I'm going to need to bring a TV to college this year so it looks as though it's finally time to say goodbye to my 10 year old 27" that doesn't even have S-video. I'm thinking that LCD TVs are my only option at this point since I definitely do not want to lug a giant CRT around. Here's what I'm looking for:

- Size is something between 23"-32"
- Good black levels (I realize that LCD's are not known for their black levels, but I'd prefer something that still performs pretty well.
- Good response time. I'm going to be playing a lot of games (fighting games included) on this and I don't want to deal with the screen becoming blurry every time there's motion.
- Good for anime.
- Would like VGA input, but it's not absolutely essential.
- Must have HDMI and component inputs. Preferably at least 2 component inputs.
- Must be widescreen.
- MUST support 720p and 1080i. 1080p would be good, but I doubt there's any TV's in this size range that even support that. At such a small size, would the benefits of 1080p even be noticable compared to 720p's picture?
- Price is preferebly not much more than $1000.

So are there any models out there that stand out as meeting my criteria? I don't want to limit myself to just Best Buy's and Circuit City's selections so any help with this is appreciated.

Right now, I'm considering the Samsung LN-S2641D more than anything, but my concern is the resolution... is it high enough to display real 720p? Is there anything else I should be considering? Please keep in mind that I'm more concerned with quality than price.

Come on people... help me beautify my setup and replace that ugly ass TV that can be seen in my collection pics.... and help me enjoy the 360's graphics.

Hey, check out any office depots. They carry the Olevia widescreen hdtvs. The ones buy me carry 21, 23, and either 26 or 27(not sure) they are always on sale for about 500 and they are supposed to be really good. Just a thought.

P.S. I have also been looking for an LCD for college however, i don't want to big of one because then it won't fit in the tiny ass dorm room. I just want and HDTV LCD 17-23 inches for under 350. I've seen a couple for that but I'm still looking.

Why the hell are you bringing an expensive TV to college, especially an LCD?

Anything over 20' will get jacked. Especially plasma/HDTV/LCD.

You speak the truth.

To the OP:

Your roommate will probably leave the door unlocked and that's it. Or your dorm will have shitty locks and your TV is gone. It can happen in under 30 seconds. When I lived in the dorm, we swiped a guys couch while he went to pick up pizza from the lobby. We kept in hidden on the floor for a week and he was actively looking for it....it just kept getting moved. One time, we stole a guys door while he went to brush his teeth. You can kiss that TV good bye. Might as well keep the crap TV since it will get beat to shit / have beer spilled on it / knocked around / puked on / etc. This is college, no place for a nice TV.

seriously. Listen to the above poster. Stick with a crap TV at the very minimum until you are out of the dorms and into your own apartment. Even then i would stick with a crap TV. Worry about that when you graduate. SPend the money on "other" forms of entertainment (ie beer).

I think you should get a nice 20 inch TV from Costco or something. That should do you just fine for your first year of college. $ 1000 is WAAY to much for a TV for a dorm. It will either get stolen, or your gonna have alot kids coming to your room just to watch TV which is cool AT FIRST, but gets old FAST.

Lol, I know you were joking, but yeah, that's kinda it. It's definitely not a party school (but we are next to Illinois State so we go there to do our stupid shit.)

Do people lock their bikes or do they just leave them sitting on the sidewalk all weekend and they are still there on monday?

Think about it.

I put in a lot of late nights (playing video games) in the dorms while I lived there last year. 5 times I've had random people open my door in the middle of the night. 4 of them were black and one was a white student so drunk he didn't know where his room was. After the first time it happened I figured I'd leave the door unlocked until I went to bed every day to see how many more times it'd happen.

But that's what locks are for. I'm still happy with my ($95) 20" Wal-Mart flat screen tv though I can't help you on the tv.

It's a small campus so people really don't use bikes. Nobody gets shit stolen from their cars or anything though.

That's right. I was wondering if anyone would figure it out.
