I'm shocked that there was no thread on this here or in the PS2 forum. It may not be as big as Madden, but I know that a ton of people are extremely hyped for NCAA Football '06's release.

I was considering buying this game even though I still have unplayed games and very little money, but I'm not so sure that it'd be worth the full $50.

I already own NCAA 2004 for GameCube. I loved that game. I got NCAA 2005 with my Xbox but I've maybe played 3-4 games on it since November due to owning the excellent NFL 2K5.

I decided to try playing NCAA 2005 today and I couldn't get into it. It was difficult and frustrating. Maybe I just haven't given it enough time, though. I'm impatient right now.

I have a few questions:

1. Is this game, in your opinion, worth $50 for someone in my situation? The game won't drop in price until close to the time NCAA 2007 is released, so if I get it, I may as well get it now and enjoy the huge Xbox Live community. There must be improvements in the overall and offline gameplay, though.

2. Speaking of online, will NCAA 2005 still be playable on Xbox Live?

3. Gamespot's review said something along the lines of "This game's controls and feel will bring back warm memories of NCAA 2004 for series verterans." Is it true that the game is as fun as (or moreso than) NCAA 2004?

In addition, please post your thoughts and opinions on the game, your RFTH/Dynasty stats or plans, or anything of the sort.

Matt what are you talking about? 06 will be like twenty bucks in like three months because of all the trade in deals that will be in place with this for Madden 06. So, if you are patient you will be able to get this at a real cheap price.

I remember getting NCAA 2005 for free after trading in a few crap games (that cost me a total of about $8) when it came out. It was OK, but I didn't really get into it. It just reminded me a lot of the lackluster Madden. Also, I thought that when the quarterback had the ball, he had way too much time to throw a pass. Real football isn't like that.

This new game seems to be an improvement. There is supposed to be a deeper career mode, where you have to take a player from high school to college. I just hope that the game isn't like Madden, with few to no improvements each year. Just the same game with a few updates. But then again EA is the only game in town, so... :(

I'll give this a rent and see. As of right now, I wouldn't spend $50 on it.

The game is pretty good. The gameplay is very similiar but definetly better. QB scrambling is easier this year. The juke moves are good with the right thumbstick also. Race for the Heisman is a bit over-rated....since it's like a half-assed Dynasty Mode (The computer does the recruiting and everything like that)

It is only 35 bucks through DVD Planet and I think there are similar deals. I'm kinda glad to get back to EA football after all the little problems that brought down ESPN for me. I rented NCAA 05 recently and liked it, any improvements are just a bonus. Pick it up and we can play. :)

No game drops as fast as the NCAA games... '04 was $10 by March.

I say just wait unless you badly need your football fix before Madden.

I just picked it up. I'll try to post something after a couple of games. UltiMatt, definitely look me up if you want to play some time.

I am a life long Madden guy and I'm pretty good, but NCAA 06 is playing alot better than Madden. I dropped 50 on it as I am desperate for a good sports game and I'm not regretting it. Heisman mode is the best innovation EVER for a sports game. The only gripe I can come up with is that you can complete deep passes a little too easily at times...but I am playing on the mode below All American though. Also, the controls take some getting used to especially on D......ESPN 2K5 players will like "Truck Stick" on offense.....it plays similar.

i just picked it up and have played a few games and am pretty down on it so far, it is very difficult to play this after playing a game as visually stunning as nfl 2k5

Yeah, don't let the it'll be ten bucks by March talk stop you from getting it. Hell, most games will be ten bucks or close by then except for major titles. Also, now is the peak season for playing other people, a major point in making the game worthwhile. I might not pay fifty, but like I said do what I did and get it for about 35 and you can always trade towards Madden and won't be out anything.

Also, I don't wanna turn this into a rant about EA vs. 2k5 games, as I liked 2k5, but don't let visuals stop you either. I played last years game and didn't think it was much worse and now this year will look even better.

It depends on if you really want more of a simulation type of game. 2k5 to me was a better game than Madden or NCAA in many ways, but as far as representing football it was a turd. I skipped the EA games last year and tried to admit it wasn't, but its true.

I picked it up yesterday and played for a little while.

The RFTH aspect is neat, especially if you don't like recruiting. I do like that if you don't get drafted after your four years in college, you can take over as coach. I don't know how deep the stats will go (will coach and player stats be presented together?).

I would love to play this game online, I've just never had a good experience playing football online. Too many cheaters.

I played a game last night on Varsity difficulty. I would definitely recommend that anyone playing at least bump it up one notch. The game has a more deliberate feel than previous years (like Madden last year) and I think the biggest innovation is the fact the A button is used for speed burst with or without the ball (like ESPN/2k has been doing for years and years). I didn't see that mentioned here, but it is a pretty big change for EA to finally make.

Also, the quarterback no longer has to pull down pass icons to run. Instead you just press A, out run the defensive player's, let go of A and press the receivers icon to throw. It really makes the offensive a little too powerful in my opinion, but it will make for some entertaining football. Definitely my favorite college game yet.

Someone look me up tonight if you want to play.

I haven't looked at the live features of this yet, but if there is a way to do a league of some type count me in.

