Ok ok..so i'm heading off to college in less than two months and I need to get a laptop. I really want a laptop that's capable of playing today's PC games and will still be good for the next few years. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap ass laptop?

I hate to have to tell you thisbut cheap ass and play todays games just don't go together. honestly for that type of price you could almost build a desktop to play todays games and then buy a really cheap ass laptop. Otherwise there's been an Acer laptop with a 2800+ sempron, 256 MB RAM, cd-wr/DVD drive for about $600 I believe. I'll look around though, if I find something good I'll post back here.

Yeah i know gaming isn't cheap, especially on a laptop. I was thinking of looking through the school but I doubt they have any good deals with mail in rebates or anything like that. I think I can spend around $1,500 max, but the lower the better. I'm just looking for the best overall laptop for the right price so i can get my money's worth

If you're dorming just go with a desktop. You'll be happy you did if you plan on playing any games.

I went the laptop route my first semester, and wound up using it as a desktop while I missed my desktop. :(

If you can spend $1500 I would

a) build a kickass desktop for about $800-$900

b) spend the rest on a functional (word processing, maybe dvd watching) but light duty laptop.

Sinking a whole bunch into a laptop if your intent is gaming is really foolish. And have you priced laptop memory, harddrives, vid cards, etc vs. their desktop counterparts? Scary stuff.

hmm..well maybe i should just get a cheaper laptop..ok..well..I need to get gaming on my PC..i got a few questions..

1) What's a good graphics card to put on a PC? I've rarely ever played PC games, so I know nothing about what is considered top of the line. I would like to install a graphics card so I can play all the latest PC games.

2) Are there any limitations I may have if i have one of those horizontal PCs instead of a tower? It's the type of desktop that you put the monitor on top of. I had trouble putting a cd drive, so idk if it's easily upgradeable.

3) If i spent around 600 dollars could a get a solid laptop with Wireless Internet Capabilities?
