean up, and quite frankly, we probably won't see real surplus until we stop pissing away billions on war.

Thank you for putting that in spoiler tags. But to answer your question, the story numbed my brain and the only thing I remember is
"SHADOW IS KEWL"

We won't EVER see a surplus under this president and this Congress. Never ever. Not a chance. Remember, the "stimulus" bill wasted more money than we spent on Iraq and Afghanistan COMBINED. Oh, and even the guy overseeing that massive $787 billion says that fraud is inevitable:

Well...the way things are going right now, that policy's been extended to 12 years.

You are assuming that the attitude about the budget and the war are any different now.

Actions speak louder than words.
