need a new tv for college

Do you really need something that nice, especially at college? I picked up a 32" Vizio at Walmart for around $400 about 2 years back, and it looks just as nice as any other TV I've seen, especially after I tweaked the display settings.

This. I wish the OP had mentioned something about whether or not they were living off campus or in a dorm. Personally, if I lived off campus I'd splurge and get the nicer TV; for a dorm I'd get something cheaper.

Umm.... yes, especially with the recent stories of people breaking into dorm rooms and stealing their shit.
 
yeah im off campus at an apartment and i have a ps3 and i really want my blurays to look awesome (for date nights with the ladies of course) but im really picky about the picture quality...so how about the tv?
 
I'd go with the Samsung... I heard they were more reliable and I'm pretty sure Samsung uses Sony's panels anyway.

Plus, a bigger screen is nicer.
 
^ My fam has a 47- or 48 inch HDTV that cost like 2g's a year or so back, for the movie room, and I feel it's still too small >_<

that being said, i think the reason it appears small, is because the wall behind it is HUGE, soo... yeah, i think placement of a tv is a big deal.

32" is small ;)

I want a nice 40" or 50" for my room.

The 32" at first seemed big, but now it seems small.

On topic if your getting something college. Go cheap. Who knows what will happen to it in your room... and especially if you have a roommate.

I tried a 27" in my room one time. It was blinding. A 20" is all I need.:applause:

I have to agree. I don't know what it is, my mom bought this nice 20-something or maybe even 30 inch flat screen for our living room, and I can't stand to watch it for longer than 20 minutes at a time.

I still have an "old-fashioned" tv in my room, which I honestly feel looks better than flat screens. It's just...clearer.
