NCAA Football '08 - OUT NOW!! Bring it on!!

Rofl...Yea psxsports.com rosters will still work because he kept his console offline and like i said they only locked certain 360 owners saves. Which is dumb but thats MS choice to be pruins

I played it once before heading to work. It runs so much smoother than last years version. Theres a huge difference, It seems like its going to be a very good game.

fucking USC and Michigan. As a Notre Dame fan/student I am considering boycotting the demo. Should I give in, I will go with Michigan as they are the lesser of two very dark evils.
I'm in and call Notre Dame. Walking by the stadium today on the way to work out really got the itch going.
Wow- I didn't think anyone else from South Bend was on here. Where do you work?

I just got done playing my first game on the demo. I really like the polish this seems to have, especially over last years game. The graphics are cleaner overall and the framerate appears to be rock-solid so far. I like the new look the the menu, kind of has a 2K series feel to it. The animations appear to be the biggest improvement over last year, the gang tackling looks real nice. I like the controls this year over last year. You seem to have a lot more audible options than before, especially on defense. The only thing that is a little annoying is the slight pause after selecting a play, but this is very minor and might get fixed anyways. Right now there are way too many turnovers by default but this will be adjustable with the sliders. I was almost 100% going to buy this before the demo but now its a definite must buy. The addition of Campus Legend this year has officially sealed the deal.

So silky smooth. And the animations, I'm amazed to say, are superb. There seems to be some contextual ones in there when you're in a pile that I didn't notice in prior years. I do wish they'd fill out the screen more with the play selection. All that widescreen real estate and it's wasted on pretty bland/repeating stadium shots.

I'm a Notre Dame junior.. Also went to Penn High School.

Were you turning it over or the computer? Right away you can tell that the AI of the secondary is a lot better. But the difficulty is set to Varsity so you should be able to throw all over them. I torched the computer. They were turning it over more than me but I did not notice a lot of fumbles or anything out of the ordinary turnover wise.

Definitely impressed with the improvements over last year's version. The animation is excellent and finally seeing stuff like gang tackles and your player make movements so he doesn't get stuck on the offensive line is nice. Nice that it doesn't have the haze problem that Madden had last year (did NCAA have that last year too?).

I'd think about picking this up, but I'm not sure if it would get played once Madden comes out. If I could get it for like $45 or so I'd probably get it.

Within 2 seconds of playing the demo, I could tell the game was better than last year. Player control so smooth, and for the first time in a 360 sports game, I went "whoa" when I saw some close up graphics. As for the gameplay, it feels like NCAA, but I'm not gonna spend too much time playing it, since the game always needs a lot of slider tweaking out of the box. I was constantly getting sacked by the USC defense, because the Michigan O line forgot how to pass block, but I'm sure that can be fixed with sliders.

I think I fumbled once in my game. The computer threw 2 interceptions and lost about 2 fumbles in the game. That is a lot of turnovers in a game with 2 minute quarters. But like I said earlier, adjusting the gameplay sliders should fix that.

I think they were trying to incorporate the photography-mode within actual gameplay, but I hope it can be turned off in the options. The angles aren't very good. The replays, though, are a nice improvement. They'll actually follow the player from the snap all the way through to completion of the play instead of the generic field view or QB camera lock.

Yeah that is a lot but I haven't experienced a lot of turnovers and I played about 10 games already. Sliders will fix the picks but usually there are no sliders for fumbles which were a little bit of a problem last year. But like I said maybe that was a one game thing because I haven't had that much of a problem with it.

question for the madden/ncaa pros. I know the obvious differences in the games, but what are the improvements to ncaa 08 and madden 08 this year? I had ncaa 07 and liked it and now trying to decide on which game to get this year.

I'm a big vanderbilt fan and the fact that they did Dudley Stadium right this year instead of a generic woos me.

The animations and graphics are so fucking smooth!! I'm loving it so far, can't wait till next Tuesday!! But I'm sad "lead blocking" didn't make it into the game from Madden, I thought that feature was neat and useful, especially for the running game.

I thought I remember them saying something about lead blocking in one of the videos up on the marketplace.

I think it was the one that talked about the different features.

Well I thought AP 2k8 was gonna be my favorite football game this year but wow EA brought it with this demo. So far I think it's the best football game in a long time. I've even seen a sprained wrist after a big hit. I definitely like the tackling and smoothness. Anyone find the trick plays yet?

Played one game so far and loved it! Had a lot of turnovers overall on both sides, but won 24-0 with USC, but as much as I loved 07, I have to admit this is much improved. My only slight gripe so far is in the collision detections in the animations. It seems that players are walking through each other way too much. Something, that I think will likely be fixed in the final version though. I'm definitely looking forward to this one!
Didn't seem as fun as 07 on Xbox. May try it again and see.
Probably didn't help that it was only 2 minutes, on Varsity, with 2 teams you probably don't like. That's why I hardly ever play sports game demos, the limited options and teams will make me hate the game without giving it a chance.

