Necessary to camp out for the wii?
The thing is, many people are probably already adjusting their holiday strategy to eschew the PS3 and get the Wii instead.
I've never bought this argument. The systems are too different. Someone wanting a PS3 and Resistance at launch aren't going to pick up a "kiddy" Wii when they get shut out. They'll be much more likely to turn to the 360 and Gears of War.

Similarly, I'm interested in the Wii, and have no interest in the 360 or PS3.

MS and Sony are after the same market, Nintendo really isn't after that demographic.

I'm going in at 9am to 10am, to see the lines(most stores open at 10). Future Shop put out a ad to say they'd be getting 15-60 Wii's, and the EB in my area said that they'll have more Wii's then people Pre-ordered for so i might get one there(i got Zelda P-Oed their). So we will see. No big loss if i don't get one
I'm going to Circuit City at 4AM, to check the lines, if they're not bad, I'll come back at 6. I want to use that $40 off coupon.
$40 coupon?

Please elaborate...

I'm going to mine around 7PM. 29 units there. Hoping for the best... ;)
My Wal-Mart of choice said they had around 25. I'll be getting there around 10pm.
My current plan is to wake up on Saturday, eat breakfast, prepare my supplies, and drive 15 minutes to a TRU that is doing a midnight launch. If anyone is lined up at that point (around 10 or 11 AM), I'll hop in line. Otherwise I'll keep checking back every two hours and whenever a line has formed, that's when I'll start camping. I've never camped for a console before, and I've got nothing going on that day anyway. My wife is being very understanding about all of this.

my cc is getting 10 ps3's (there were already 10 people camping out tuesday night)
and supposively about 25 wii's, but we're around a bb, tru, and a gamestop so i'm hoping to get one from one of those stores.
Is it necessary? Still possible to get one on sunday without camping? (excluding midnight release for those smart asses out there :D )
Necessary? Is it necessary for me to drink my own urine?

No, but I do it anyway because it's sterile and I like the taste.

It's just that $40 off $199 CC coupon that people get from the USPS for a change of address... a scan was posted in the deals forum, but it's YMMV since the resolution isn't that great and the barcode doesn't work, forcing the cashier to manually punch in the number...

Anyway, I'll probably hit Walmart on Saturday night. A couple friends will be at Walmarts in other parts of town, and we'll be communicating regularly. Then, I'll be doing TRU on Sunday morning.

I'd prefer to get one from TRU because that's where my stack-o-gift-cards is from, but Walmart at midnight is my safety just to make sure I get one. I'll either return the one I get from Walmart if TRU comes through for me or sell it to a friend.

Well, no one said it would be even a majority of those shut out of a PS3, or even a quarter of them. But there will be some, be it more 'open-minded' gamers, parents who are just trying their best, or eBayers who want to at least make something of these consoles. Which is why I will forever hate them. The Wii has to be the 'Plan B' of many. To dismiss this based solely on the obvious contrasts of the two consoles is missing the point, I think. Some people want something from this weekend. It's just about getting caught up in the zeitgeist of the moment.

Anyway, kids, just get there early. Do your research. Know your options. Figure out the 'safe bet' time and add two hours to it. And if that means you get there ridiculously early and have to go lounge at Steak 'n' Shake, so be it.

I feel better about getting one on Sunday. My local target had maybe 20 people camped out side for the PS3. And they are only getting 8 of those. The word on the net is my Target is getting 60 wiis so I have a really good feeling that if I show up a few hours before they open I can get a wii.

The Plan:

Friday night
Sell off Nintendo DS, Gamecube, and any games that I could part with and make up most if not all of the cash.

Saturday morning
Hit up the three Walmarts in my area and check what they will do. Vouchers are most desired. If I must wait then it will be done closer to noon. Grab some food from the grocery store, empty the bladder at home and just chill out with a thick book and conversation.
