Need a rec on a great mult-player PSN game

I'm the only long-time gamer in my group of friends. However, my buddy just picked up a PS3 mainly for the blu-ray but also for his son who is a gamer.

He is open to playing some stuff with me but is, frankly, overwhelmed by the complexity of MGS4 that came packed in with his PS3. (I am too at times :))

I'd like to recommend a PSN title that may be simple enough for him to get into but also has some sort of multilayer attached to it so we can play head to head or on a team.

I'm thinking of poker b/c he plays in offline tournaments, but I'm pretty sure he can handle more than that too.

Any recommendations from my fellow CAGers on what else I should consider?

You guys should try Calling All Cars. The game is great fun multiplayer. It's very simple and arcadey. It sounds like something right up your friend's alley.

Do you mean Resistance Fall of Man? I think I meant, less expensive, less hard-core games.

Does PAIN have online multiplayer? I thought it was only while all players use the same system.
 
Oh. Pain is only local multiplayer for the moment unfortunately. They have plans to add in online multiplayer which will probably drop with pain amusement park. But Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo and Mortal Kombat 2 are two good online games and it'll only run you 15 dollars for both of them.
