I really used to like the fast paced arcade feel of NBA Jam as well as the over the top jams. Are there any Basketball games like this for the current gen? I tried NBA Street 3 but it seemed a little slow in terms of speed. I didn't play it for that long though. I know midway now makes nba ballers...I don't know if its like Jam at all though. Looking for some insight.

That's only on the Dreamcast right? Anything for the PS2 or Cube?

that's what I was thinking when I saw this thread. Love that game.

they did come out with an nba jam but I don't know if its any good.

Street is average to poor, and the new NBA Jam games are not made by the original guys and therefore suck. Haven't yet tried NBA Ballers, but it's made by the same guys who made NBA Jam.

I couldn't more highly recommend my favorite game of all time, NBA Hangtime, for N64. It's the true sequel to NBA Jam and just an unbelievably good game.

NBA Showtime was good but the one thing I hated about it was fouls in the game. It's an arcade basketball game, the fouls have no place in the game IMO.

street 1 owned me. i had a broken ankle, that summer, thats all i did. street 2 was rad, but not as original and i kinda lost interest.

Street 1 is the king. But if you're looking for something really similar to NBA Jam, go for NBA Hangtime on the N64. Both are really good, fast-paced basketball games.

Trust me on this. You won't be disappointed.

Showtime on the DC is one of my favorite games of all time for ANY system. It kills every other arcadey basketball game out there (Jam, Street, whatever). One of the best party games ever, as well. It's basically Hangtime (which was also good) on steroids. Has some hilarious create-a-player stuff in there.

If you don't have a DC, the N64 version is passable, but it's practically worth buying a DC for JUST for that game if you're into the Jam-style stuff.

One word of advice: stay away from any games bearing the "NBA Jam" moniker that were made over the last 5 years. Same name, but a much worse effort.

It's too bad, after Showtime they really fucked it up by making it 3 on 3 (NBA Hoopz). That game has the distinction of being my quickest turnaround...bought it on the release date, put it on ebay that night. 3 on 3 ruined what was so good about Showtime.

Who gives a fuck that Showtime was for a last gen system. I got it for PSX for like $1.30 (a benefit of it being older) and I have to say that its great!

It's WAY better than NBA Jam Extreme and its ultra fast paced.

I know of an arcade cabinet around here that has it too, but its FIFTY CENTS PER QUARTER! Bletch...

but its fun....

... and you need a copy....

Have fun.