I think I'm gonna pick this up later if anyone wants to play. I canceled my DVD Planet order and I have some birthday coupon at Sam Goody I think I'm gonna use one it. Will make it like 43 or something.

Does this game not support voice chat? I haven't played NCAA 2005 or Tiger Woods 2005 online, and I have only played MVP 2005 online once, so I'm not sure what EA's deal is. I know their online setup is vastly inferior to 2K's. But everyone that I see playing NCAA '06 on my friends list has their headsets off, so what's the deal? If we can't chat during the game, that is a HUGE flaw as far as I'm concerned.

NCAA '06 does support voice chat, but most people don't feel like talking. Especially when the guy on the other side is an a-hole. So they don't even bother activating their mics.

On a different note I want to know if people are having trouble being dropped constantly even though their connections are perfect. I'm having a lot of trouble with this. I've been dropped at least 6-7 times.

Nope no problems with disconnects or voice here. Well, I did have a disconnect when playing Silencer, but he said he had problems on other games earlier.

Also, the online setup for NCAA isn't really too bad. It doesn't have leagues like the ESPN games, but the menu is pretty much the same. I'd say a little bit better with the lobbies and what not. I wish you could talk in the lobbies and not just type though.

whats with the injurys? Twice i popped this game in from blockbuster and became QB. First time the first game I get nailed on the 4th hike and game goes injure out for 2 weeks. Next time i get ko for season.. after that my little guy dropped out of college and went back to playing video football games

That sounds more like just a freak occurance. I usually don't have too many injuries and I'm on my third season. Though annoyingly my running back got knocked out a few games each of the first two years when I simulated games. I think I've had three injuries so far in my third year and I'm pretty far. One LB got knocked out for 10 games early and another is out now for a few games. I have a receiver out, but that may be for academics.

One questions....lets say we EXPORT draft classes to Madden 06. I already exported one....if I export another will it overwrite my one that's already there or will it create a seperate save? I'm sure I'll play a couple seasons of Madden so it will be nice to have multiple draft classes ready.
It shouldn't if you rename them accordingly so you know which year is which.
How do you rename? From the XBOX HD or elsewhere? I'm about half way through my second season already....

This is from my experience with the PS2 version, but when you'd save it after exporting it, it would let you rename it then, I believe. That or look at when you saved them, as they should be in order that way as well.

I am moving this statement from another thread to this one.

It just seems more appropriate here.

Okay, a little update on my RFTH career.

I finished my freshman year with 2,538 rushing yards and 37 touchdowns. I also had 164 yards receiving. (All before the bowl game)

Reggie Bush finished the season with 1,517 rushing yards, 337 yards receiving and 24 total touchdowns. (All before the bowl game)

Who do you think won the Heisman? You guessed it, Reggie Bush. Freshman bias? I think so.

As it turned out, I ended up playing against USC in the Rose Bowl. I finished that game with 356 rushing yards and 6 touchdowns, both records. Reggie Bush had a meager 115 total yards and 1 score. Last minute heroics.

We'll see if my luck doesn't turn around during my Sophomore year.

I'm interested to hear what everyone else has gone through.

Yeah the game doesn't like giving the Heisman to young guys. My player had crazy stats and wasn't really considered until he was a junior. And when I was a junior and led in everything even then it was hard to win. I went undefeated and he got the Heisman, but when I kept resimulating to get a better bowl standing my team would lose most of the time and that would cause another guy to win the Heisman.

Does NCAA have it this year where you can get the names for the players on Live other than looking at those crappy numbers?

The only way to get names is do use ACTION REPLAY for XBOX. You cannot download names from LIVE, since they CANNOT use actualy names. There are a bunch of places to donwload the rosters online though, that's what I did....used my ACtion Replay....worked GREAT.

Off topic somewhat, but I am a man who appreciates a nice, round ass... But that one in Dez's sig is disproportionately and disgustingly huge. I think that ass has an account with BALCO.
Just curious but what is the highest Greatest Games score you have gotten. I can't seem to get anything above 1300.
576 is the highest I have gotten on '06. It was a come-from-behind, overtime victory against Iowa State.

I haven't been involved in too many games that were that close.

Yeah I had to turn the difficulty up, and mess with the sliders but most of my "Greatest Games" are against other users. Every now and then the computer shows up.

I've turned the difficulty up, but I always seem to pull away. I'm not playing with a great team either. (OK State)

What sliders do you adjust to level the playing field?

It depends on how you play, but what has worked for me (on All-American) is turning the computers pass blocking up to about 70, their catch to about 70, and turning my run blocking down to about 40-45 try those and you might see a more level playing field.

Yeah, the All-American seems a bit easy....I may bump it to Heisman mode to see how hard it is. I might start another Dynasty also.

I was playing the last game of the season in Race for the Heisman mode last night against Michigan. I was Ohio state. Mich. won the coin toss and decided they wanted the ball first. I kicked the ball off, and the returner dropped the ball. He kicked it for a few yards while trying to recover it, and his fellow team mates even missed picking it up. Then my team got to the ball, and thats when all hell broke loose.

I ended up comming up with the ball on the 10 yard line. It was awesome.

I also won the Heisman with my RB on my freshman year. I had around 38-40 total TDs and 1900 some rushing yards. I won by about 1k votes. I got 1900 something and next best was 900 something.