They made the controls such as juke mapped to the stick rather than the triggers. Lead blocker control. All the features that were in the xbox and ps2 versions last year. Gang tackling

Well, I've only ever dabbled in console football games before (played some NCAA '04 on the Gamecube for a few weeks way back). I got beat 17-0 as Michigan . I think I got, like, one first down. Obviously the passing is all timing based. My worst play was an interception run in for a touchdown. On defense I had no idea what I was doing, though I think I actually made one tackle myself. I just guessed at the controls (the control display when loading was nice but I promptly forgot them all when I played).

I had NCAA 07 in my posession from the Gamerush clearance but sold it when I found out Cal was one of the teams without an authentic stadium. Since I'd be playing half my games there that was a big turnoff. I'm assuming they have it this year. I'll wait for this on the cheap once again, but I'm definitely getting it. I tend to stay away from most of these sports games, but I had fun with NCAA '04 back when (fortunately I traded that in when it still fetched something but I still have a sealed NCAA '05 for the GC from when it was $5 at Best Buy - I guess that just gets put in a time capsule or something).

There is "lead blocking" but it's not like Madden where you take control of the blocker. You select a blocker and hit LB and that's your designated lead blocker.

Anyways, anyone able to snag a copy early? I just tried calling a local independent game store but they don't have any in yet, they said most likely Monday. I don't mind Monday since I'll be able to play it a day early, but I want it now!!
On defense I had no idea what I was doing, though I think I actually made one tackle myself.
Thats funny... Alot of the guys I play Madden against just let the computer make all the tackles, they dont even try.

I can see why they would do that. One play I was controlling one of the linebackers and blitzed when I was supposed to cover the middle - CPU gets a 20+ yard gain. I'm sure the computer would have covered that spot ;). But it was definitely more fun when I actually did make a tackle.

I took USC and won 10-7 in OT (scored on my first play from scrimmage, 80 yd pass to my RB)

The Game Changing Performance was Michigan missing their field goal attempt in OT

I was in the Missouri City, TX Gamestop today and they had a sign on the front door that said NCAA 08 would be available at 2:00 PM this Saturday. Those of you wanting to pick it up early may want to check your local Gamestops.....

Apparently FK already has the game and is working on the rosters! This is great...although, I can wait, since my 360 won't be back until 4-6 weeks possibly. At least I will have the game, since I pre-ordered it at GameRush (assuming they get it).

So much for Midnight Monday events?
So much for Midnight Monday events?
Well, the EB which is probably no more than a few hundred yards from this GS had a sign up for a release event on the 17th, so there will probably be some of those going on. Also, that GS had the full version of the game playing on their 360. Unfortunately, the controllers weren't working, so I didn't get a chance to take it for a test drive.

That would be excellent if mine had it, because I won't be able to make the Midnight launch.

Of course, I won't be playing it until Monday or Tuesday anyways, so it probably doesn't matter.

I really hope they allow for some different controller setups. Having spent years playing NCAA on PS2 im still uncomfortable with the switch player being in the "B" button position

:( small gripe - but still.

I had fun with the demo. I rented NCAA 07 from Gamez N Flix a few weeks back and 08 is looking like a buy for me. Going from 30 to 60 framerates really helped the action. My only gripe is the controls, but that shouldn't be an issue after playing it some.

Thats old.....OK the deal with that is if your 360 wasnt updated your fine(the roster makers) and not everyones roster sharing abilities were killed. Only people like 360gamesaves....People still make rosters and i have used rosters for mlb 2k7. Psxsports.com's roster makers 360 isnt updated so he should be fine

I definitely agree. When they change the controls that have been standard for years and years, it totally messes up my game.

I had that problem when I first switched over to the 360 games but tell you the truth after a few games it becomes second nature. So it's not really a big deal.

Has anyone confirmed this?

This only affects EA sports titles, so bringing up MLB 2k7 isn't really a good example. I'm sure roster makers have already found a work-around or some way to beat the system though. You are right about the 360 Gamesaves and other sites hosting rosters. Roster makers are not supposed to publically distribute them or something like that. EA's decision to do this, making saves attached to your gamertag, is pretty stupid IMO. Did they say they were doing this to prevent "cheating," not altering the gameplay, but in getting achievements? I could care less about that. Fans of sport games know that roster updates and changes are crucial and it isn't always supported greatly by companies such as EA. Thank goodness 2K doesn't have this policy.
