Need a laptop

I need a laptop for general home use, but I am extremely unfamiliar with laptops. I am looking into refurb units to cut down on cost but I do not know which computer/brand would be best for me. It would be great if I was able to stay under $600, but I don't know if that is possible. I looked into netbooks but they are a little too small for my tastes.

Primary uses-
Web browsing
Very, very light gaming
Word processing

I probably sound like a grandpa, talking about my computer preferences

When you say "light gaming" what games do you have in mind?

CS:S low settings. I may not even play any games, but if i did, that is all i would play.
