Well, I'm getting a laptop for a special occasion. I don't think money will be a problem, but the cheaper the better.(I guess around 1000$, give or take a few hundered.)
My main needs are :
Gaming GPU(9800m gt or higher preferred)
Portablity(So iI would think that would mean somewhere between 15-17in screens)

Thats pretty much it...
I found this one:

Everything is fine but the GPU is slightly underpowered and there seems to be alot of bickering about the keyboard placement(Which I think is imperative, but not enough to match specs). This has a 9800m gs and its only 6lb, so it fits my mold fine.I'll go with this if no one suggests anything better. Lets hope CAG memebers are tech savy as much as they are deal savy. I've never asked a question on the pc board here, so nice to meet you.:D

That would seem to fit your needs the best. If not this dell wouldn't be awful either:

Though that Dell is not portable by any means.:)[/QUOTE]
o_O holy dang both are 9lb and up -_-. I have a 8 lb laptop and thats definatley not portable. I need it for school also(Need it at school everyday and has to fit in a backpack).Oh and I have a thing against Dell. They're way to high price for what they're offering >_>.
So i guess i need a 15-15.4 in laptop.

you bump your thread after just 40 minutes?

going for gaming + portability is a bad choice. do one or the other. get a second machine if both are necessary (e.g. desktop + laptop or laptop + netbook). otherwise you'll end up making huge sacrifices on both gaming capability and portability. the good gaming laptops are heavy, the good mobile laptops don't game well, the mid-ground machines generally suck.

Haha, I found a cousin of the one I posted.
7llb, beast graphics card, and all the good(and bad) of the gt627.
I might have to go with this one >_>. I mean, this is middle ground, right? If this sucks, I have to say I like suckish laptops.:D
But please, offer your suggestions!

7.35 lbs and 17" isn't very portable, i'd say that's squarely on the gaming end and not the portable end at all, but if you want go for it.. i know a guy who brings a 17" laptop to school everyday. though he doesn't bring his backpack everywhere, for most walking around campus he leaves it in a locker in the mechanical engineering building because it's so heavy and bulky.

i'd go macbook that's me. for you, sounds like the best option would be netbook for school (~$250) + desktop for gaming (~$600), if you've got space for a desktop.

Go for the gateway FX series. They run about $700-$750 on sale with a 9800M GTX or something of that matter. They are stacked models.

Check threads on slickdeals. They have it on there once a week or so. You just gotta catch it.

What he said. Before you get any gaming laptop, you really need to ask yourself how much gaming-on-the-go are you really going to do. Both machines you linked cost ~ 1300 bucks. For that much, you could spend 500-800 on a fairly awesome desktop, and

You could always set up a server if you don't like transferring files. You could get something like the MSI Wind and I'm sure there are tutorials out there. Or just get a large USB flash drive and put it on your car keys so you always have it.

I guess it'd help if we knew what he was going to school for. I always used my college's lab computers when I had to and my flash drives personally (always carried a backup of everything in my MP3 player incase the files on my keys were corrupted), but I was in business so the worst I ever had was some decently sized access databases or excel files, and maybe my VB stuff.

There was a gateway on sale for about 400 bucks on clearance at BB last year with a nice graphics card which is what brought me to CAG. I wish I would have jumped on that deal.
